Don’t listen to some of the negative reviews. I think that this place is a gem. My sister loved her treatment here when she was admitted for cardiac problems. The care she received was absolutely first rate!

While the building is older and perhaps not as nice as other hospitals in Philly, the doctors and nurses here are amazing. Specifically, radiation oncology on the first floor and gyn. Oncology on the 15^th floor are excellent. I never received such compassionate care. Same day surgery can get a little crazy so early morning appointments are best. I stayed overnight once and found the nurses to be patient, kind and attentive. The room was comfortable and clean. I also had positive experiences with the hospital’s radiology department. No billing issues yet (my last visit was last month). For longer term care like cancer treatment, I do recommend this hospital.

This hospital is run by criminals. Not only is their customer service absolutely horrible, but also they charge you $ 5,000 for a blood test, few stitches and an injection.

The worst hospital in philadelhia other than at joes … They prey upon the poor residents of north philly … My mom died in less than two years from things made worst… not better by this awful awful hospital

I came here for my surgery and the guy was in room no 1444, black guy he is supervisor and my nurse told him he didn’t and he said I don’t care even if he die, never gonna come back here, sorry for ur work mr supervisor

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. If you plan to deliver your baby here. DONT!
Where do I begin? First there were students in my room even after I requested not to have them there. 4 different people had to put their hands «inside me» to check my progress. Where the hell was the FIRST LADY?!
1. They had me push at Stage 1 even after I was told to push at Stage 2. COMPLETE LACK OF COMMUNICATION.
2. Med student ripped me top to bottom because she had her hand inside me PUSHING DOWN. Not massaging the area. While my baby exited the vagina. What a moron!
3. They sewed me up wrong and I can not pee or even touch my clit with out having shooting pains (5 weeks LATER) still in pain.
4. Postpartum rooms looked like a cheap dirty motel on the side of a road in bumble.
5. Nursing staff was non existent when you needed something. When I asked for something they never came back to the room with my request. So, my fiancé had to ask them 3 more times. They had no excuse. The floor was EMPTY and their desk was next to my room.
6. I was never given a lactation consultant. She stumbled into my room by accident, but she didn’t have time to go over anything with me. HELLO! I said I was breastfeeding my child!!! This is my first born! I needed to speak to a lactation constant.
7. They gave my BREASTFED SON A PACIFIER. You don’t do that!!! Especially if there are LATCHING ISSUES! Bunch of idiots.
8. They didn’t put vaseline on my sons circumcision. So, when we brought him home we had a blood soaked gauze stuck to his penis. Even soaking the area with water did not help to remove it. WE HAD TO PULL IT OFF. Which set us back in the healing process since it REMOVED SKIN!!! Morons!!!
9. They never gave me instructions on how to properly maintain and clean my nether region so the sutures wouldn’t dry out. So on and so on and so on.
Absolutely ridiculous. I’m furious I was even told to go here by my OBGYN. They should be embarrassed. I can understand why government assistance people go here. But for heavens sake WE HAVE REAL INSURANCE
… WE ARE NOT ON FOOD STAMPS!!! Although they asked every time someone came in the room. NO. I’m not on WIC!!! That should have been my first red flag.
The list goes on and on. But at this point I’m just looking for a lawyer to see how I can justify the pain I’ll be in for the rest of my life.

Biggest waste of space on the planet. 45 minute outpatient surgery that was $ 60k. Avoid this place like the plague.

Charged me $ 7,000+ for an ER visit where they did nothing but monitor my heart rate, give me a blood test, and an IV of fluids. No CT scan, not even an Xray. The only good thing? I was in and out in less than 2 hours. If you can, go somewhere else.

