E’TAE Natural Products

I’ve been to the salon twice now and both times my hair came out very nice and lasted more than a week. Very soft and full. On my second visit, I went on a weekday which was great because I was in and out of there and parking was a breeze. However, if I could make one suggestion, it would be regarding the music played when clients are there. I believe the girls washing hair are interns and they are on the younger side. Now I am not a «woman of a certain age» yet, I’m 29 and enjoy the occasional trap songs that are catchy while I’m in my car, but it’s not the best idea to have that blasting in the salon while your trying to enjoy getting your hair done at 9:30am. When one of the younger girls left the shop for a few minutes, my stylist went over and changed the music to some 90’s R&B and I was relieved and thanked her. I could see it was bothering other woman in the salon also and then they just put their earbuds in and then you lose that communication with your client that helps build lasting relationships and business. All in all, I’m excited for the new shop to open and will go back.

This was my first time trying this salon and I LOVED IT! I have tried many salons and my hair has always smelled like the burnt flat iron and my hair would always feel FRIED! But at E’tae salon the shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel fresh, super clean, and soft. And now my hair is super flowy, bouncy, and smells soooo good! The overall salon is small and quiet which was a major plus. It’s a little pricey but totally worth the price!

I haven’t had a relaxer in 5 years and I wish I would have known about this place throughout my transition. I couldn’t had asked for a better experience and my hair feels and looks awesome. I had my hair washed, conditioned and flat ironed by Quan. Long story short, my hair is beautiful, but if you want to read on please continue :)
I went on an «off» day during inclement weather so I wouldn’t have a long wait. My experience was perfect!
Price-​slightly above average but worth it
Parking-​Be careful since it is on Germantown Ave. and there is only short term parking. There is residential parking close by.
Location– Nice area but you may miss the shop if you don’t have the address handy.
PS– I didn’t get the caramel treatment since I do them at home.

Best hair salon I’ve been to. I was nervous but I can tell that my hair is healthy and it’s been done so pretty.

I am very pleased with this salon. So pleased I wanted to do a follow up review since my last one. Lemme just say this: THE BOMB! Since making ETAE my regular salon, my hair is doing much better. Thicker, longer, just flowing in the wind gorgeous. I’ve been visiting once a month for a wash and a press out with the flat iron. In between visits, At home I just wash and deep condition with their products and I’m out the door. A great salon for any naturalista.

I heard good reviews about this salon so I made a last minute appointment, then I read the reviews on Unilocal,which were mostly bad and started to get nervous but decided to go ahead with my salon visit despite my misgivings. I must say I am very please with the outcome. At first i thought that i was being ignored for other customers but realized i was wrong and the customers who were finished before me didnt not get the Carmel treatment, which is time consuming. Be warned that if you get the Carmel treatment you will be in the salon for a few hours as the Carmel treatment is left in the hair for about an hour, but it is worth the wait. Those young ladies really worked diligently on my hair which was needed due to residue left in my hair from a previous quick wash and go and would not come out. When my hair was finished it was straight and bouncy. I do want to say I read in other reviews that extreme heat is used on the hair and that due to this it was suggested other customers who went to the salon experienced heat damage. Although a lot of heat was used on my hair I didn’t not experience heat damage at all and waited until after I washed my hair to give a review. My hair went back to its curly state with ease.

It pains me to write this. Seriously. I had such high expectations and wanted to love this place. I really did. I wanted to proudly support a black woman and her business. But honestly, I just can’t. I’ll buy her products but her salon can’t get my business.
I scheduled a 12:30 appointment for today and got here at 12. I had things to do and needed to be done in a reasonable time. Coming in midday on a Friday shouldn’t be that hard to get it done right? WRONG. To give the short of it all, I waited until 1:30 and had to reschedule for 7pm and left because NO ONE EVEN WASHED MY HAIR. It wasn’t that busy! STILL giving the benefit of doubt, I arrived at 6:30. I left at 9:30. Know why? Bc the owner’s family came in and as I sat waiting for someone to curl my washed and blow dried hair for another 45 min, she had her cousin washed and blow dried and then asked her into her chair as she made me wait for the other stylist. Don’t get me wrong, Quan did an AMAZING job but if you come in to work, don’t pick and choose. Apparently the owner comes in sporadically to work, but it’s seems it’s strategically arranged so she is there for specific clients. As someone that brags about loving to style, it throws me that she’s so picky about it. I get you have specific client but it looks really bad when I’ve been there since 6:30 and they walk in at 8 and get finished before I do.
As far as the styling of Quan, I give 5 stars. She’s really good. And she’s sweet too. But the lack of professionalism gives it two. I won’t be back.

