History

Established in 1991.

In the spring of 1991, Catering By Design (CBD) came to life. And with it, came an entirely new way of entertaining that blended expertly prepared cuisine with striking conceptual design. Since that time, we have crafted unforgettable events unlike anything that had ever come before. This unique enterprise was founded by Peter Loevy, a graduate of Colgate University and The Restaurant School and a seasoned veteran of the restaurant and catering industry. Seven years later, Loevy partnered with Daniel Love, who brought a background of expertise in theater, hospitality, and museum catering. This complementary combination of culinary, design, and hospitality experiences has made Catering By Design Philadelphia’s preeminent event coordinators featuring a full-​time design staff.

My sister’s wedding was on Saturday and Catering by Design handled a brunch on Sunday at my parents’ house. We all agreed that they did an absolutely phenomenal job. Not only was the food delicious, the service was exemplary. They were organized, friendly, and extremely helpful from setup to take down. I would recommend this company without reservations. Great job, CBD– we really appreciate it!

We worked with Megan and were very impressed. She knew the venue like the back of her hand and made sure everything went to plan on the day-​of. The food was fantastic. We did a stations menu and all the guests raved about the variety and taste of the food. They decorated as well, which added a lot to the look. Highly recommend for wedding caterer.

I can’t believe that I forgot to write a review for CBD. Dan & his team were our caterers for our wedding at the College of Physicians building. Working with them was a pleasure… they were great in building a different type of menu for us (we had a Polish/​Italian mix reflecting our backgrounds) and were unbelievably helpful in helping us set up the event in our own, unique way.
Day of, everything was amazing. Great food. Great service. Perfectly executed. I highly recommend them.

Dan and his team at Catering By Design were amazing throughout the year we worked with them preparing for our wedding at the College of Physicians (a fantastic venue, by the by).
Dan emits a sense of calm that soothes even the most frayed nerves immediately, assuring each person that the event will be perfect even when little things don’t go exactly according to plan.
From the tasting (luxurious pampering at their Mt. Airy space) to the event itself, everything was spot on and absolutely delicious.
Every staff person was friendly, polite, and conscientious: making sure we were taken care of and helping us round up bits and pieces we’d brought with us at the end of the night. Thank you!
We will certainly call on CBD should we need catering in the future and in the meantime, we will cross our fingers that our friends get married at the College, too, ’cause the minute I’m not wearing ivory, I’m going to gobble every amazing hors d’œuvre without worrying about spills (um, those dumplings: amazeballs!)!

I’m pretty much going to agree with the rest of the reviews here. CBD is excellent.
We had our wedding the College of Physicians, catered by CBD. We looked at a few unique venues for a wedding in Philly but the search was over once we found CoP.
Dan and Lauren did an amazing job. We were in good hands from the initial meeting all the way through the big day. The set up and food were fantastic. Planning was a breeze because everything is in house. The venue, alcohol, food, decoration, flowers, etc were all handled by Dan and his staff. The wedding planning was quite stress free.
Did I mention the food is great?!
I would recommend CBD to anyone for their event. They really are top notch.

I hired Catering by Design to cater my recent wedding at Boathouse Row and they were nothing short of fantastic! Nancy our go-​to at CBD did it all… she helped create a layout, gave us unique ideas/​touches, created a completely unique menu, and kept us organized the entire time. Not to mention she was fun to work with!
If you are planning an event definitely look at CBD as they were superb!

Catering By Design provided catering services for my wedding at the College of Physicians, and I cannot say enough good things about them! The food was amazing, and Dan made us feel so relaxed and taken care of throughout the entire event. I had the wedding I’ve always dreamed about, and I wouldn’t have changed a single thing. We actually loved the food so much at the tasting that we decided to use CBD for our rehearsal dinner as well as the wedding reception. At both events it was amazing to feel like we were in good hands, and our only job was to focus on enjoying my family and friends and eat delicious food. They were wonderful!

Catering by Design is my go to off-​premise caterer. Not only do they have superb food and service, but the extraordinary event vision from principal Dan Love is unmatched.
CBD provided catering services for a my company’s open house cocktail party in February 2014. They turned a boring office into a festive environment, and all within budget. With some simple, but exotic florals and high-​end linen, the office conference room was made into a welcoming space that our guests lingered in. After seeing our office space on our pre-​event tour, Dan offered a completely overhauled menu that would please almost all of our expected guests. People are still raving about it weeks later.
I only had a few weeks to finalize the party’s details, but Dan and his team were ready. They provided inside feedback on event flow dynamics, since they had experience with office cocktail parties before. Since I didn’t have experience with this type of event, it was so great to have the support and advice of CBD to make sure that our event was a complete success.
I highly recommend Catering By Design for any catering needs.

We hosted a large event at the College of Physicians and Catering by Design was the in-​house caterer. Our event had an open bar (3 different bar locations — so never a long line — whoo-​hoo) and fancy hors d’oeurves including a pad thai bar (awesome) a slider bar — falafel, chicken and beef burgers and a goreous display (under the 2nd floor rotunda) of charcuterrie, olives, spreads, breads and dips.
Great job!
Great tasting, plentiful food — within our limited budget.
And — as i mentioned — plenty of booze flowing all night long with little to no waiting.
