Nia’z Chicken & Waffles

Fried Chicken. I, like my mother before me, find myself really craving a little fried somethin’-somethin’ about once a month (guess when). I’d driven by Nia’z dozens of times, always wanting to stop but it never worked out right. Well, today was not great as far as days go, and to soothe my soul I made an emergency decision to zoom my ancient Mazda from center city straight to Nia’z.
$ 5.00 Chicken & Waffles, $ 6.00 if you want only white meat. When I strolled up to the window around 4pm, the man (very sweet) said he only had white meat left. I consented– when you thumbs-​up the healthier choice (even when you actually have no choice) it makes you look pretty suave. All the chicken is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait about 15 minutes or so if you’re going for Nia’z namesake.
I opened my takeout box and the most heavenly aroma filled my car. It was the hardest thing to not pick it apart as I drove. I even tried to, but it burned my fangies ’cause it was that piping hot. This glorious golden-​brown chicken breast sat atop my too-​pale waffle, a meager-​looking cup of syrup on the side. The breading on the chicken breast was well-​seasoned, but the breast itself was a bit dry. I’d recommend the dark meat; if you’re already indulging in chicken & waffles, why not save a buck and enjoy what’d undoubtedly be moister meat. That little cup turned out to hold enough syrup too, because the waffle was, though distinctly not crispy, buttered. Nice flavor to the waffle as well.
Overall, really hit the spot. I’d be surprised if you could find chicken & waffles for less than $ 5 around these parts, either. I’ll definitely be returning.
