Loop

The yarns are great, but the selection isn’t too wide and doesn’t appear to change very frequently. I love the sale section, there’s usually a pretty great mix of yarns and colorways back there to look through. I also love that they have knitted garments on display and on the shelves as samples of each yarn — it’s even better than swatches.
Like many others have said, I really wish this place felt less sterile. It is always so quiet in here that I actually feel kind of awkward handling any of the yarn.

I go here a LOT! They have beautiful yarns, plenty of notions. Knick knacks. Needles. Lots and lots of gorgeous sock yarn. Cotton hemp bento bags for projects. An awesome rewards system.
They are also very very helpful.
However, the ambiance is a wee bit uncomfortable. It is very quiet and I feel like I have to whisper. They are friendly, so I can deal with it. Sometimes if you go in looking for a specific thing (sweaters worth of Noro) they will try to recommend Madtosh. I end up getting a skein or two. They have a lot of it and a lot of the colorways are Loop exclusive.
If you’re into nice yarn, check it out.
ETA: If I could recommend one thing to staff, it would be to play music.

You will never meet sweeter people than those that work at LOop, kind and helpful. I live all the way in bucks county but this is my go to yarn store. I love the feel of the store, bright, clean, organized full of gorgeous, tasteful and modern yarn! I highly recommend this store to all you yarn addicts out there.

Today was my first time at Loop, I am a very beginner knitter and I took a knitting class with Erika. I thought it was quite helpful, I have a better idea how to knit and cast on. I like that the class was small, I was definitely the beginner there but I don’t mind. I will be back but for a private lesson, I think that’s best. Beautiful skeins of yarn everywhere!

I stopped here on a trip to Philly on the recommendation of a friend. It was a nice shop. My favorite thing about it was the display of finished products, scarves, blankets, sweaters, etc., designed to get you to buy the yarn and patterns. Every yarn shop has them but this shop’s displays were eye catching and made me want to buy yarn to make every single thing out in the store. The employees were friendly and offered help but were not annoying since I really was just wandering around looking for yarn I had to have to add to the stash, but not for anything specific. I picked up two skeins of madtosh chunky and they offered to wind it and actually sounded like it wouldn’t be the biggest PITA ever, like they sound at other places. Since I have my own ball winder, I declined, but left pretty happy. I’m debating stopping in again before I leave town just to see if I missed anything.

I really liked this shop! The ambiance is really modern with fantastic staff. The people in a business make such a difference and Loop has some of the best I’ve ever experienced! It was so refreshing to see a young man gushing over the skeins and recommending patterns. He had a really cool eye and excellent ideas. I also liked their displays and samples. They really showcased the yarns. I’m also super glad I signed up for their e-​mail list and FB page as I am constantly getting pattern ideas and notices of new classes. My only negative about this sop is the quantity of yarn. I wish their selection was a bit bigger. The shop feels a little empty and could use a bit more variety. But, again, it’s the people they have there that make this a five star in my book!

Three times is the limit for me. I’ve visited this store three times and been made to feel like I was «bothering» the clerk each time-​and I’m sure one was the owner! I gave one star because the store looks pretty. If you want to be treated like your business is appreciated, try one of the other Center City yarn stores. The arrogance of the Loop team isn’t worth it. I live close to Loop, but am happy to take a walk to another area just to avoid their rudeness. From the reviews, I see that I’m not alone.

Great shop for both the beginner and more advanced. Great yarns available and very helpful staff. I drop by when I want to get my creative juices going.

I signed up for basic sewing classes.
The night of my first class I missed due to work. I went into the establishment and asked if I could jump into another class on a different night. The answer was NO. Mind you I was not asking for my money back.
I said «you would think for such a small business you would try to work with me?»
The women’s answer was «That’s exactly why I can’t offer you another class, I’m a small business». (Not such a great answer to tell a customer.)
To top it off the shop was filled with ladies shopping, starring at the owner and I making me feel like I didn’t belong and very uncomfortable.
Well now LOOP is 60+ dollars richer! Merry Christmas!!!

After 11 years of knitting, I still love Loop. I’m always impressed by the new yarns Craig and Laura bring in and I appreciate their dedication to choosing local and independent fiber artists as well as more commercially available products. They’ve even got their own line now that Laura hand dyes. The service and kindness of the staff is still unparalleled. If you’re a Philly native or just passing through, be sure to pop into my favorite place in the city.

