I have been going to DOTS for many years and am always satisfied with the service and results. The practice appropriately schedules appointments so there is rarely (if ever) a wait to be seen. I have received equally good service under emergency circumstances. Dr. Miller is very experienced and knowledgeable, and he always has an interesting story to share. I have also seen Dr. Rao and Dr. Bui, and they are professional and pleasant. The hygienist does an excellent job with a courteous and helpful demeanor. In my view, Linda is the glue that holds DOTS together (no offense to anyone there), and I enjoy our chats during my visits. Everyone certainly does their utmost to make my experience a painless one. I highly recommend DOTS.

Dr. Rao and staff offer highly professional services which cover everything from basic examination and cleaning to dental ifmplants and crowns. The office offers helpful reminders of appointments; wait times are minimal; staff are friendly and competent;and procedures are carefully explained. I have faced a range of dental problems and have complete confidence in Dr. Rao and his staff in my treatment.

I’ve been a patient here for a few years now and I love it. Having both my regular checkups done as well as my wisdom teeth pulled at this office, I’d definitely recommend this office to anyone in the Center City area. However, while the office and service are both great, there’s never anyone at the front desk when I arrive for my appointments (usually in the mornings between 9am and 11am). There isn’t even a bell or anything to let them know that someone is waiting in the reception area, which can lead to me (or anyone else) sitting alone for several minutes (until someone finally wanders back up front). Perhaps this is just an early-​in-​the-​day habit since not very many people seem to come in for appointments around this time, so it’s a little more lax. I wouldn’t mind a delay of a few minutes as much but when I’m on time for my appointment but left waiting to be seen for fifteen or twenty minutes after my appointment time, it makes me feel as though my time isn’t valued. As others have stated, the staff is wonderful and quite friendly, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that, as I’m writing this review, I’m still waiting to be seen for my 9:30am appointment (it’s 9:54am). I really hope the timeliness of the office improves in the near future.

I’ve been to a few dentists in Philly, but my co-​worker referred me here. The staff here does great work and they are kind and courteous like health care professionals should be. They always make me feel very comfortable and make recommendations for my personal dental routine. They discuss procedures with you ahead of time so you know what to expect. They also make sure to check your insurance coverage so you don’t get charged for anything you don’t want or need which is very helpful. The staff also appears very happy to work there and they stay which is reassuring. The view from the chair is also a plus!
Advice: Be on time for your appointment because the front desk is not very friendly when you’re late (and rightfully so).

My office visits here are always quick. That is not to say that friendliness and quality are sacrificed for efficiency. They are so nice, work easily with your schedule, and do great work with your teeth! I would highly recommend this dentist to anybody!

I love my D.O.T.S lot! I’ve been going to Dr. Rao for over 8 years. He and his staff are just lovely people, and all very professional. Every visit really is like visiting friends. Dr. Rao is extremely thorough, honest, and personable. He is diligent in monitoring every development in my dental health that comes along, from root canals to crowns, to chips (Irish teeth; what can I say?). I have recommended his to several friends and co-​workers, and will do the same every time someone asks me for a referral.

Dentist on the square is truly amazing! The staff members are friendly, welcoming, and resourceful. Keep up the great work!

This was my first visit to DOTS. Although I had problems setting up the initial appointment, and was giving serious consideration to finding another dentist I am glad that I kept the appointment. I was very pleased with everyone I had contact with during my visit. Everyone was friendly, explained all the procedures and was very professional. My previous dentist, to whom I had gone for years, retired and she recommended Dr. Rao.

Dr. Rao has been my dentist for over five years now, maybe seven? and I am very happy with him and his office. I get both general cleanings and just finished my stint with Invisalign. He is generally cheery, and yes, forthright about your mouth whether it’s good news or not. His assistants are very kind (except for one who was pretty abrupt that they got rid of) and do good, thorough work. The office is quiet, with maybe not the best music selections, but friendly, and they are very prompt. I’ve never had to wait more than five minutes for an appointment. I will keep going as long as he’s in business and would highly recommend him!

