I can’t believe how the newer owners took a pillar of that neighborhood and destroyed it. The reviewer before me must be delusional or a family member! «Carmen’s» used to have lines running out the back door with more specials then you could shake a leg at, then when it was changed to «kings deli» they took away the loyalty card program, all the buy one get one free specials and raised all the lunch meat by a dollar a pound! I would go into carmens all the time just to see the special of the day and recently when I went back I saw an empty store with bare shelves. This place used to have 5 – 6 guys working behind the deli counter and now there was one guy fighting to stay awake. All original staff were gone replaced by owners family members. It’s a shame that a store I used to frequent all the time I’ll probably never step foot in again!

Super shocked that this place hasn’t gotten enough recognition for their sandwiches! Have been going all of my life. The absolute BEST that you can ask for in sandwiches: hoagies or cheese steak wise. They offer between $ 6.40 to $ 7.50 in their hoagies and cheese steaks, and a lot of variety in their other sandwiches. My personal recommendation is the mushroom cheese steak with everything on it.($ 7.50) They have separate slicers for their meats and cheeses, all fine quality. Approximately $ 7 to $ 10 per pound between the meats and cheeses. They function also as a basic grocery store for most of your needs. Pet foods, candies, household products, breads, snacks, towels and plates, milk and juices, etc. Nothing like a dollar tree or an Acme, but fundamentals. They also have beer and other alcohol in a separate section. Some smokes and batteries and the like in the back, some gambling cards next to the front cashier. I mostly love this place for their deli, because cheese steaks and hoagies just aren’t made like this in South Philly – trust me on this! They’re so fresh and last well for a day or two, and TASTESOGOOD! Because I always get everything on my sandwiches, I must warn for anyone who is not a fan of certain condiments, that they definitely go the whole nine yards with their mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, onions, pickles, peppers, etc with whatever you want on your sandwiches. Olive oil and tomatoes are offered in their hoagies if you do it like I do, but be specify with what you want if you’re particular. Fried onions or hot peppers, etc. They play it mild more often than not. It always depends on who’s making your sandwich and taking your order as to whether or not it’s a neat sandwich, just saying in advance. Because I love this place for their quality and freshness, I don’t personally mind. I never have gotten the chance to remember everyone’s names but they’ve been constants in my life whenever I come by. Very friendly customer service, doesn’t mind if you go up to them about something whose price you may be iffy about. If you’re in the area, def check this place if at least for their deli. Maybe grab some other things on your way around the store while waiting.(Usually maybe 10ish minutes while they make your order. I always order at least two sandwiches, so it’s usually around that time.) Hands down, if I haven’t repeated it enough, the best sandwiches.