I wish I could give this place no stars. I had a horrible kidney infection (Just for the record I was a Temple student and my parents were spending 20k a year on insurance) – They treated me like I was some type of bum or drug addict. They would not give me any meds for the excruciating pain, Didn’t give me any antibiotics –decided to give me Benedryl and send me home, with a horrible fever and still in pain… The F? So I go home and I started urinating blood, and my eyes were turning yellow. The pain was sooo unbearable that I went back to the hospital the next day, I was waiting in an empty waiting room for 4 hours… my mom, grandma and aunt were on their way. I finally get into the triage room and i hear the security guard yelling «DONT WORRY ABOUT WHERE SHES AT! SHES IN HERE SO WHAT?”– then i heard my mom say «I just wanna know where she’s at! Thats all!», So I try to walk out the triage room and a 4 ft tall nurse tried to stop me from leaving with an IV thing in m my arm.
& Thats when the action began…
So I go out into the lobby (infected Kidney and all) the security guard is yelling in my moms face so I got in his face and he looked like he was gonna hit me… We ended up getting into a big Verbal Blow up and I threatened him…
I reported him to the doctor and the rest of the time I was treated nicely– especially when they found out my mom was a nurse
But my reason for giving one star was they ignore my symptoms and my past problems with my kidney and didn’t give me proper treatment the first day… then I had to come back a second day– get into a fight, then get the proper treatment only after complaining about my prior treatment.
the second doctor told me if I would have waited another 24 hours my kidneys would have shut down… Like People die ery day in there b.
sooo just save your own life and go to Temple University Hospital, or UPENN hospital.

I am 35 weeks pregnant with my first baby and have been under the care of an excellent midwife through Drexel Medicine which is located on the 4^th floor of Hahnemann. Unfortunately, my insurance indicates that my ultrasounds had to be done on the 3^rd floor which is Hahnemann’s Radiology Department.
I’ve had two there and hope I never have to go back. I will refuse and drive out of my way to go elsewhere. The front desk staff and registration personnel were helpful. But, the rest of both experiences (especially the second) was pretty terrible and disappointing.
My midwife requested an ultrasound at 33 weeks just to check on the growth of the baby (nothing crazy or abnormal as my pregnancy has been uncomplicated with no concerns). The staff were backed up about 30 – 45 minutes and the appointment was chaotic from the start. The room was big and cold with flickering lights and my husband initially wasn’t allowed in for whatever reason (although he had been allowed the last time). My requests were blown off and the two technicians kept questioning why I was there. It felt more like an interrogation and they continued to speculate what was wrong with me and question me about all kinds of abnormalities which completely threw me off guard. The words ‘ER’ came out of one’s mouth but her communication skills and bedside manner were so poor that I had no idea what was going on or what prompted the comment.
At one point, I became so overwhelmed and confused that I began to tear up which totally sucks and is embarrassing. I wasn’t offered a tissue or anything (which I needed!). I mentioned feeling stressed but again, it was not acknowledged at all. Towards the end of the appointment, the one tech told me she should do a physical exam before I left (I won’t say for what or why) which was completely unnecessary and out of her role. I shut that down and, freaking out, went upstairs to my midwife who kindly offered reassurance that everything was fine.
The other staff and departments at Hahnemann have been fine so far. However, the Radiology Department is exactly what a patient does NOT want when under the care of medical professionals. Also, for anyone who’s wondering, this wasn’t a pregnant lady meltdown. My very calm, cool, collected husband was even pretty upset and that is rare.

I have realized after living in Philadelphia for 1 year, that healthcare is not really intended for «new comers». If I can give anyone a bit of advice, AS SOON AS you decide to move to Philadelphia, the first thing you should do upon arrival, is make an appointment with a good clinic. You will have to wait for 3 months for that first appointment, but then you will not be on «new patient» status and when you do get the flu or something that needs immediate attention (but that is not an emergency), you will be seen immediately instead of being told that there is a 3 month wait for new patients hence being given the only option of going to an ER.
The above is what happened to me and that is why I ended up at Hahnemann University Hospital.
Pluses: –People were friendly and seemed to genuinely care.
Minuses: –I waited for 8 hours to be seen.
–In the end, they did not even check me or give me anything related to the flu. Instead they did a papsmear because I was complaining about vomiting and diarrhea? I was not sure why that needed a papsmear.
–They also tried to push me to do a CAT scan. Again, not sure why, but I did say no to the CAT Scan.
–I have insurance but still ended up with a $ 1500 bill
–Two weeks after paying the bill in full, I got a letter that stated if I paid he bill in full by October 15^th, 2013, then I would receive a 15% discount; however, «this offer does not apply if you send payment of the full balance rather than the discounted balance. There will be no refunds issued on paid amounts…»
Why send me this letter after I have already paid the balance in full. What a bunch of JERKS!!!