I drove all the way from Baltimore to go here and it was worth it! Everyone in the salon was very friendly and welcoming. I got a Carmel treatment, wash, blow dry, curl, and trim. The ladies who washed and blow dried my hair did an amazing job. My stylist Quan did an excellent job on my hair also, it was shiny, bouncy, and full. I would definitely drive back to go again!

I just want to start by saying I’ve been using Etae products for years and I do love the Carmel treatment. I visited the salon because I wanted my hair done, mind you I haven’t worn my natural hair out in 2 years. Kirby was my stylist, when I sat in her chair she proceeded to do my hair. She complained almost the entire way through that her flat irons were broken and not working properly. When my hair was done it looked terrible! This salon visit was about $ 80, the very next day I had to wear my hair in a ponytail. I contacted the owner Keisha to tell her about my experience and the first thing he said to me was «Kirby is a good stylist and I don’t know the condition of your hair». Not one time did she apologize for my bad experience nor did she offer to take a look at my hair and maybe redo it. I will not be returing to her salon because of the unprofessional atmosphere and the way I was treated.

I’ve been calling the number list for this salon for the past month. Does anyone know if the salon is even still open? I have not received a return phone call even after leaving multiple messages and a message online on their site. Thanks for any help.

I recently visited this salon to get my hair straightened and trimmed (I am a black female who wears her hair in its natural state). So to get to the point:
I would definitely go back here. It’s a small salon, there was one person washing hair and the owner was the only one styling hair. Even then, they move quickly. I was in and out within 3 hours, which is astounding to me because my hair is longish and THICK… plus, I hadn’t gotten it straightened/​trimmed in about a year and a half so there was a lot of work to be done. I was expecting to be there for at least 5 hours, especially since I went in on a Friday.
She does sell her products in the salon and also uses them on her clients. I got the caramel treatment and my hair was ridiculously SOFT and SHINY. It stayed that way for days after and I got so many compliments on my hair. It was $ 12 for the treatment, which is a little pricey when you consider the fact that you could just purchase a bottle of the stuff and get way more for the price. Once I’m done using up the many hair products I have littering my bathroom, I’ll definitely go back to buy the caramel treatment.
The last time I got my hair straightened, I suffered from some damage because the woman who did my hair not only used a flat iron, but also used a pressing comb. I was adamant about not having a pressing comb touch my hair again and was relieved when I found out that this salon (well, at least the owner) only uses a flat iron. The true test came when I finally washed my hair and all of my little curls and coils came right back to life. I have to add that I’ve been reluctant about letting random people cut my hair. I had been trying to grow my hair out for years and it always stayed the same length… so I was worried that getting a trim here would turn into a hair cut. I was expecting to have to get about 1 to 1.5 inches cut off and was ready to get the hell up out of there if she tried to cut more. But luckily she is not one of those scissor-​happy stylists, she only cut about an inch… and MAN do my ends look and feel so much better.
I found the receptionist, wash girl, and owner to be pleasant and polite. Yeah the salon isn’t exactly high-​end and could use a little interior decorating but it is comfy.
Price-​wise, I paid close to $ 100 for a caramel treatment, blow-​dry, straightening, and trim. Without the caramel treatment and trim, I would have been in the mid 60’s so yes adding on services can be pricey but without the extra stuff, she is reasonably priced.
I don’t straighten my hair very often (maybe twice a year) but the next time I’m in the mood for straight hair, I will only go back here.

This review is for the «Carmel» deep conditioner, and for E’tae’s customer service. (I’ve never visited the salon).
I’d been an avid user of E’tae’s original hair care line since high school, and was BEYOND devastated to learn they’d discontinued it for a newer product line. E’tae’s carmel conditioner was the SOLE reason I could manage my hair (and IMO, the most important product of the original line). I gave the new line a try, and I’m sorry to say that it just didn’t cut it. My hair has been a dry, frizzy, uncooperative mess ever since.
Imagine my pleasant surprise when I discovered E’tae had reinstated their Carmel conditioner! I practically bolted to the phone to order in bulk! The woman who took my order was courteous, informative, and extremely professional. I needed the carmel for my birthday hair appointment, but couldn’t afford the express shipping. I don’t know what miracle that woman worked, but my carmel is here in time for my appointment, AND she saved me money on express shipping! I’d give her a thousand stars for that!
Buy the carmel! Use it often! Your hair will thank you for it!

