Community is a fantastic shop. It’s a small community shop and feels as such. For those complaining about price, they should just stick to Amazon. You go here for service and to support local business. You can’t possibly expect them to keep up with the low ballers in the price arena, but then again nobody at Amazon is going to change your flat, give you a beer, and ask you to take a chill on their couch or play on the community balance board or slack line. Also a great longboard shop! The only place in Philly where you can get a quality board and components. Check them out!

Rob and the staff are great. Took great care of my bike and let me borrow a board to practice on in the meantime. They also lent me an old bike to ride when my nike was in the shop before. So pumped to be getting my baby back

Wouldn’t recommend bringing your old 3-​speed here. I have a Raleigh from I think 79 or 80 that I brought in for a tune-​up. I told the kid to fix whatever needed fixing, and give it a tune-​up, mentioned I was having trouble with the rear brake and shifter. This was maybe 2 months ago. The rear brake apparently hasn’t been working at all since I got it back (as I left the shop with it, the brake handle was stuck and I had to use 2 hands to squeeze it closed – I thought maybe this was from tightening or something), and this past week the shifter totally went (it would pop out of gear, wouldn’t stay in low gear, finally the fly wheel fell off). Here’s the kicker: I paid $ 125. I think the kids were nice, but now I’m wondering if they just stuck it in their basement and forgot about it till I picked it up! It would be even worse I think if they DID work on it. I just brought it to Via, they said the brake cable was rusted and they replaced it, and they fixed whatever was wrong with the shifter. Total $ 38. I’m not sure what I’m gonna do, don’t feel like getting in a fight, but need to call CB&B. I’ll post an update.

My boyfriend and I stopped by this shop in mid-​june to look for some bikes for him. We browsed, spoke to a guy I assume was the owner who was super nice, but did not buy. After the initial (pleasant) experience, I decided to purchase the bike for my boyfriend his birthday the following month. This past Saturday, we stopped by the shop to purchase one of the Retrospec bikes. The sales clerk told us about their discount card — pay $ 20 for the card and get 15% off the purchase. Great 15% off this $ 365 bike! Well, unfortunately, we wanted the matte gray retrospec frame which was apparently out of stock. We were going to leave the store empty handed, when another employee stated that, if we purchased a bike in store that day, he would give us an extra 10% off. So we picked a bike and were told to come back 45 minutes later. Some time after this, the gray matte retrospec frame we initially wanted was located in their stock. When we went to pay, a different employee refused to honor the additional 10% off offer because the store doesn’t let you combine offers. Apparently, if you purchase the $ 20 discount card, which we did, the store does not honor any additional discounts offered by a sales representative. They failed to mention this, however, when they were trying to entice us to buy the bike. If that was, in fact, the store policy– they should have stated this from the very beginning. I purchased the bike anyway because it was a birthday gift for my boyfriend but left with a bad taste in my mouth. Had it been for me, I would have left the bike there. I had planned to return to this shop to buy another one of the retrospec bikes, but after the experience I had, I will not be returning. It is extremely dishonest to promise your clients one thing in order to make the sale, and then turn around and refuse to honor it.

This place was charging $ 7 today for patch kits. Literally 2−3x what these cost at other shops in town or online. When I noted that it’s more than inner tubes cost, the friendly cashier told me their tubes go for $ 7 as well – also overpriced, albeit not so flagrantly.
Selection on bikes and parts is much more flash than quality: mostly lots of anodized no-​name components. Not my type of selection, which is fine and all. I’d appreciate the customer service if it was coupled with at least semi-​reasonable prices instead of gouging that comes off as sneaky and insulting.

I purchased my single speed bike from community and have always tried to bring it back there for tunes ups and minor repairs. That was the case this time when I had a rear flat and needed a spoke to be replaced, I brought it to community. The day after I had service done I noticed my rear tube was way over inflated to the point where the tire was bulging over the rim, resulting in me having to replace that tube and tire. When the mechanics at community took apart the back wheel they over lubed the chain and didn’t put my locking nuts back on. I had to take my bike to another shop to replace the locking nuts, tube, and buy a whole new tire. My bike is covered in oil and dirt. I am Very disappointed in this lack of care service they gave me.

I love this awesome epic bike shop! It’s hip and up-​to-​date, got a epic décor, and they’re always willing to help you out! Really superb customer service, friendly and straightforward with ya. And of course they have free air and the small tune ups too! This is the best shop I’ve ever been to, for a first time bike rider.

I bought an Amazon Local voucher for a discounted bike tune-​up, so I left a voicemail just before they opened for the day, asking for an appointment (per voucher instructions). When they hadn’t called me back several hours later, I called again. They told me it was a minimum 1−½ day turn-​around (up to 4 days if they got busy), and that I could leave the bike and they would let me know when it was done. I explained that I had only Friday afternoons available for drop off/​pick up and didn’t want to be without my bike for a week, and couldn’t I just make an appointment. They said that’s considered «rush» service and costs an extra $ 10, but I was more than welcome to leave it until the following Friday. There was no effort for any level of customer service, plus, thinking back on the unprofessional outgoing voicemail message they leave for their customers (we’ll get back to you if we feel like it ?!!), I won’t do business here. I thanked him for the information and promptly contacted Amazon for a refund (already credited!)