I have come here for out-​patient and an overnight stay surgery. Both times have been great. Not that surgery is any fun… But. I have only good things to say about the staff.
From the time we checked in until the time I was wheeled out, the staff was very friendly and treated me like a person not another procedure. The nurses checking my and my husband in where quick and friendly. Even humorous at 5 am. They made me feel comfortable and welcome. The surgeon was very informative, concerned and checking in on my multiple times before heading into his other office.
The nurses covering my room where very helpful as well. I hate hospitals, medical procedures and boredom. They were always quick with any requests or concerns. Making me feel very comfortable and being as polite as possible when checking in every hour for testing and check-​ins. They signed me out on time and made sure that transport out of the hospital was on time and quick. Overall, I would go back to this hospital. I have no complaints except for the fact that I hate hospitals in general. :)
Also, they have cheesesteaks and water ice on the menu for lunch. Yeah. It’s not Pat’s. But. It makes the stay a little bitt nicer.

Doctors are good but the service is horrible. I went to many hospitals in my life but this one is the worst ! They don’t understand anything when you make an appointment, they charge you for not being there even when you cancel by phone the week before, they mail invoices they don’t know for which reason and nobody can explain where it comes from. They also say sometimes «we will call back» but finally they don’t do it. Spent hours by phone for nothing.

The ’ same day surgery’ staff is excellent. Everyone was so friendly, professional and respectful. All the folks there are a solid 5 star !
Our problems started when my wife was sent to the 19 floor for an overnight stay.
She was placed in a room with a patient with ‘dementia’ — nonstop crying, whining and repeating ’ I’m not crazy i want to go home’.
It was sad, we felt bad for her.
Yet, my wife deserved some peace — she just had throat surgery.
Sleep was impossible.
This was avoidable. The staff said there was another room, and promised to move her, but did not. They seemed very unconcerned.
Care there was not like the 3^rd floor !

A friend was here for a week in the ICU. During this time, the staff (doctors, nurses, and technicians alike) were incredibly supportive and extremely friendly. Even the security guards are capable and friendly.
The waiting areas could be more comfortable for family and friends and the TVs seem a bit dated. But on the patient floors, each bed gets its own individual TV set which is a nice touch.
The lack of a 24 hour cafeteria is unfortunate, but overall, we’re here for the healthcare, which is pretty great. Penn and even Jefferson may be more well known, but Hahnemann gets it done as well.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of care that my injured coworker received here. Quick service in a clean facility, check. Helpful, friendly doctors, check. Cost, well, that remains to be seen, so check back to see the final verdict on this hospital.

This place seriously sucks. All the nurses are rude and stupid. They can’t read my healthcare plan and realize I don’t need a referral.

Had my first ER trip to this hospital today and was pretty impressed with everything.
The nurses are fantastic (especially Melinda), really caring and funny and supportive. I saw 2 Dr’s and while I didn’t care for the younger one at all, the head ER doctor who came in to see me was wonderful. I had to get a chest x-​ray and it was a quick and easy process.
My only real complaint was the security guard at the front. Blocked us as soon as we came in the door like we were criminals then the next people that came in blew right past him and he just half heartedly tried to say something to them and then just stood in the door looking lost. Also, when it’s 15* outside, shut the damn door and turn your space heater back on.

This is a comment on my 88 year old mom’s admission after a pneumonia diagnosis in the Hahnemann ER.
Let me first say I feel sorry for the very caring nurses and doctors who work here. Unfortunately, the support staff, who are represent the service core, are a mixed bag. Most are sincere and dedicated. But it only takes a few to leave a nasty impression.
One overnight tech removed an IV and did not follow up when bleeding was reported. (Supposedly it was shift change.) My traumatized and exhausted mother was left in blood soaked gown and sheets through the night.
There were also problems with poor one time only instruction, getting bathroom assistance and even coordinating home delivery of oxygen at release. Calls are ignored, paperwork gets lost and service coordination with follow up providers is inconsistent.
To my friends and associates — Never use Hahnemann — all the smiling ads cannot make up for lacking continuity of care, ineffective staff communication and a worn out facility. I know all these wonderful doctors and nurses can find better positions.

I’m a graduate student here, and there are many different facets to this building. I’ve been happy with the service here, buy some of the facades are painted brick, which is kind of depressing. Patient areas are somewhat nice and inviting, as I have had a few procedures done here. The staff is great, they are efficient and effective in the execution of their jobs.
