Crash Bang Boom is Philadelphia’s premier independant punk-​rock-​n-​roll shop. Men’s and Women’s clothing, shoes, boots, and accessories. Hair dye, spikes, studs, patches, jewelry, buttons, all kinds of cool stuff. Crash loves to support and be a part of the scene that surrounds us. We have even gotten away with throwing a live show in the store once and a while. Our favorite was when we had the Dead Milkmen play a secret show here on Mischief Night. Some of the lines we carry are Dogpile, Serious, Lip Service, Hell Bunny, Sour Puss, Lucky 13, and a full line of our own brand name products. If you can’t make it to Philly you can shop online.

History

Established in 2005.

Crash Bang Boom opened it’s doors in July of 2005. Previously the owners, Rob and Stef, were the last owners of Zipperhead which opened in 1980. They had owned Zipperhead since 2000 and worked there for years before that. Crash Bang Boom is an evolved version of their former business. Keeping it real and truely independent, we love our customer base and do our best to offer them a good experience.

I knew I was gonna like this store the second I walked in because they were playing really good music and there were tons of cool t-​shirts on the wall. If you’re looking for a cool t-​shirt for yourself or a gift for a friend I’m sure you can find one here because they have lots to pick from. The girl behind the counter was really nice and friendly when we walked in. (I forgot her name it’s not a personal thing, i’m just horrible with names.) There were cool leather bracelets with spikes and studs, purses and other cool jewelry in the area up front. They also had Ramones and other cool onesies if you have any friends with little babies. I really liked the area in the back because they had a lot of cool pre-​owned clothes at decent prices. Before we walked out the cool chick (employee) gave us a list with other cool stores like this one that we might like too. If you’re visiting from out of town come check out all of Philly’s South Street businesses and if you live in Philly support your local businesses!

A great place for cool conversation with a kick ass sales staff, great t-​shirts and groovy accessories. You definitely can’t walk in without walking out with something cool to wear. They even have cool stuff for the toddling crowd. So even your 3 year old can look cool. A must stop when on South Street in Philly.

Thanks «Crash» for supporting local artists and bands; these guys always make you feel like a human being when you’re there and are always willing to help out and answer questions (unlike some other retail establishments, you know who you are, well actually pretty much everybody!) You guys rock!

A hidden gem, you must stop in. Punk edge, retro styles, for those of use who are young or still young at heart. Maybe our hair is too thin to use Manic Panic anymore, but we can still wear the clothing and have our edge.

Oh the wonders of this store. Made the right choice coming here in search of some leather-​ish additions to my wardrobe. Saw a lot of great clothing for men in the front and more for females toward the rear. The man behind the counter was very chill and I actually got a great music recommendation off of him (thanks for suggesting I check out the off-​the-​radar Jane’s Addiction!). Very pleased with my purchase and the service.

This is my go-​to place for hair dye. They have the best selection in Philadelphia and even carry my favorite brand, which is ‘Special Effects’. Apart from that, Crash Bang Boom is a legendary shopping spot for Punk Rockers wanting to shop for interesting an unique goods.

Sometimes, you just need the Manic Panic super bleach.
And WHERE O WHERE can you get such a product? But of course. The home base of punks, goths and metalheads old and young. What we knew as Zipperhead still exists in a different manifestation around the corner. And it is just as wondrous.
I feel at home inside, listening to Ministry and White Zombie and Peter Murphy. I pray that this store never goes away. Because if it did, that would be the final nail in the coffin of South Street as it was and should be. Bless this place. Bless it with studded belts, vinyl pants and doc martens. Forever.

one of the last few alternative clothing stores around, and one of my favorite spots to pop in while on south street. crash bang boom is always sure to have the goth/​punk mainstays while managing to get something new and cute in every time i go there. my hair dye purchases alone probably keep this store afloat, they are one of the few places that still carries special effects!
its also refreshing to have a punk rock store without the arrogant staff that they usually contain, everyone here is so friendly!

My boyfriend wanted to show me this place since I’ve never been. I fell in love as soon as I walked in! This store is simply an old school goth/​punk shop, except the people who work here are friendly. We talked to the lady behind the counter (black hair with bits of red) was as sweet as they come. I can’t say enough good things about this store. You’ll love it, and I can’t wait to go back!

I love this store with all my heart. Before it was CrashBB was Zipperhead owned an run on south st by the same amazing ppl you can find behind the counter today. A historical landmark, philly’ s own CBGB’s as written about in the song «punk rock girl» by local band «dead milkmen». You will find all the best clothes and special fx hairdye a guy or doll could want. Support local scene and stop in if u haven’t before. It will b ur new favorite spot for shopping ;)

Been going here since it was Zipperhead. Best staff in the world (Stef & Rob) and actually has shirts to bands actually relevant to the Punk & Goth scenes. I always find decent stuff on sale and their thrift racks have a bunch of great wardrobe pieces. I got a really nice black and white belted dress that works just as well at job interviews as it does paired with fishnets and Doc Martens for $ 12.

I’m a 33 year old lady and I can’t stop putting patches on everything. I have a thing for patches, I do. Patches and pins… I likes em. I like this place. I originally went in cause I had earring envy. I wanted the ones that my sister in law had bought there. I was copying-​catting her and I not too proud to admit. I got some earrings but I was distracted by the patches.
Crash Bang Boom has piles of patches for me to sort through cause I certainly need yet another Bad Brains or Sub Hum Ans or Cramps patch like I need another hole in the head. I bought six patches because they were two dollars each and I had exactly $ 13 in my wallet. If I’d $ 14, I would’ve bought seven. You see?

This Philly establishment is the original. Before there was the mall punk, South Street was king. And this store has style for days. Just the color and pattern outside is an indicator of how fun the things inside are.
Great for finding a new pair of tight black jeans, or that amazing studded belt you need. All your punk rock classics, under one roof.

The halcyon Punk Days of South Street are sadly gone, but I remain pollyanna-​ishly optimistic for their return. Hey, it’s possible… just consider how many times the flavor of South Street has changed over the last 50 years!
If and when that day comes, we will have the good folks at Crash Bang Boom (née Zipperhead) to thank (along with the remaining skate, tattoo, and piercing establishments along 4th Street) for keeping the fire burning!
My purple-​haired, Doc Marten wearing, roller derby loving daughter loves this place deeply and has been raised to still call it Zipperhead, (same re Wanamaker’s v. Macy’s) I’m proud to say. And tt is most decidedly *NOT* a Hot Topic «lite» as other reviewers have suggested: CBB is personal and real.

I love this place. but every time I set foot in it I can’t help but miss Zipperhead more and more. at least it’s (sort of) the same incredible punk rock boutique that offers a lot of the same stuff. and it still has a lot of the same cool staff, which is a good thing because Rob and Stefanie are awesome people.
setting foot in it just makes me wish that I could go back to what was a better time for South Street. at least I still have the classic Dead Milkmen song.
