This is my go to place for late dinners. They’re open till 2 am. 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Small little place but the food is good and made fast. The guy run in the place can be rude sometimes but that’s mostly because of the language barrier and super rude racist drunk kids that come in there and abuse him on his face and smoke pot in there. I would be grumpy if that were my place too. But the guy himself fails to understand English at times and occasionally messes up the order. Over all a good place to get late night Chinese take out and one of the very few food places open this late in west philly.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Lucky’s General Tso’s Tofu ever since I was in college. I finally ventured into the Baltimore Ave take-out spot this past Friday for some quick, easy, delicious Chinese food. I went for the Sesame Tofu Combination Platter(always a good deal) and my boyfriend ordered General Tso’s chicken. The food was probably better-than-average, with flavorful sauces, and tender chicken/tofu. Behind the staggered plexiglass counter, the man who took our order was really nice. A few different people came in and said hello to him by name. Clearly a favorite of many neighbors — which, i think, is a good sign.

I had a horrible experience with this place. I ordered 3 wings and pork fried rice. The food was horrible!!! I went to eat a chicken wing & I noticed it tasted like they cooked it in really old grease or the grease had been sitting out for to long like they haven’t changed it in a while. I thought it was only me and I asked my daughter to taste the rice and she immediately smelled the old grease smell. I called them and told them I was going to bring the food back and once I got there, I told him I want my money back and the guy started to yell at me. I was talking to him very calmly and he’s screaming & yelling like a crazy person. He only have me a portion of my money because one wing was eaten, he told me he would only reimburse me if all the food was there. He was very unprofessional & I told him I will report him to the better business bureau. I will never give them my business again & I feel that should be shut down. I GIVETHEMNOSTARS!!!

Reliably good Chinese food, perfect for late night cravings. I wish they delivered! Pi lam special is the way to go(a mix of general tso and sweet & sour).

Lucky’s is always there when everything else is closed but that’s about all its good for. If your looking for Chinese food Chili Szechuan is just 1 block and AMAZING. If your looking for dutches, backwoods, and loosies just go to 49th and Baltimore where their cheaper and fresher.

Absolutely love the chicken teriyaki in a stick– delicious and only $ 1.25! Everything I have tried there was pretty good, considering the price

Food is okay. The wings are pretty good they do take forever so order your food ahead of time. The people who work there are nice to you if your nice to them.

Perfect late night guilty pleasure. General Tso’s tofu is off the hook. Hands down best place for vegetarians/vegans/carnivores to get tofu.

A journey of a 1,000 miles begins with a single egg roll The owner is sitting at the table under a hot fluorescent light, slurping his product and grunting with evident satisfaction. A fine advertisement. His daughter takes my order. She does an innocent sensual walk from behind the glass to the open door. I process this peripherally. A transvestite in heels walks in to use the ATM. Our proprietor, Wan*, two children, wife, store, green card, no, make that store, green card, wife, two children, grunts and looks dead ahead. Outside I run into friends passing by. Rory, whose long blond hair and steady blue eyes are a delight to behold, invites me to Dahlak for a beer. Rory is trailed, unfortunately, by Jonathan and his new girlfriend. She seems young, as young as Wan’s daughter in experience, and eager to make a good impression. Talk, as it always does with Jonathan and his ilk, turns spontaneously to drugs. Coney Island, mushrooms, etc. There is desperation behind this thirst for fun. I feel parched just talking to them. I promise to hang out soon – a promise I have no intention of keeping – and go back inside to check on my egg roll. Wan has vacated the table. The daughter is back behind the safety of the glass. The sun is going down. A herd of people are quietly rejoicing, having made it this far, from God knows where. Where are we going? Who will be there waiting for us when we arrive in our new city? *names have been changed

I might never go back to Sabrina’s for brunch again. The pizza rolls are to die for. The lettuce-wrap kale tacos were shockingly good. I felt like maybe they were eager for us to finish up so our table was free, but that’s just part of brunch these days, I guess right?

