Summary: Meh… Okay food(and that’s a real compliment), okay place. I’d just recommend Byblos if lounge is the name of the game(hookah, that is). Not a partaker myself, but the folks with me seemed to like that place more(keeping in mind that I also gave Byblos 2**)… ‘Nuff said.

A group of 30+ of us decided after a performance this past May that we wanted to eat, drink and be merry together. We drove out to the Mokas Café, which is owned by a friend of our party, and they were happy to stay open late and accomodate our large party. The place was deserted when we got there, and we quickly took over the place and had a grand time. Standard Greek/Mediterranean fare and libations at a fair price. The food was prepared as is typically expected and I enjoyed myself. Because of the large size of our party it took over an hour to get served though, but given the hour, we didn’t complain. I got a Greek Sampler which had a tasty of assortment of the typical vegetarian fare: feta, olives, tzatsiki, spinach pie, etc… It was yummy. We spend hours drinking and dancing and had the time of our lives. The DJ spinned a fascinating euro-mix all night of Greek, Spanish, American techno and Middle Eastern. What a blast! I agree with previous comments that the place is dark and the food isn’t great, but it’s a really fun place to go for a late night bender with friends.

I saw a really great local band here once, and I thought it would be cool to bring a date here, since it was to a hookah bar, and she liked to smoke, But when we got our food it was just average. It was like a gyro I’ve had from a food truck. Not to put down food trucks or anything. Also, It was in the winter time and there was a real chilly breeze coming from the corner. The hookah w/flavored tobacco was cool, but I retrospect I should of taken date to byblos or something. If you want to check out some cool local bands, grab a few beers and smoke a hookah. I recommend. But don’t take a date here, or come for extravagant dining.

Meh. I came here the night before moving back to New York at the invitation of an acquaintance. What a disappointment. This place is kind of scary. Very dark, bad music, not-so-good food, and decrepit, leaky hookahs. Even worse was the bartender(Yes lady, you actually do have Vermouth, it’s right there. What? Oh, Vermouth is a herbal wine, yeah.) I guess I’m not coooool enough to appreciate Mokas, and I’d rather not get to know those who are.

More or less, Mokas is a hookah bar. I don’t see people eating here too often. On Thursday-Saturday, it’s pretty packed… especially in warmer weather because of their patio. The whole hookah campaign never really was my thing, but for less than ten bucks… Mokas gives you any from a rotating list of special tobacco to burn… which will last you and yours plenty of time. I guess my problem with the place is it’s not that cozy. Bare table-tops, uncomfortable chairs… doesn’t that kinda defeat the purpose? It’s also very college-y, as you’d expect being in this part of town. I don’t know… I guess it boils down to who you’re with, but in olde city, there’s better… so I’m told.
