History

Established in 1988.

Dr. Slobodinsky bought his current practice from Dr. Athur Klein in 1988, who had been practicing at the same location since 1949. Of course, he updated the office with modern equipment and furnishings to better represent the type of dentistry he was delivering to his patients.

Over the years, his dental practice continues to change with the times. Here you will find modern technology meshing with good, old-​fashioned service. As we like to say, we treat our patients like royalty.

Business Owner

Dr. David Slobodinsky graduated from Temple University Dental School in 1983. In 1988 he moved to his present location in Fabulous Fishtown, and has thoroughly enjoyed practicing quality, painless dentistry there for the last 22 years.

Dr. Slobodinsky is dedicated to continuous learning, having earned over 300 hours of post graduate education.

Dr. Slobodinsky is a member in good standing with The American Dental Association, The Pennsylvania Dental Association, The Philadelphia County Dental Society, The Academy of General Dentistry, Eastern Dental Society, and The Cosmetic Consortium of Philadelphia.

Dr. Slobodinsky is happily marrried to his dental school sweetheart, Charleen, who doubles as his part-​time hygienist. He has two sons, Mark and Brett, and two beautiful Shetland Sheep dogs named Ginger and Coco.

When he is not practicing dentistry, you might find him golfing, scuba diving, skiing, hiking or watching his son play baseball for his alma mater.

If I could give them more stars, I would! First of all, everyone in the office was extremely nice. I’ve always hated getting my teeth cleaned because it was painful and unpleasant. Not the case here — best cleaning I’ve ever had. Then, it turned out that I needed root canal. Dr. S said it would be painless, but I didn’t really believe him. Well, typing this review is causing me infinitely more physical pain than undergoing that root canal. It was truly painless! I am no longer an anti-​dentite!

I got an appt here for what I genuinely believed was going to be an ‘out of pocket’ nightmare. A double root canal, for those of you lucky enough to never have priced one, runs $ 2 – 2.5K, if the place is being reasonable. Most dentists are more than willing to do the procedure (even if not needed) and take your money, once you indicate a willingness to pay, and I certainly had.
Instead of taking my $$$ and Palin’ing my mouth with the old «Drill, Baby, Drill»… Dr. Slobodinsky ‘conservatively’ (pun intended) recommended I wait a few days on antibiotic therapy and thought both sides could resolve without intervention… and they did! I promised him on the spot I’d share this tale via a review. Sorry it took me a couple months.
If you’re looking for a nice, clean, down to earth, neighborhood dentist office who also won’t rob you– this is your spot.
Also worth noting: Another Unilocaler mentioned an insurance mishap. I had a very different experience and have to give his staff kudos. I have a mostly nonexistent terrible dental plan, but his office staff painstakingly helped me though figuring out what, if any money the insurance would be willing to cover down the road and how to go about recovering it. His staff’s patience on the phone the day prior to my appt, is how I ended up there in the first place. Cheers to them as well.

I’m not the one to write a reviews but this time I have to… After painful Sunday I called Monday AM to Dr. David Slobodinsky office, they were great and took me right away, everyone was very nice specially Dr. Slobodinsky. I was sooo scared to do a root canal but here I’m 7 hours later and not even 1 moment of pain. The first time I’ve had smooth experience at the dentist.

I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Dave almost 20 years ago and he’s been mine and my families dentist ever since. He’s been there for emergency care and for routine care and we have been highly satisfied through the years. His staff is friendly and on the top of their game. Stop waiting and get an appointment now. Your teeth will thank you.

I feel I’m in great hands at Dr. Slobodinsky’s office. He gives honest assessments of your dental health, practical treatment that accommodates both your physical and budgetary needs, and when he fixes a tooth it stays fixed. I had three wisdom teeth extractions early on in my tenure as a patient (though I’ve had more work since)… it was so smooth I didn’t even need nitrous, just some Novocaine. And his dental hygienist Denise is seriously the gentlest I’ve ever had. Cleaning is usually torture for me; she makes it not just bearable but (almost) pleasurable.

I’ll say right up front that the *actual dental care* my partner and I received at Dr. Slobodinsky’s was excellent. I do, however, want to encourage you to check and double check with your insurance company before going here. In a misguided effort to support a local business that was within walking distance of our house, we called and asked if Dr. Slobodinsky’s office took our insurance. Their answer was «yes.»
What they meant to say was «yes but we’re out of network so be prepared for some pretty significant charges.» Or, as you and I might put it, «no.»
While I take full responsibility for failing to do the additional legwork of checking with our insurance company ourselves (we have Guardian btw, one of the largest dental insurance companies in the country) I think it’s rather unconscionable that a doctor’s office would mislead customers in this way. So if you’ve done your homework and are 100% positive that Dr. Slobodinksy takes your insurance, I’d highly recommend him. But think twice before taking their word for it.

I highly recommend Dr, Slobodinsky! He is Professional, Knowledgeable, passionate about teeth and he will set you at ease. I was very unhappy with the look of my teeth and Dr. Slobodinsky, with his cosmetic genius, gave me exactly the smile I wanted!

I’ve got terrible teeth. So terrible that I hadn’t been to the dentist since I moved to Philly 5 years ago. I’d already had dozens of cavities and 3 root canals when I was 22.
Anyway, I’ve been to see Slobodinsky twice recently, for a root canal and a crown. All in all, it was the best overall dentist experience I’ve had. I liked my childhood dentist, but Slobodinsky seems to work a lot faster. I was a little nervous about my recent work, and he did an excellent job keeping me calm and reassuring me that he would give me more Novocaine if I needed it.
I am also very impressed by the scheduling stuff. Maybe all dentists have this now, I don’t know. I was able to request an appointment through an online form, and then all my appointments get confirmed via email and text. So very convenient…

His hygenist is the best — thorough and gentle!
I had excellent service by all in the office! The receptionist is awesome.
Slobodinsky is wonderful. He really cares about my comfort. He gets the work done efficiently — I wasn’t in the chair for hours. High quality work.
Highly recommend. Very good dentist. Really knows what he’s doing.