I went to E’tae a year ago for my yearly straightening session. I was lured there by all the good things I’d heard about their product line.
When I first arrived, I was disappointed to see that all of the stylists except one had their hair tied up in scarves — EXTREMELY unprofessional AND tacky! I was taken to the back of the basement room to get my hair combed out and washed. This is probably when I should have gotten up and left. The shampoo girl asked me to comb out my own hair before she would wash it! Now, I do have a decently thick head of natural hair that could be daunting to an inexperienced shampoo girl, but there’s no excuse for me being asked to perform services on myself! Apparently, I was out of my mind because I obliged her request. After I finished, the shampoo girl put my hair in sections and took me to the wash bowl. Some VERY herbal-​smelling liquids were poured over my head and massaged into my scalp. Rinse. Repeat.
I was then transferred in a chair to get my hair blow dried. The stylist who was going to be straightening my hair came over and started in on my head. She started out nicely, asking me how I cared for my hair, what products I used, etc. I thought this was just a friendly convo, but I was DEAD WRONG! She immediately began attacking everything I chose to do to my hair, telling me that my hair was badly damaged, and I had NO CLUE what I was doing and only experts, like her, ever have any business laying hands upon my head. See, now I was pissed because I have educated myself pretty well on hair care since I very rarely frequent salons and I knew for a FACT that my hair was nowhere near damaged!
So, a rather loud war of words ensued, which resulted in me calmly getting up, ripping off my cape, and heading toward the door. I was accosted by the receptionist and another stylist before I could reach the stairs. They insisted I had to pay for the services I’d received before I left. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out what those services could have possibly been. I emphatically told them I would NOT be paying for ANYTHING, but still they insisted. I asked to speak to the owner. The stylist who had insulted my mane sprinted up the stairs (I guess so she could tell her side). She returned shortly, stating that the owner would not speak to me and requested that I leave immediately. I gladly obliged and did not look back.
I beg of you ladies, DO NOT go to E’tae! Unless you get off on being completely disrespected, if that’s the case — definitely go!

My rating is a little lower here mainly because the stylist that I had did not listen to what I asked for and cut more hair than I anticipated but with the emotions of lost hair length out the rest of the review is as objective as can be.
I got the caramel treatment. I found that for my hair which is the type that you should apply a relaxer to every 4 months or so, this deep conditioner was a good treatment which seemed to nourish the roots of my hair and make it even more manageable. Your stylist will also use the old school ceramic curling irons that go into the ceramic oven and I find that if you use those things, with or without a perm, you are going to come out of it straight!!!
My hair was shinier than when I wash it and condition it with my other products but not more shiny than when I use my Chi iron and product. I also found that this treatment did not seem to last more than a few days before I needed to return to get the roots all smoothed out again… seemingly faster than previously experienced in my life.
I purchased the buttershine and the soy protein product that they also sell and have found them to be good on the hair. I will probably be a person who uses the Etae products but who continues to get relaxers and use Crème of nature as my shampoo without sulfates.
The salon itself is well staffed, clean, and the service is speedy… an accomplishment that many other salons in the area do not have yet mastered. Kudos. SO… the biggest recommendation that I can say is that you will want to be clear with your stylist and ensure that she will do what you are asking and not have a «holier than thou attitude» or the disposition that she will do whatever SHE feels you need because YOU do not know your own head!
Good products especially if you do not process your hair in any way. It is addictive as you will find that you need to return weekly to maintain the coiuffe. But then, isn’t E’tae just Eat –E backwards? A recommendation to all of us to increase out vitamin E intake as it helps the hair lots!!!

For all you African-American’s with natural hair out there. Salon E’tae has this amazing product called Caramel. It is an all-​natural treatment made from honey, olive oil and banana, among other things. This stuff infuses you hair with moisture and it helps your hair stay straighter longer or just have softer, frizz-​free curls. Girls with perms can also use it to extend the length between their touch ups. I know I sound like an infomercial right now, but this product is that amazing. Just try it. You will see what I mean.
