I always thought that this place was just the back patio of Opa. I never knew it was it’s own bar. Though who knows, since you go inside to use the bathroom. I’ve come by here a few times, and we often stop by if the line at Time is too long. It can absolutely get crowded here, just like everything on this block, but the crowd is usually a pretty good one. Johnny N. described«a very 90s chill vibe complete with the music being played fro an old 90s boom box.» This is absolutely what has brought me back here multiple times. I love how the beer garden is nestled in between a bunch of tall buildings. If you look up, it almost looks like they are leaning over above you. They don’t usually have a ton on draught, but it’s not like it’s just miller lite. There are usually a couple of good options.

An outdoor bar where the entrance is through an alley(well you don’t have to but it avoids the lines and makes the experience much more interesting). Must say, it has a very 90s chill vibe complete with the music being played from an old 90s boom box. The beer selection will satisfy most after-work happy hour seeking individuals and the prices are very fair. Not much on tap and if you like their more exotic side of selection, you’ll get it in a can /bottle. There’s a fire pit, board games, jenga, a friendly staff and a good crowd. It’s a great place to start off the evening and has the relaxing atmosphere to end it as well.

My friends and I enjoyed our visit to this beer garden. I wouldn’t exactly call it the best one in the city, but it’s small one that is «off-the-beaten-trail», if you will, which to me gave off a laid-back kind of atmosphere. They had a few table games. My friends and I were amused for awhile playing those. We also very much enjoyed some of the illustrations and words of wisdom that others had scrawled on the Jenga tiles. My friends were also delighted by the $ 3 big cans of PBR. They had pretty good drink specials at the time we went. The bartender was friendly and always served us quickly. Although I do wish they had a little more of a beer selection. Overall, it was a cute beer garden. If you’re looking for laid-back place to go grab a drink or two on a spring or fall afternoon, I would suggest it, but only if your group isn’t excessively large.

In comparison to all of the other amazing beer gardens in Philly, I’d say Drury falls short. It’s small, in a dumpy alley(without the charm of McGillin’s), and slow/unfriendly service. I don’t mind stopping in for happy hour, given that I work nearby, but it’s not somewhere I’d go out of my way to spend a night out. They have a decent beer selection and it’s relatively cheap but I can’t speak for the food(though, I’ve checked out the menu and there aren’t many options). If you’re in the area and looking for somewhere to have a drink outdoors, I’d recommend heading a couple blocks down to Graffitti Bar!

Stuck in the back«patio» of a restaurant(Opa) this uninviting area had only six beers on tap. It was hard to hear over the hum of A/C condensers and tinny music blasting out of a $ 8 boom box. Uncomfortable seats and wobbly tables. Hate to say it but we have had better ambiance in friends back yards. :/

This beer garden is the backyard of Opa restaurant(shares the same restrooms). When we arrived, I was surprised by how small and cramped it was. It was extremely crowded we had to nudge our way to the bar. There weren’t many benches because this place was really that small. Beer here isn’t expensive, which is always a plus. Once you settle down and take some time to soak in the location and decors, it’s actually quite unique. It’s conveniently located in the back alley of some tall buildings so the atmosphere is different. They also decorated the place with hanging lights to give it a more homely and uplifting feel. This is definitely a spot to start the night with some loud conversations while knocking back a few beers, but probably not the place to end the night. Probably not my choice of beer gardens in the city. Independence offers more game variety, and Frankford Hall is still king.

Given the location, I think they’ve done a really great job with this space. Like other reviewers here have mentioned, it’s located behind Opa in the alley where the garbage gets picked up. In terms of the nose, not the most pleasant. However, they’ve added white tents and string lights to make the place more enjoyable. SIDENOTE: you don’t have to go through Opa to get in, although you will be able to skip a line if there is one at the back entrance. I think my favorite thing about this place is the Connect 4, Jenga, and the Ping Pong table(might be gone to open up some more space). If you’re out and want to enjoy the nice weather and do something different than the typical bar scene, this is a great place to do that. I like to think of it as a place to start the night and then you can check out the other places in the area.

Real chill spot with connect 4 and jenga. Have to go through Opa to get there, however very chill vibe and bartenders are absolutely gracious! Would defin go again!

In a city full of beer gardens, Drury Beer Garden isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing of the bunch. It sits behind Opa with a gorgeous view of a fence and some dilapidated looking high-rises. Once you get past the looks, it’s a pretty chill spot. My group stopped by there recently after Sips ended. At first glance we thought it was just going to be Sips crowds all over again. Then we found a large, round cushion seat towards the west end of the bar and got comfy. We had a decent amount of space to ourselves and a place to sit down. That’s good by me. The beer list wasn’t overly impressive with rarities, but they got overall variety covered. There’s definitely something for everyone. The prices were also pretty reasonable. Most drafts and bottles ran about $ 5 or $ 6. I didn’t have anything to eat, but noticed the menu was more of a grill-out style food. That’s a little disappointing considering Mediterranean cuisine is so close. I wonder if there’s any flexibility with ordering from Opa? In any case, I don’t see Drury Beer as a destination beer garden but definitely as a cool place to stop by for an outdoor drink.

