Philadelphia favorite and native guitarist, David Joel of David Joel Guitar Studio offers comprehensive and experienced music lessons to students of all ages and skill levels. With over 40 years of playing experience, David Joel has a wide and colorful musical background to share with students. He has been a former instructor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Music as well as a Master’s Degree from the New England Conservatory.

David Joel, proprietor of David Joel Guitar Studio, provides a consistent curriculum to foster both musical proficiency and creativity, starting with the most basic elements and building up. David believes that the key for musical success is to learn the material in increments that is broken down for students in a manner that makes it easy to understand. History

Established in 1998.

I saw Yellow Submarine on an old black and white tv in November of 1972. The next day I bought Meet the Beatles on vinyl (when that was the medium on which music was purchased) and started taking guitar lessons two weeks later.

The sound of guitar and all great music (whether rock, jazz, blues classical, etc.) was (and still is) a life transforming experience — it expresses the human element of existence: creativity and communication!

I love playing, writing, performing and teaching music has been an outgrowth of that. Traveling throughout the states as well as internationally has yielded many musical experiences and understandings of which I’m fortunate to be able to share with my students. Helping a person express themselves through the guitar has been a joy for me. I learn from my students as they learn from me. What more could I ask from my profession?

Well known Philadelphia favorite and native, guitarist David Joel, has performed in Japan, Europe, and throughout Boston and Washington D.C. A wide ranging background, including 39 years of playing experience, a former Instructor at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA), a Master’s Degree from New England Conservatory (Boston, MA), and a Bachelor’s Degree from Berklee College of Music has yielded him the ability of performing and composing a large breadth of aesthetic musical styles. He performs regularly as a solo guitarist, with the David Joel Quartet and with various jazz, commercial and rock bands. A Philadelphia resident, he is the proprietor of the David Joel Guitar Studio (a music school), and director/​composer of The David Joel Quartet, a contemporary jazz-​fusion group.