I’ve been to my fair share of dentists in my life, and was sick of ones where the staff fancied themselves in some kind of competition for Sadists of the Year. Like any earthling, ten minutes in a waiting room at the dentist’s office seems like an eternity to me. The vapid magazines are just the tip of the iceberg (who the hell really reads People or Harper’s anyway?!), because when you add screaming kids to the equation, it just gets really bad. If you threw in a stairmaster, a karaōke machine, and some kind of sleazy happy hour, you’d have my full definition of hell!
Enter Dr. Rao. I’ve never once seen a child in his office. I like kids, my nephew is a blast, but I really don’t like kids at the dentist’s office. They make sounds worse than an orchestra of amateur bagpipe players! Dr. Rao’s office has NONE of that. My appointments with Dr. Rao — and I’m up to twenty or thirty appointments by now — have always been on time, or within a few minutes of on time. They have a flexible enough schedule so I don’t have to take a day off work. I can hit it first thing in the morning or last thing in the afternoon without a problem. I’m normally in and out in next to no time for a cleaning.
Now, let me tell you about my wife. My wife is oddly frightened by three things I can’t explain: nature, lawnmowers, and the dentist. She was terrified to go to the dentist! Soon after we were married, she informed me she hadn’t been in like, seven years, which is weird, because she’s always brushed her teeth regularly and takes more baths than I thought was humanly possible. I took her to Dr. Rao’s and she needed a lot of work. Apparently, the town she grew up in didn’t have fluoride in the water (yet the South claims it will rise again, right). She needed a lot of work done. She said that Dr. Rao is the only dentist she has ever been comfortable with, and all these years later, she’s still perfectly fine with going back.
It is also the only dentist’s office I’ve gone to where the music hasn’t made me want to poke out my own eyeballs. That’s worth the price of admission right there!

I take care of my teeth and frequently receive compliments on my smile. I went in to see Rao Anand and had a horrible experience. He was nasty, rude, and aggressive, his cleaning service was poorly performed (rushed incomplete, and rough) and he was demeaning the entirety of the appt. I hardly spoke because I was so mind boggled about how he treats his patients. I left tearful and upset. No dentist (or anyone for the matter) should treat someone so poorly. Rao said things like, «I don’t know what was in your teeth, I didn’t even bother to get it all», «You didn’t think your appointment would go like this did you». He clearly knew that I was uncomfortable with how he was speaking to me but did not bother to assure me or make me feel comfortable in his own practice. Rao pushed me to purchase an expensive electronic toothbrush. The front desk told me «once you register your product, you will get a 15% rebate». I registered my product and called customer service concerning the rebate application. Customer service stated, «Your dentist gave you false information. You do not qualify for a rebate». Following, I called the horrible dentist office back and shared with them this information and stated they are responsible. The office manager Melinda stated, «No we’re not. It’s not what we were told». Again, rude and unwelcoming staff with poor service standards. Rao stated I need mouth surgery. I am going for a second opinion and I am hoping I find a dentist that is warm, welcoming and kind. Discussing my experience with family and friends, they are just as mind boggled and stated they would have left within 5 minutes of the appointment. I called my insurance to report all the details and they also noted it in their system. This is my first time ever reviewing but people need to prepare themselves for Dental on the Square. Don’t go. Not worth it!

I had two wisdom teeth pulled this morning by Dr Braid. This was my first dental procedure in almost 15 years (with the exception of the assessment last week) He and his nurse both have an excellent bedside manner, they were both very kind and aware that I was nervous with none of the «What do you mean it’s been 15 years!?» judgement. He calmly explained my options and didn’t try to strong arm me into having more work done than was necessary today. I had two teeth out painlessly in about ten minutes. I gave four stars because I wasn’t really sure what I was walking into today (except that I knew that at least one tooth was definitely coming out). I didn’t know if I was receiving local or general anesthesia, so after an internet search I decided not to eat anything in case I would be put under. I only had local anesthesia, so I went in starving and anxious when I could have had a breakfast and been a little more calm. It’s a minor complaint really, but I would have been less anxious if I’d had more information. Dr Braid is the oral surgeon who works there twice a month, so I can’t comment on their daily staff (because I don’t know) but my experience with him was ideal. I will definitely see him again when I have my other two wisdom teeth pulled.

Poorly run office. Subpar service.
Received erroneous $ 145 bill because they ran insurance incorrectly. After four months and five phone calls to the dentist with no resolution, I got the insurance company on the phone with the office to verify coverage. I followed up with a call to the office to confirm everything was taken care of correctly. They claimed it was. Three weeks later I received a collection notice for the $ 145. The dentist has yet to respond to my phone call despite the outgoing message promising a call back within 24 hours. Nothing but hassle.

