Our block contracted with McFarland to plant 8 trees on the block. They gave us a date and time within a few days to come out and give an estimate. The owner showed up exactly on time and was easy to work with. I know nothing about trees and he gave great advice on appearance and suitability for the location. His prices were comparable to other arborists. The trees were planted within a couple of weeks on the day and time that he promised. They are knowledgeable, and dependable. Highly recommended.

I recently found myself in need of someone to trim the massive holly tree in the rear garden of my center city row home down to more reasonable proportions. It towered over our 40′ roof line, branched out to knock on the neighbors’ windows and had thousands of needle sharp points on its charming holly leaves — clearly not a DIY bit of tree trimming. I must have called about half a dozen companies with some variations of «Philadelphia tree service» in their name only to find out that they either A) didn’t actually work downtown, or B) were unwilling to come out for a single tree project, before McFarland was suggested to me. Peter McFarland returned my call the next morning and came out to look at my tree that weekend. Scheduling the work was easy, and the two fellows who showed up to do the job were friendly, polite and spoke fluent English. They completed the work within the estimated two hours and, for the most part, were successful in getting the huge amounts of trimmed tree through my living room, down the stairs and out the front door without making a mess inside. At the outset, I thought the quoted price of $ 480 was a little more than I had hoped to pay. However, after seeing how much work was really involved and how experienced they were at working in the unique confines of downtown environments, it seems very fair. I was amazed at just how much«tree matter» ended up being removed that day, and I would not hesitate to use McFarland for any of my future tree or landscaping needs.