Just took a beginning knitting class at Loop and it was great! The teacher, Kathy, was so helpful, patient, and experienced. Personally, I think it was a great value. For under $ 100, you got 8 hours of class time and all of your materials (several spools of yarn, different kinds of needles, and anything else you needed to make your first hat and neck warmer!). I even had to miss a class and Kathy was so accommodating and went out of her way to teach me what I missed. This was a great experience and I highly recommend Loop’s classes.
The store has beautiful products too. I know I’ll be back soon.

I’ve only been here once so far, but everyone was really nice to me! It probably helps that I walked in wearing a scarf and hat knitted by my bestie – gave me handmade street cred, right?!
I’m just learning to crochet, so I needed supplies. The woman working there was very helpful in telling me what kind of crochet hook & yarn I needed as a beginner & why I needed it.
I hope this new hobby of mine sticks & I get really good at it. If that happens, they’re going to be seeing a lot of me at Loop.

This is the best yarn store in Philly.
They carry the most beautiful yarns, so get ready to start a new project…
The staff here is very helpful, and they will even wind the yarn for you (unlike at Rosie’s, where they make you wind it yourself, and are often rude to some customers).

I’m going to have to update again because there is some tendency there to be not quite so helpful. I am upset because I had emailed them to ask them to hold on to some skeins because I live 5 blocks from there and didn’t want to pay $ 6 for shipping. I received a reply saying that they could do that. So I ordered the yarn.
Then when I went to pick the skeins up straight after class the next day, the worker there said, «oh, oops. haha, it’ll get there soon»
Yeah. NOT helpful. NOT ok. Didn’t the address 5 blocks away tip you off or did you think I’m super lazy?
wtf.
On the other hand, their selection of madelinetosh is unparalleled.

Made a stop to Loop as I was visiting Philly for a few days. The store itself is gorgeous. It really looks like a lovely photo. While it is lovely, it does feel a little sterile. I don’t quite get the cozy vibe from the store.
The selection of yarns is fantastic. They carry a wide variety of hand dyed yarns. The accessories element was lacking a bit. I like to find unique things at a LYS… things that can’t be found at JoAnns.
Worth a stop if you are looking for some nice yarn!

I really like this store. I’ve been knitting for a few years now, and it’s always interesting to see how different yarn stores operate. Loop tends to have a pricier selection than other stores in the area, but it’s a great place to go if you’re looking for higher end yarn. I think their prices are reasonable for what they are carrying — even online, these yarns would retail within a dollar or two of what Loop charges. Their Madelinetosh yarn selection is fantastic. They have lots of colors and they carry a variety of blends from this brand. They also carry Koigu, a pricey sock yarn that I’ve never seen carried in a shop before. In addition to these, they have a number of Berroco blends, which tend to be less expensive. The only downside is the lack of machine washable blends — they didn’t have a huge selection of those when I was there last.
The staff at this store is pretty helpful and it’s well organized. I haven’t taken any classes here yet, but I would like to eventually. Their website is also well organized and informative — they have a nice blog and a concise class schedule for those who are interested. It’s a great place to go just to browse or to find something pretty for any of the projects you’re working on. I highly recommend joining their customer list — it keeps track of your purchases, and they give you discounts once you hit a certain amount. I think this place is a must visit if you’re into knitting or crochet.

I took knitting classes with Kathy here. Yes the class was filled with some post-​modern hipster types but Kathy was awesome and normal. Plus I learned how to knit!
After the class, I’ve been in a couple times and have dropped more money here lately than on anything but rent. I’ve got a couple scarves and a hat to show for it.
Yes yarn is a bit expensive, but it’s 2 blocks from my house and kmart apparently doesn’t sell yarn so it’s Loop if I want something: D

I need to update my review, because I haven’t been to Loop since last winter, and I am fantasizing about it.
Honestly, as much as I hate how pricey the yarns are, I have to say this store is the stuff yarn dreams are made of. I saw a scarf the other day in a store, and it started the annual «OMG it’s that time of year where it’s chilly so I want to crochet nonstop while watching football and eating apples.» And Loop has been in my brain ever since. I cannot wait to go in there and molest all of the beautifully-​colored yarns.