I called this office because it is near my home and they scheduled my appointment for the following week. I brought my retainer for adjustment and the dental hygienist cleaned them for me right away. The cleaning and exam were great and the dentist Dr. Rao was friendly and provided a gentle yet thorough exam. The whole process for this first time visit was about an hour and a half, including a brief wait time. My next cleaning is scheduled and I also scheduled an exam for my husband. Imagine my shock when reading the other less than stellar reviews! All I can say is my experience was great and I am an intensive care nurse who has relatively high standards when it comes to health care. Thank you Dr. Rao

This review is an update to my previous one star (more like zero stars) review. I’m in the process of trying to find a new dentist in Philadelphia, and after several recommendations from friends and colleagues, I found one. Dr. Rao’s office REFUSED to send them my records! They told me there would be a $ 50 charge to do so. WHAT A BUNCH OF CRIMINALS! Is this even legal? This office is so poorly run, I cannot imagine how they stay in business. Honestly, I’m considering taking legal action against them to release my documents. NEVER GO TO THIS DENTIST OFFICE! They will screw up your teeth and then when you try to find a new dentist, they will attempt to BULLY you out of more money.

My dental insurance recently changed, so it was time to find a dentist in Philly instead of venturing to Brooklyn for my appointments. The place was easy to make an appointment with, the front desk staff was friendly, and the place was clean. However, my experience with Dr. Rao left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Now, I’m not a poster dental patient by any means, but I think my sins come mostly from not flossing as often as I should, which, let’s be real, is true for many many people. After examining my mouth, Dr. Rao left the room for twenty minutes, and then came back and berated me, accusing me of never going to the dentist, and eating tons of candy (I go to the dentist twice a year… ok SOMETIMES once a year, shoot me and I eat a normal human amount of candy, not a lot, not none). He then went on to tell me I had gingivitis and that to prevent it from progressing and losing all my teeth, I needed to buy a bunch of products from his practice, amounting to about $ 200 worth of merchandise. Aside from needing a root canal (the toothache that brought me in), he also wanted to do a bunch of procedures that included replacing current fillings with crowns and inlays.
I went to the receptionist, miffed from the condescending way I was spoken to, and she then told me how much just the crown from the root canal would be. She was simultaneously trying to get me to buy a more expensive toothbrush than the one I was already purchasing out of sheer guilt and shame ($ 125 for the brush, $ 370 for the crown).
I just graduated college, so I’m not exactly rolling in it. After hearing what just one crown would cost me, I thought of the root canal, and the other crowns and inlays he wanted me to do. The sheer thought of what that would cost me (no less than $ 2,000 I’m sure) plus the embarrassment I felt from my interaction with me made me start crying in front of this poor receptionist. I consider myself a pretty sane, normal, emotionally functional human being, so I was pretty mortified finding myself crying at the dentist, but there I was.
I’m going back to finish the one crown after my root canal, but then I’m taking my business elsewhere. Another friend who went here and whose mouth is much better than mine got the same gum disease lecture and also got guilted into the toothbrush. Beware, this place is about milking as much money out of you as possible.

I would NEVER go back to this place. While the office is extremely clean and hygienic, the service was utterly horrific.
I originally went in for a cleaning, and came out of the place with swollen gums and in pain. Dr. Rao insisted on removing a crown from a past root canal to clean underneath it, and was so rough with that tooth that I ended up developing a very serious infection, which swelled into my face and neck. When I went back for an emergency appointment in very serious pain, the staff would not even let me see a dentist until I wrote them a check. Dr. Rao also denied any wrongdoing and essentially told me it was my problem, therefore it was my fault. They eventually referred me to a specialist for my problem, but now, two years later, I have to get that tooth removed after spending a fortune.
In addition to all of this, I was told by Dr. Rao that I «neglect» my teeth and that the condition of my mouth was poor. Dr. Rao had literally no bedside manner.
These dentists are criminals. Don’t be persuaded by their convenient office location, it’s not worth it.

I am pretty tolerant with pain and although I think they’re good dentists they do a very aggressive cleaning– the hygienist would say my teeth look good and then start scraping the crap out of them and then say ‘oh you do have some bleeding though’. That’s because you’re making it bleed! I wouldn’t say ‘ouch’ out loud but uncomfortable enough to not want to go back, especially from past, non-​painful experiences I have had previously with other dentists.