Love these guys so much. Always willing to help and educate this Bicycle novice. Came in when my bike was stolen, picked out a gorgeous Retrospec to order and picked it up in less than a week. James hooked it up and I can’t tell you how happy I am knowing my first tune up is free! Go here, you’ll be so happy you did.

Great place! I actually stumbled in here by accident because I couldn’t find Bicycle Revolution and I found this place instead. It was after a 10-​hr work day for me, it was raining, and arrrrgggh, I had a flat at 7 PM on a Saturday. My other bike place (Via Bicycle) is closed on Sunday and Monday and arrrrrggh, was this really happening to me? You can see my frustration.
Anyway, they brought me in and offered me a beer and fixed my flat in a few minutes. I can’t express how grateful I am that I don’t have to walk to work for the next two days. Also, I watched Paul interact with a few customers, including this ten-​year-​old kid. What a great guy! I will definitely return to this store in the future.

I had a bad experience a month ago and Rob from Community followed up with me. I like supporting neighborhood businesses so I am updating my review … and I will give Community Bikes and Boards my business again.

I’ve been by Community more than 10 times now for a variety of reasons:
— To cop a new cruiser board
— To pick up hardware for my board
— To take my friends to purchase boards
— Simply to chill out, look around and sip a beer from the Community Keg!
It’s definitely true that most times I’ve swung by of late college-​age kids are holding the store down, but this is by no means a bad thing — these guys know their shit! Not to mention they’re great energy.
Let me give you an idea of how Community operates. Two weeks ago I went by the store with a friend to pick up a shortboard. Unfortunately they didn’t have the deck that he wanted, so, as expected, they ordered it in. However, in the meantime they loaned him one of their other shortboards to use until the new one came in. Sure enough, a week later we took it back and traded it in for the new one.
Great selection of bikes and boards and my favorite place to hit in the city for either need!

I am starting off my update to state that I was sharing only my experience and feelings. I do not know much about bikes except that they are fun to ride. I did not intend to offend or upset anyone with my posting.
The owner of community did reach out to rectify the situation. I believe that there was a misunderstanding about what I needed from the bike shop.
I recently sold my bike because a nearby bike shop sold me a bike that was too small for me. I might even consider buying a new bike from community! Thanks Robert!

Awesome, awesome shop and even better customer service. I just moved to town and was buying a bike for the first time in maybe 15 years. James and the rest of the staff were super helpful and knowledgeable. He walked me through the in’ sand out’s and had me test ride a few. We discussed each bike at length and it really helped in making a decision. Really pleased with my purchase and the whole experience. They had very fair prices for the new bikes as well. I’m bringing my girlfriend in next week so she can purchase one.
I should also add that I went to 3 other shops in the area and I’m glad I found Community. I plan to recommended them to everyone I know and I wouldn’t purchase anywhere else. These guys are awesome. Oh, and they even had the throw back NES game, Skate or Die so I immediately knew I was in good hands!
Don’t go anywhere else, go to Community or you’ll most likely regret your decision.

I love this place.
I bought my first city bike here and I had an incredibly positive experience. Before even becoming a customer, I stopped in here just to see there selection and I spoke with the staff. They were very easy to chat with and recommended a couple bikes in my price range. I ended up returning a week or so later and purchasing a bike with them which went very smoothly.
I’ve returned several times for a tune up and for having a flat replaced. They always complete the work within about 20 minutes and their prices are incredible. Also, they offer me a beer most times I go in there because they’re just cool like that.
If you’re looking for a bike shop run by a good set of dudes, who also happen to know a ton about bikes, this place is your jam.

I’ve walked by this place a million times but never stepped in until I purchased a tune up groupon/​living social for my wife and I. Took my dog up and she was allowed to roam the shop while I talked through the tune ups…+1 there.
Everyone was friendly and they recommended a few things for the tune up… brake pads, retape handle bars, etc. All the additional work was reasonable and I was only charged for the parts not labor since I was already getting the tune ups.
My wife has a cruiser and they recommended replacing the front tire. The price was a little high I thought $ 22 since I bought the back tire at Via earlier this year for $ 10. I was also a little disappointed once I got home and realized that they had replaced the tire but when they pumped up the tube it had a bulge in it that I would have to fix. Not a big deal, but not exactly a flawless tune up.
Overall, its a nice shop and the majority of the prices were reasonable.
The inside of the shop is nice, focuses on bikes and longboard skateboards. It’s a small spot though so the selection isn’t massive. Overall, I’d come back here for service on my bike mostly due to the good attitudes of everyone at the shop.