I both like and dislike this beer garden at the same time. My wallflower-self is a big fan of the place… but only when it’s not packed to the gills with the bros. When it is a squishfest of Axe, I’m always ready to find a reason to move along. Good craft beers here so it’s usually up to the scene of the day for how this space shapes up. I’d probably pick another beer garden over this place if given the choice, but it’s still a great option for outdoor drinking in Center City.

Beer garden behind Opa. Fun place to sit outside, have beer, enjoy good company and place some connect four. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too crazy packed(which was nice). I would definitely good back.

Could definitely benefit from more space, but beer selection is decent and not the worst place to kill an hour or so on a warm weekend afternoon.

Pretty much the perfect summer bar if you’re up for relaxing and playing some games outside, especially on a Sunday Funday afternoon. Beer selection(as with most bars in the Philly area) is above average. Particularly notable is the canned beer selection, keeping in theme with the courtyard/backyard bbq theme. The courtyard is a nice place if you get a good seat and can remove yourself from the laser beams of sun that fill whole swaths of the beer garden — choose your seat wisely based on your desired level of exposure! We had great fun here, playing Connect 4 and Jenga. Downside is that if it’s crowded, it’s probably not very fun standing outside without access to the bar. A great place if you have the right timing.

Stopped by for a few beers during the afternoon. It is a small courtyard but has some charm to it. For beer I had the Blanche De Bruxelles(can), I like that beer. I usually don’t like beers-in-a-can but lately it has been my thing. We snacked on a Hummus and Eggplant platter with Pita and vegetables, it was very good. We also had the Grilled Octopus, that was fantastic! The bartender was chill. The prices were reasonable. We will return to the Drury Beer Garden.

Nothing special. I haven’t been, but apparently it’s just a wannabe Frankford Hall. Called ahead to ask if they had happy hour, but only upon arrival did they tell us that happy hour prices are only inside Opa, not the beer garden. Pricing was quite expensive especially since we were expecting happy hour prices. I actually can’t drink because of health reasons, so I was excited to see the Jenga and Connect 4 sets to play games with my party, but the Jenga set was incomplete and hard to set up/clean up. Maybe invest in a couple of new sets?

It’s been said that 2014 is the year of the Beer Garden here in Philadelphia. And while some are newcomers to the scene, popping up for the summer or even less, Drury Beer Garden has been around for a while. The folks at Drury know what works, and they’ve mastered the art of outdoor drinking for the masses. Sure, on a nice night, you may be sharing the space with your friends and about 60 «friends you haven’t met yet». You might need to get a little aggressive at the bar, but everyone understands throwing a few ‘bows in order to get your day-drink on… Cans, bottles, and draft beers are my preference. I know they have some sangria options, but a few too many episodes of «Bar Rescue» have me wary of boozy beverages that are left in plastic containers all day. Luckily, I found easy distraction from remembering the wise words of Jon Taffer in their gyro, chock-full of juicy meat and fresh vegetables. The pita was soft as a cloud, and I couldn’t get enough. Jenga(I mean… jumbling tower, Jenga’s questionable little brother) is available at an assortment of tables, and there are retractable umbrellas for when the sun is burning too brightly. The bartenders move quick, so don’t let the lines turn you off. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere can’t be beat, and as long as the weather cooperates, I’ll be hitting up Drury all season long.

So I did not take the normal route to this bar(which would just be to go through Opa) and instead walked down a narrow, dark, and wet alleyway. But my initial apprehensions melted away when I got inside. First of all, the place has Jenga and ping pong, which made the childish side of me very gleeful. Plus, there is this great retro boombox set up that plays all of the music(which was surprisingly loud). There are big comfy chairs and picnic tables to sit at, although these were packed by the time I rolled in. Getting a beer at the bar wasn’t too difficult(given the crowd and the noise), and they had a decent craft list as well, although much of it was bottled. I loved the atmosphere here and can’t wait to return, even if it was packed to the gills so that you couldn’t move(and apparently you can’t sit on the ping pong table, fyi. The bouncers will beeline over).

My friend took me to Drury beer garden for my first time last year, and I keep coming back now all the time! Nothing better than drinking outside in the nice weather, with fun games! Jenga, connect four, ping pong, yes! Good selection of craft beers for a tiny outside bar that can’t make many drinks. They always have good prices on a few select beers. They make a beer mixed drink that’s like a mojito but with beer in it, refreshing! They also have sangria sometimes. Its hard to find this place, which is another thing I love about it! Its tiny, tucked back in a smelly dumpster alley next to McGillians. Awesome. Its attached to the back of Opa, if you’d rather seek it out that way. However, I heard a rumor they are expanding, and remodeling, so I’m nervous it will double in size and become more popular. Hopefully they keep the same cool vibe if that is true. Fun spot here!

Had a lot of fun here on Friday night. although it was really busy given the pleasant weather. They have an array of beers to choose from, but not TOO many where you have literally no idea where to start. Cans, bottles, and drafts $ 4 – 6. You do have to go down some sketch alley on the right entrance of Opa but other than that, I enjoyed the string lights, Jenga, everyone mingling in large groups of friends feel. And head to Opa right after! Or Bru! Or McGillans!
