Philadelphia is the place where I call HOME. I was born at Albert Einstein Hospital in Logan & raised in North Philadelphia/​West Oak Lane section of this wonderful city; with extensive thought, deep feeling, many of my own trials & tribulations, and personal journeys in my life, I have decided to bring an uplifting, encouraging, and optimistic feeling to the Fishtown neighborhood and community. It is my vision and primary goal to provide this community with a place they can call HOME away from their home, just like I call Philadelphia when I am away on business or personal travels. Nathaniel’s Unisex Salon stands alone amongst many salons because of one simple idea (which became a reality), a Children’s Entertainment Waiting Area! Here the children/​youth can learn things from reading & writing to arts & crafts, and much more! Even more exciting is that the entertainment waiting area is FREE OF CHARGE to everyone who enters the salon.

I went to Nathaniel’s after being referred there by my old roommate and if I had to sum up my experience in one phrase it would be —
«BELIEVE THE HYPE.»
Extremely reasonable price, complimentary snack and drink, and best of all– one of the best haircuts I’ve received in my life! I usually don’t end up forcing conversation with my barber, but Nathaniel was very personable and genuinely interesting to talk to. He was extremely good at communicating with me about my cut, and making sure I ended up with exactly what I asked for. A great haircut, a great guy, and overall just a great hair-​cutting experience.
Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a haircut in the city– and the value is terrific!

I’m scared to write this review. Why should I tell all the other fisherman about the magic pond where every fish you can imagine just jumps into your boat?
One day I came into Nathaniel’s less than 10 minutes before closing time. Someone else was ahead of me and I think by the time I got in the chair the place was technically closed.
Honestly, if they had wanted to get the hell out of there and told me «Sorry, buddy, try tomorrow» or, more likely, had just given me the cut as quickly as possible and hoped I didn’t see the difference… well, it would’ve been my own damned fault.
So, what actually happened?
Pretty much the exact opposite.
The guy took my simple instruction and actually (I am not making this up) did a significantly better job than expected. When, in this vale of tears, do you actually get more than what you paid for, a better deal than you expected?
This place is like that time you found a $ 100 bill on the sidewalk.

$ 10 for shape up. Came in late on a Saturday afternoon. Nate was able to cut my hair right away and he did a good job. Very friendly & efficient customer service. I definitely plan on going back next time I’m in Philly.

I have a tough hairline and the only person who has ever given my the right hair cut for the past 20 years was my cousin. I moved to philly a few months ago and tried a few barbershops and none have me the cut I wanted until I came here. Zack killed it. Not only is he great at what he does, him and all of the guys that work there are awesome people. This is my new place and will be for as long as I live in Philly. Thanks

Yeah, the haircut was perfect and exactly what I asked for.
But that’s not only reason I’m making this my barber shop and recommending it to you. The gentlemen who run this place are good, solid human beings who renew my faith in life. They were so friendly and helpful to me the first time I walked into their place, frantically searching for a bucket-​full of water for a local mural project. And when I finally returned months later, I had the immense pleasure to chat with Nate about a wide range of topics. He’s a thoughtful, smart and deep person. And the man can cut some hair, too.
All that AND a bag of chili-​cheese Fritos? Shoot. How could I go anywhere else?

Nathaniel’s is the spot! love going there for cuts and chopping it up with zakee. he gives me the good beard shape up and my son a nice scissor cut for his longer hair. he’s always got treats and juice boxes for the kids so if you got a kid that hates haircuts he will get over it at Nathaniel’s.

Nate, the owner, was there and was really friendly, talkative, really worked to make me feel like I was at ease and getting a good haircut. The haircut turned out good. This is a place to really explain everything that you want done to your hair; this isn’t a place where you just say you want an inch off and make it look good and then it comes together. It’s an involved experience, which some people might not want. But if you’re particular and know what you want, this is the place to go. And for $ 10, I got a great cut! I even came back the same day and had the back lightened up a bit and he fixed it up for free and it looks great.

Wow… What a Fantastic place to get a great hair cut and beard trim. The employees where really kind and answered all my questions. I explained to them that I was knew to the area and was looking for a barber to keep me sharp. I now have one. Thank you guys. Awesome cut. Great pricing. They even have a play room for the little ones to keep busy while you get trimmed. Will be there for my weekly now. Quotes

I was pretty psyched to try this little shop just a few blocks from my house. I walked in and asked for a haircut. I have very short hair and, without even asking what I was interested in, I was told that they can not help me because there are no hair stylists there, just barbers. No questions asked or dialog at all. I was sent out. They might want to change their name or possibly improve their customer service/​communication.

I have to echo Norrin’s review — my husband just got his hair cut here and called me immediately afterwards to rave about his experience. When I answered the phone he said, «I just got the best haircut of my life.»
Usually he goes to the Hair Cuttery by Thrifyway, but today when he went there was a massive wait. He decided to try out this place since he always drives by it, and he loved it.
It was only $ 10.00 for a haircut (less than the Hair Cuttery) and the owner was apparently super friendly and awesome. He used to be a biochemist but he hated his job and decided to open his own business and become a barber, like his dad.
Anyway, they have free drinks and snacks, an area for kids, and you can get hot shaves… none of those things are offered at the Hair Cuttery, that’s for sure. My man is a fan and you should be, too.

I just got my hair cut here, and I feel great! Zak, the owner, provides excellent customer service and ensures that you get your hair cut just the way you want it. The price is very affordable and the atmosphere is laid-​back. Unique qualities about the shop include: mad scientist mural (the owner is a biologist), complementary snacks, and a kids room (where kids can play until your appointment is finished).
