Chop Shop

I was hoping to have a good experience here like the other reviewers did, but it ended up going pretty badly. I’m a girl who likes to keep my hair at pixie-​length, and when I told my stylist how short I wanted to go, she made a few strange remarks that I thought were inappropriate, and it was obvious to see that she wasn’t a personal fan of short hair on ladies. This wasn’t the first sign of unprofessionalism, because while at any other salon, the cut would take at least half an hour with careful precision, my stylist (and I can’t remember what her name was unfortunately) tried to get me over with as quickly as possible, and I must have walked out of there within fifteen minutes. The end result was not very flattering and I had to let it grow out for a few weeks before I could do anything to fix it. She didn’t seem to have much experience with pixie cuts, or maybe she just didn’t feel like giving up much effort for a style she didn’t care for. Either way, I left feeling somewhat self-​conscious and unwilling to return.

It was my first time at a Chop Shop and I’ve heard it’s the place to go for quick and inexpensive haircuts in the City. For women, they run from $ 15 to $ 25 depending on cut/​style.
I was quoted a 30min wait time when I walked in and as my usual impatient self, I started to get peeved around the 45min mark. I could see the only hairdresser there working meticulously on an old bald man that was getting his hair dyed (yeah, I don’t get it either). I remember sitting in my chair wishing she would move faster so I can get a quick cut and go back to work.
I took it all back when it was my turn. First, do yourself a favor and make sure to work with Nadia. I wanted a simple cut for a wedding I was going to and I got that and more. First, she pointed out my ends were damaged and made recommendations on how to fix them. She listened as I told her I don’t like to spend time on my hair and I always pull it up after a shower. She showed me some tricks I could do quickly to style my hair and made a list of products I should get to make it easier to manage. She also did a great job at answering my many questions.
I was extremely satisfied with the end result. I actually ended up wearing my hair down that day for the first time in months, even whipping it back and forth (but not like the music video). My hair is still light and fluffy days later. Go to her and you’ll see what I mean! She also works at the Manayunk and South Street location.

I was in the need for a quick fix, and I walked out with a gorgeous Victoria Beckham like cut. I can’t remember the name of my stylist, but she was very efficient. I wasn’t expecting to love my cut as much as I did but I would highly recommend coming here for a haircut. I think I only paid $ 20 and a few weeks later I am still loving my haircut.

I love Nadine at this location. I have been going to her for years and she nails it every time. Whether it’s a trim or a full style & color, I just let her do what she thinks will look best and always leave looking amazing. Plus, her cuts grow back in well so I look good in between visits, too. I always receive compliments thanks to her work.

The location is convenient to me. and they certainly could fo my hair (medium length cut) within 30 mins. Both time is the same guy handling my hair.
My first time visit. end up quiet short, but still cute. when it get longer, a lot of people asked me who did my hair and then they went over. so I give a 4 stars.
My second time visit. Diaster, A lot of people asked me who did my hair and delete from their favorite list. (I even showed the pix to the guy at the time, and the result was just bad. I give 0 star.
I did not try the girls’ job, so cannot really tell. By the way, the pricing is not what they advertise. They always charge me 5 dollars more.
For therefore, overall I give a 2 stars. (My friend prohibit me to go there no more.)

I love the chop shop on temple’s campus– or I guess the apt thing to say is– I love Sean at the CH on temples campus. I came to him in a time of serious hair distress– can you picture, Little Mermaid meets Leeloo from the fifth element kind of hair mistake? cuz I can, because I had it.
Sean at the time had been doing my sisters hair for some time and she suggested that he might be able to fix mine. She was right, and instant love blossomed. It seems to me that most of the other hair dressers are equally competent and talented. Though some of their clientele– yeah you temple kids– are basically rude and overestimate what a hairdresser can do. I always joke that if you are ugly and after your haircut you are still ugly that’s not the hairdressers fault. I’ve seen these guys work wonders, and I believe in them.
I will continue to go here for as long as Sean works here for sure.

I got an okay cut here, but I ended up paying 60 bucks for it! They advertise haircuts for 10 dollars, then charge you an extra 5 for using scissors, an extra 10 for layers, etc, etc. Maybe some guys can get a ten dollar hair cut but its definitely not possible for a girl. They charge extra for EVERYTHING. Go somewhere where you actually end up paying the advertised price.

worst hair cut I’ve ever gotten. I have long hair and asked for them to keep the length and just clean it up. I ended up with my hair short, uneven, and somehow a rattail. for your own sake don’t go here.

Terrible. Please take notice that there is a charge for scheduling an appointment. Went here over a year ago on my streak of bad cuts, this place was no exception.

I had first went to the Chop Shop (South Street location) a few years back and loved the way they styled my hair. Audrey was my stylist and did an awesome job for a steal at the cheap, Chop Shop price. After Audrey left, I had decided to continue to get my hair cut there and it was down hill since then. First I had tried the South Street location-​the one I had always gone to. They gave me bangs that dried to about a half an inch long. Being that I was miserable with that haircut, I figured I would try the Chop Shop located on Temple’s campus. That was a mistake. The prices had gone up (which I was unaware about) but I also barely got a haircut. They trimmed up some areas and I was very unhappy with the outcome of my haircut. Needless to say, I haven’t gone back there since and I can officially say that the Chop Shop holds true to its name.

As a male, I paid $ 15 for for my haircut because they used clippers and scissors. The price is a bit more than I am used to paying, and after a few days I realized how mediocre the cut was because everyone kept making fun of my hair. It was sticking up in a funny way because it wasn’t cut very well. There are a lot of better and cheaper places.

I think this place gets a bad rap because it’s called the Chop shop and because it offers such cheap cuts, but in reality, you get more than you pay for. First off getting $ 10 cut means that all the stylist does is cut your hair. No washing, no blowdrying, just a cut. I’ve seen some of the stylist spray the client’s hair with water first, then cut it and send them on their way, and other stylists flat iron the client’s hair first, cut it, and send them on their way. If you’re a walk-​in or make an appointment with no preference as to who your stylist is, the price remains at $ 10. if you request a stylist, the price raises to $ 15. As far as boy’s cuts, I’ve seen all of the stylists do a great job. If you’re an african american girl and want to avoid the +$ 5 fee for requesting someone, walk into the shop to make an appointment. The receptionist will see that you’re African american, and automatically pair you with Diane, as she does all the african american girls. She’ll wash, blowdry, and cut for around $ 30, but if you want her to flat iron it, it’s an extra $ 20. i think it’s over-​the-​top price-​wise to charge $ 20 just to do that, but she’s good at it and can really get your hair straight. She does a good job cutting my hair, even if it turns out a little shorter than I expected. She recently had a baby, so her hours are much less than they have been in the past, so definitely make an appointment.
