Rita’s who? Why on earth would anyone go to a factory produced(odd tasting) chain when you have a family owned place, making it homemade. Nothing has changed since I started coming here as a kid(watermelon water ice is the best, so is the birthday cake ice cream!) If you are heading down Frankford Ave and have a craving, drive past that chain on Cottman and head down to this gem on Torresdale.

Best water ice in the area. Rita’s has been taking over and its great to have a small privately owned water ice stand. Its homemade taste and reasonable price is well worth the trip.

Been coming here for years and always good quality water ice. Haven’t been in a while(since last year) and last time I tried they were closed. Stopped by last Fri. afternoon and had the best chocolate water ice I’ve ever had! Lots of chocolate flavor, smooth even consistency, not overly sweet. My only regret was I only got a small. Cannot even compare to Ritas(too sweet) or Johns in S. Philly(too bland) So if you want the best water ice in NE Philly look no further. Also if you’re in the mood for the best hoagie in town, Jacks Place is just around the corner. Jus’ sayin.

I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think there is anything out of the ordinary about this corner water ice stand in NE Philly other than the fact that I am currently reminiscing about my childhood and thinking about the places that distinctly pop into my brain. This is one of them! I grew up going here and in the weird summer months between me moving over to Jersey and visiting my relatives on the weekend in Philly; this was my last stop before heading over the bridge and was my first introduction to what many call the gelati and what few call the radio ball.
