Little Spoon Cafe

Nice cozy place. Tried the Monte Cristo sandwich which comes with ham, gouda, fried eggs and jalapeño mayo. Very interesting flavors!

This is a cozy brunch spot that has solid vegetarian options. But I was disappointed they didn’t have any vegan scrapple. They also just ran out of tempeh bacon. But they were able to put some tempeh bacon in the hash of my veggie scramble.
The sitting was self serve when I visited. This easily worked for parties of two. I was with a party of three, so it was a bit more challenging. After we ordered and before the food arrived, someone asked if we could more so that they could put two tables together for a five of five. We went along with this and everything worked out. It was interesting to see how all this worked it’s self out without a hostess.
I should also mention there was also a very cold draft when the front door was opened. They could address this by adding a vestibule at the doorway.

I’ve been going here once a week since October 2015. My favorite choice for coffee. Interior (as you’ll see from other photos) is quaint and relaxing. Staff is a great group of people. I simply order the breakfast burrito with potatoes on the side. Delicious!

I was here with a group of five this past weekend. We were seated quickly and with a smile from the staff. The menu was good, though a bit limited for the vegetarian in our group. But the BYOB aspect is fun as I always love a mimosa!
It was pretty loud, which just means people were happy and having a good time, which is another good sign. I thought the food was fun and different, without being too unusual. The prices are very reasonable too. I’ll be back!

I stopped by Little Spoon around 9 am for breakfast today. I’ve been eyeing this place ever since I walked by and saw the huge spoon on the side of the building. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and my boyfriend had ordered the omelette with bacon, that also came with toast and potatoes. My pancakes were the average blueberry pancakes, but my boyfriend and I really liked the potatoes that came with the omelette and the toast with butter and blueberry compote. I would visit again and try something different.

I had such high hopes for this place. The décor is adorable, Im very impressed with their beverage selection (I LOVE a good cold brew), and the menu seemed to have some great options that were a little more interesting than the average BLT or omelette.
The atmosphere is calm and quaint, and the guy behind the ipad taking orders was very nice and accomodating.
My only real concerns were with the food. I ordered their chicken salad sandwich, and while the arugula was a great fresh component, the bread was dry and crumbled all over me before it even got in my mouth. It couldnt quite hold up to the thick sandwich. The pickles it came with were decent, and the chicken salad itself wasnt bad, but not incredibly interesting. The whole sandwich really lacked something, like an interesting mayo or sauce. It was a bit bland.
Overall, although the décor and vibe and staff all got an A+, the food is really what matters and for a mediocre $ 10 sandwich, I probably wont come back. But maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.

Pretty standard hip brunch joint. Everything is well-​done, but nothing stands out. The décor is inviting, the tables are a little snug. The service is good. The wife had pancakes, which were nothing special. I had the Monte Cristo, which imho, should be completely deep fried and come with jam, as opposed to the two french toasts sandwiching a ton of ham and cheese they have going on.

This place is so welcoming and cozy. I need to write a review about the Monte Cristo sandwich though, in particular. It is hands-​down one of the best brunch sandwiches I’ve ever had. Like it’s Monday and I’m still thinking about it 24 hours later. It comes with a side salad of arugula that has delicious dressing and it somehow compliments the sandwich perfectly!
Our server was very kind and attentive. I also love how I got a massive cup of coffee in a Charlie Brown mug. I really think this is one of the best places you can eat brunch in Philly.

The brisket sandwich with an egg was great, the slaw makes it complete. Cold brew coffee flavor was excellent.

Consistently Delish and Friendly
I LOVE this little café. I live in the neighborhood, and since they opened a year ago, I have probably tried almost everything on the menu. They offer a weekday menu, which changes seasonally, and a brunch menu which is new and interesting every weekend.
They cure their own bacon, make their own jams, and the food is FRESH.
The staff is friendly and it’s the kind of place «where everybody knows your name,» and your favorite beverage.
Although the restaurant is small, the décor is absolutely adorable. Vintage pieces make you feel like you are eating a homey meal at mom’s kitchen table. I love the vibe.
No restaurant is perfect everyday, and some of the Unilocal critics are relentless in their commentary. But consistency? That’s the café that gets my vote, and keeps me coming back. Consistently. See you again soon, Little Spoon!

Visiting the are for the weekend I Unilocaled my way to this little café around 8am on a Saturday. The tables are a bit close together for my liking. I basically felt like I was sitting WITH the family next to me rather than next to them.
Service started out a bit slow. They were full but didn’t seem crazy busy. It seemed to take a long time to get offered coffee and then to receive it. And a while to order. But, once we got the ball rolling it was all good.
I went with the breakfast burrito, a solid option, but nothing to write home about. It was pretty standard. Boyfriend got the monte cristo which was also good but didn’t blow him away. This place is A-​ok in my book.
Note (and having no bearing on my review) –8am is apparently when little kids get to do brunch. Loud little kids. Lesson learned.

My last experience at Little Spoon left a lot to be desired. My friend and I, having really enjoyed our previous visit a couple months ago, decided to return for lunch and some catching up. We both ordered the exact same things we had on the previous visit — the omelet with cheddar, apples and sausage for me, the meatloaf sandwich for him.
We ordered and paid separately, which was probably a mistake. My omelet was dropped off about two minutes after we sat down, while my friend waited a good 5 – 10 minutes more for his sandwich. My omelet had no sausage whatsoever. They simply forgot to add it in, even though it’s a staple on their menu. There was hardly any cheese and the very sweet apples overpowered the eggs. The breakfast potatoes were bland and undercooked. Also, they were out of multigrain bread so I had a choice of sourdough or white. I went with the sourdough which was very good but I would have preferred multi or wheat.
Eventually, my friend received his sandwich; the ingredients were completely engulfed by the bread. The meatloaf inside looked dry and unappetizing — my friend said it tasted completely different from the last time we were there.
This wasn’t the first time I visited Little Spoon and left underwhelmed. I’m officially taking it out of the lunch rotation.

