Exit Skate Shop

The staff here was great. I walked in and said’ «I have ten minutes and I need a cheap board.» They hooked me up with a sweet new setup for $ 125 and he said they could have done it cheaper if I hadn’t requested a few extras (bones reds bearings, spitfire wheels, etc.-but some things will never change). I got an awesome deck for $ 40 because they recently had a gallery for an artist and they had a bunch of decks left over and put them on sale (down from $ 50 or $ 60-​I can’t remember). They provided a huge selection of products for the board itself and a ton of apparel-​I have to find some time to go back and check it out when I’m not so tight on time. They had everything from shoes to board shirts and they didn’t have any shortages. I am excited to return and buy anything and everything I could ever need to skate. Congrats on becoming my new fav skate store, Exit!
(Just a heads up-​if you go looking, the street entrance is tiny and really blends in-​look for a diamond plate aluminum box with exit written on it sticking out of a wall)

The dudes that work are great guys. They help me through the whole process of buying a new skateboard and even gave some free coconut water and set up my new board so i could ride out on it. The store it self has a fantastic selection of skater shoes and clothing. I will definitely be going back there to buy some new clothing. If you go there to buy a board i recommend buying their store brand board, i got it and i love it. Even though on the Unilocal page it says that Exit is not open on Sunday it is, from 12pm to 5pm. My only gripe with the place is that the store front is a bit discrete making it a bit hard to find, but if you see a couple of skaters hanging around you know you’ve found the place. Despite this minor issue make sure you go down to Exit and support the guys that run it, you wouldn’t regret it.

I am jealous as hell of Steve and this shop. I used to own a skateshop for four years, and I miss it terribly. Steve runs his shop the way a skateshop should be run — videos playing, warm, friendly environment, the best brands and great selection of hard and softgoods, people who live/​breathe skateboarding.
If I ever go back in the skate business again, I’ll do it with one place in mind — Exit. They run their place right.

OK, I’m not a skater so my opinion is probably not worth much, but then again you’re not paying me anything, so it all works out. I had to buy a Christmas present for a skater, which prompted me to visit all the skate shops in Philly and that really ended up being two, since all the rest seem to have gone out of business (first piece of advice: call to confirm existence). Of the two skater shops I visited – Exit and Nocturnal – Exit appeared to be bigger and better stocked and maybe a tad friendlier and more professional, though both were pretty friendly and both clearly knew their way around skateboard/​culture. Exit didn’t feel quite as insiderish – ie, Exit had customers; Nocturnal had skaters hanging around talking shop.