This is a place with a dual — personality. On the one hand, the actual food isn’t bad for an Americanized Chinese take-out place. I’ve had general tao’s chicken, and a few tofu dishes here. Neither are bad, but Not the best I’ve had, but far, far from the worst. The prices are very good — that seems to be the main draw of this place. However, the late — late hours they’re open, combined with the bullet — resistant glass, with the low prices, tends to attract, well, not exactly the next CEO of a major company, if you know what I mean. Not once have I come here to get take out, and NOT been accosted for money coming in/going out/both. Can I blame the business for this? Yes and no. Nowhere else along Baltimore Ave(up to Dock Street on 50th) have I been panhandled to, other than here. So, two stars may sound harsh, but taking everything into consideration… that’s what it is… If the place were fixed up, and the riff raff left, it would probably be a 3 or 4 from me.

Walking by this restaurant can kind of scare potential customers, but, I think the food is good and the family that owns it is nice. The food is good and not expensive. They have mostly Chinese dishes and a few American dishes. Tonight i got the Shrimp fried rice, chicken with mixed vegetables and the mixed egg drop/wonton soup. My two dishes: shrimp friend rice and chicken with mixed vegetables were tasty. the soup was bland and I had to add soy sauce. this establishment also sells candy, ice cream. I learned from back home in Chicago, the little hole in the walls had the best food. Lucky’s could very well be one of the hidden gems of this neighborhood. Food was not greasy. it tasted fresh. I like this hidden gem…

Luckys is kind of scary. Its a walk in take out place that dishes out candy and chinese food from behind bullet proof glass. I typically ordered pickup from here when I lived around the corner. I put up with the bulletproof glass and homeless dudes coming in to buy single cigarettes because some of the food is good by chinese take out standards. I actually enjoyed the general tso“s and the egg rolls were large and delicious. I will say I normal judge chinese places by the quality of their hot and sour soup. Lucky“s hot and sour soup is middle of the road. Their fried rice is forgettable. The prices are a draw. Cheap combo platters with egg rolls and soup make for a good meal when your broke and looking for chinese. Overall I give it four stars when you compare it to other similar take out chinese places. I wouldn’t get it to impress a guest or if I feel good about myself in the morning. But sometimes you are looking for good cheap chinese and this fits the bill.

It’s a walkup take-out place with no seating and fast service, and that in and of itself seems to scare some of the people on Unilocal.Oh well. The rest of us can enjoy our $ 1.50 ice cream cones(they give you the equivalent of a double scoop), won ton soup(not greasy), and all the tofu dishes. Quick lunch or real-late-night dinner. And the added bonus of the streetside storefront that attempts to bring all things to all people(buying cigarettes at Lucky’s is up to a dollar cheaper than the ones at Fu-Wah or the Sunoco!). If you want a fancy dining experience, please move back to South Philadelphia and complain about your gluten allergies there.

Screw the haters. Had general tso’s tofu, kung pao tofu and veggie lo mein from here the other night, and loved it. In a city with a chinese/american takeout place practically on every corner, this is the best i’ve had in the city. Don’t go in expecting it to be a fancy chinatown spot. Go in with a big appetite and ready to devour some delicious, greasy, cheap chinese. I haven’t head any meat dishes, and this place seems to be a favorite among vegetarians, but I imagine those are solid as well.

Let’s weight the Pro’s and Con’s here: Pro: Open late provides service to neighborhood. Con: Bullet-proof glass creates barrier between business and community. Pro: Cheap and greasy. Con: Your hospital bill from eating this food won’t be cheap unless you can grease your way out of paying it. Pro: They are called«Lucky’s» Con: But is the luck they bring you good or bad? Good luck deciding. I’m cooking at home tonight.

Lucky’s always manages to have me walking the tight rope between 2 and 3 stars. So since I covered the the three star rating the last time I may as well cover some of worst, while covering just a little bit of the good. Lucky’s is so not a place that you want to experiment in! As I’ve covered before it’s so damn cheap that you generally have an idea what your getting yourself into. But if you take it too far you might just find General Tso thrusting his wrathful bayonet through your sternum. and personally I’ll admit that I’ve found myself clutching the porcelain throne and gazing upon the cloudy waters of my devastation more times than I’d like to admit because of here. BUT if you keep it simple within moderation, than Lucky’s can be pure bliss, albeit still on a devastating level since it’s also still open well within the drinking hours(I’ve lost track of how many cheesesteak egg rolls I’ve ordered past midnight. Is that Bad? Yeah maybe it is — ). Their small fries which go beyond the super sized are only $ 1, thus adding up to the best $ 1 ever spent! And hell, I already covered cheesesteak egg rolls and the fact that it’s open past midnight. So if you use Lucky’s sparingly it can be wonderful. But otherwise it could get ugly —