Little Spoon Café was a little confusing to me — is it a working café or is it a café for eating? At this point, it seems like it caters to both, but I think I’d rather come here to catch up with some friends over food vs sitting here to work next time!
I came here around 9am on a Friday morning, and the place was bustling with people. I got the blueberry steel cut oatmeal and an iced Americano. Both were just okay, to be honest, but it looked like the other breakfast items looked scrumptious!
Service was decent and quick — everyone around me seemed to get their food in a timely manner even though the kitchen seemed busy. The café is quite cute, and the cashiers seemed to know many people coming in through the door. Seating is limited, and it can get pretty loud, but I would give this café another try next time I am in the area!

The atmosphere is nice here, but space is limited. We were sat by the window on high chairs. A couple was sat right next to us. 4 ppl up against the wall? No thanks. Took forever for our coffee orders to come too. Not sure why…
Food was good though. I ordered the strawberry shortcake pancakes (2 instead of 3). Came out to $ 7. My friend got the steak and eggs. ($ 12)
Overall the food was good. Maybe i hyped this place up in my head or maybe its the fact that ive been to sooo many diff brunch spots in Philly now its just had to compete. I wont give up on you little spoon dont worry ill be back.

I’ve been here several times, every single time I find myself trapped in the same vicious cycle of ordering the same thing over and over! The amazing and beautiful beast and King of breakfast sandwiches… The one and only: Monte Cristo at little spoon in Philly.
This sandwich is truly amazing, the French toast is made with fluffy perfect buttery brioche with a delicious spread with a kick of jalapeño. Trapped in the middle of this is delicious salty pork ham, smoked Gouda and a delicious runny egg! All of this flavors melt in together: the saltines, sweetness and the buttery bread come together with the creamy egg to make love to your taste buds !!

We live close by and have never stopped in — very glad we finally made a point to get «brunch» here yesterday. At around noon on a Sunday we did have to wait maybe 10 – 15 minutes for a table for 2 — no big! The place is pretty small. They do have some outdoor seating but not a ton. We sat inside, but the windows and doors were open so it was almost like being outside!
We each ordered a smoothie (peanut butter for me, sunshine for him) and a meal (avocado toast for me, lox and bagel sandwich for him). Everything was delicious. We ended up only finishing half of our meals and taking the rest to go for later.
Service was great. The owner, or at least someone very involved in the business, stopped by because she saw us admiring the one wall that was chiseled with some test tube flowers hanging in it. Apparently that was all hand-​chiseled, and she pointed out a deer and a rabbit (and even an accidental poop emoji) in the design.
Very cool place — I will absolutely be back for some quick morning smoothies and we will definitely be back for a meal very soon!
** They do not accept AMEX but otherwise they do take cash or credit and they are BYOB if you want to have some bloody mary’s or mimosas with your brunch! **

A little late review for this cool brunch spot. Memorial Day weekend Sunday brunch here with delight. Weather was spectacular and outdoor seating was enjoyable. Warm but not too hot with lots of shade.
I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes which were light, airy & delicious. Hints of ricotta oozing out of the fluffy flapjacks of goodness. Also, ordered turkey bacon as a suitable compliment that did not disappoint. Also wanted to order a poached egg but disappointingly they don’t do poached eggs. The pancakes were so filling that I had to take some home as leftovers.
So, as we are waiting for the check, I noticed the table next to us ordered the most delightful vibrant orange smoothie. As I tried to look away it looked salivatingly yummy so I asked what is was and ordered one for the road. Hands down, one of the best smoothies, I’ve ever ordered out. It was called Death by Sunshine smoothie. The fusion of orange juice, pineapple juice, mango sorbet & vanilla syrup, kinda made me weak due to the delicious factor.

It was brunch O’clock on a perfect Sunday, and all what I needed, was some comforting food and good coffee. I searched for a new and under-​the-​radar spot. My virtual food companion, Unilocal,directed me to a little place called the little spoon. This place was more than just a café. Along with a great great cup of coffee, or in my case, a spicy mexican mocha, there were the KILLER pancakes.
Chive pancakes, cheddar, and yogurt? Yes!
When the big spoon whisk the goodness of three cabot cheddar and chive in one delicious and fluffy pancakes, there was little need for just a touch of some heavenly apple whipped yogurt.
Not just this hole in the wall was adorable, welcoming, and inexpensive, but most importantly featured tasty food. Take my word for it.

Love it here. I’ve been 3 times and have had great experiences each time. First time I had the chicken and biscuits and they were tasty, maybe a little over salted. Next time I had the standard pancakes and they were so fluffy and with a hint of vanilla. Also we were sitting next to Connor Barwin and a few other Eagles so that didn’t hurt the meal!
Went back today and had the lemon ricotta pancakes. Good flavor and fluffy though maybe not as dry as I’d like. Had the berry smoothie it was delicious and creamy. Also got the turkey bacon, I could eat that all day every day.
Things to note before you go:
— its byob! But they do charge for mixers by the glass so I’d opt to just get a carafe to save money
— its tiny so there’s usually a wait from 15 to 30 minutes
— coffee is delicious
— service is always great and friendly
