We ordered food from here tonight. First of all, it took a little under 2 hours, we called multiple times and we were transferred to multiple to people who had 0 answers. When the food did arrive, it was terrible. I’d safely call this the worst Chinese food in the area.

As far as cheap«Chinese» food goes, this shop is excellent. For under $ 10, I had a filling dinner and enough leftover for another meal. The Lo Mein was fresh and contained a substantial amount of vegetables and chicken. The soup was flavorful. The location is convenient, but definitely order your food to go. The atmosphere is uncomfortable and the storefront is not attractive. They also deliver. But trust the good reviews, and give it a try!

I’ve tried a lot of different chinese places and this is by far my favorite! They have the best prices, best food and nice staff! I don’t even order Chinese from any place else because nothing compares!

Beyond disappointed. We ordered a beef dish, a tofu dish, and a hot and sour soup. I should have known better about the tofu because these kinda delivery spots just don’t know how to make them that well. The hot and sour soup though… how can you mess that up? Out of everything we ordered and the $ 25 we somehow ended up spitting out for this, I could only consume the wontons. Oh and the white rice. Everything else was just plain bad. Unflavored, unfresh, watery… everything. I get that it’s legit under $ 5 but haayyy Subway can make it fresh for $ 5!

Consistent, affordable Chinese food. Never a problem with delivery. Large menu with lots of options. It’s my go to spot.

Some of the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Dirty inside, chicken didn’t taste like chicken. I ended up throwing it out because I wasn’t sure of what I was eating. Never again! Wish I could give it no stars.

I”ve been ordering from here a couple years now. the food is great at a great price. I love how it’s not saturated with salt and sauce unless i guess you want it heavy on that. but i think their sesame chicken is awesome as well as General P chicken. both have a very slight crispiness to it. and again not lots of thick gooey sauce. the egg rolls are again terrific. crispy full and full with a great taste not just bland. The delivery is pretty quick and friendly. lunch you can get a great combo for a great price.

Ordered two entrees that should have come with rice. Only received one miniature container of rice instead of two. Food just tasted like soy sauce. Gross. Will not order again.

This is my go to Chinese place for many many years. It’s not much to look at for eat in but the food is consistent and well priced. The delivery is awesome because it’s alway on time and the kid that has worked the phone for like a million years is alway professional and very polite. I have never had a bad thing to say.

Y’know, I think they shorted us on purpose! My friends and I went here when our go-to place(new south wok) was closed. A little under the influence, we might have been a bit obnoxious while we ordered. Although the food was pretty good(chicken/pork lo mein), they gave us significantly less than we had hoped. I hate you. 2⁄5 — CK

Pretty crappy chinese food. I ordered the generals chicken and the sauce had a texture like jello and glue mixed… Not good

No. 1 Chinese Restaurant is my go-to for Chinese food if I’m on South Street or its surrounds. The place itself is usually pretty quiet, but I’ve done both eat-in and take out and I have been satisfied each time. I usually get a pizza roll and egg drop soup every time, even if I just need a little something to hold me over, but if I’m sitting in for a meal, I usually settle on the sesame chicken. Would definitely consider other options on the menu next time I stop in!

Excellent quick service, great prices, and veggies that are still pretty crunchy upon arrival which means they aren’t overlooked and soaked thru with oil. Everything I’ve ordered so far has been very tasty, especially Hunan Shrimp and steamed veg dumplings. Highly recommend this place as your go-to Chinese delivery!

I have only ordered delivery from No. 1 but all three experiences have been good. The price is reasonable as chinese delivery should be, delivery was pretty quick and the food was good. This palce was recommended to me so I’m glad to pay it forward and recommend it to you.

This is our go-to cheap Chinese delivery spot. We’ve done Golden Empresss, South Garden, Rich City, etc but none of them serve consistently good, fresh food. I had a craving last night after hitting the gym so we ordered up a feast of steamed pork dumplings, Singapore Noodles(extra spicy), General Tso Combo(extra spicy), and steamed chicken with broccoli for a healthy lunch the next day. The delivery only took 20 minutes and the total was $ 29. We were given the option of free pork fried rice, two soda, or egg rolls. Opted for the fried rice and damn, that was awesome pork fried rice. Lots of pork, perfect seasoning, it was delish. The General Tso wasn’t really extra spicy, but it was good– the singapore noodle here are the best though. Lots of different meats, egg, veggie bits, plenty of curry, perfect al dente rice noodles, they don’t skimp on anything. It still could have been spicier, but it was darn good. The dumplings, however, were downright terrible. Very doughy– seemed like homemade but it just wasn’t successful. A word on their use of garlic– if you don’t love garlic, don’t order anything with sauce. They put a good amount of fresh garlic into their sauces and it’s quite pungent. I don’t mind it but some might. P. s. Their fortune cookies are never stale, and they taste like vanilla bean. It’s a little thing, but it means a lot to me.

I’ve passed by this spot so many times and never tried it. I’ve been a loyal South Garden customer but it was just too frickin hot to walk all the way down there yesterday so I tried No.1, and it was pretty damn good. I always start with the General Tso and branch out from there to Hot and Sour, then lo mein, all the good stuff. It was fried yumminess and no more expensive than any of the other nearby joints. If you’re craving that dive Chinese flavor while on South st, stop in. If you’re closer to 2nd street, South Garden is just as good.

Delivery only. Big fan of their soups and fried rice. Real helpful on the phone(delivery minimum, I understand though) and will deliver when the weather is terrible. Got them a few times now and I’m surprised at the sheer amount of food for $ 20. When they say«30 minutes» it’s exactly that(extra star for that). If you’re in the Wash Sq area, hit them up.

Hell, no one’s reviewed No. 1 yet?! Well, kids, lemme tell you all about it! As much as I love Sam’s food over at Golden Empress Garden on 5th, No. 1 has the better«sweet and sour» anything, hands down. I dunno what it is, but I think it has something to do with the grease content. This is usually a bad thing, but in this case it’s quite yummy. I also dig the shrimp toast. If you’ve never had that, it’s basically these little deep fried triangles filled with minced shrimp meat — or whatever passes for shrimp meat in them — but it’s de-lish! The shrimp rolls are also the bomb, dear readers, and the orange beef cannot be beat when it comes to Americanized Chinese food. And hey, one of their biggest sellers is the fried chicken wings. I know you’re asking, «J., are those chicken wings as good as everything else you’ve mentioned?» Yes, my friends, they are. They’re super cheap as well, as is most of the menu that falls into that classic«competitive prices» category. The joint is run by a nice fellow and I’m assuming his wife. The dudes in the back are always cracking jokes that I can’t understand since I don’t speak the language, but they always seem to be enjoying themselves as they cook up the various and sundry taste sensations. They’re also always pushing the HOMEMADETEA in the front cooler, but I never see anyone order it. Those crazy chicken wings fly out the door constantly, though. The décor is crappy, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The bleached-out picture menu over the front counter lets you know this place has been here longer than your average attention span and will still be there long after we’re gone. Be sure to check out the pic for the seafood delight or whatever the hell it is. Not being able to see the food almost makes it a tantalizing mystery. Apparently they also push fries there as well, but i have yet to indulge.
