Best place to go and just point at an item on menu. Just go for it breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack. I love this place. There deserts are even amazing.

Usually this is my go to place when craving Jamaican food … But today was very disappointing… I ordered stewed chicken with rice & beans/cabbage there was absolutely no gravy(STEWED chicken?) the food also taste different … From the looks of it they switched cooks … I really hope the normal cook just had today off

A great place to get fresh #veggie juice in west Philadelphia! Please read more below. A great mix of West Indian/Trinidadian food. Get there quick because the fish runs out early. Platters are plentiful and reasonably priced. Authentic food. I recommend the«King Fish» with macaroni & cheesecake.

Growing up in brooklyn, I’ve been eating roti most of my life. Use to go to this place a couple years back and the roti was ok. Went about a week ago, and they had no roti skins, so I settled for a small dinner. No peas and rice, so I got veggie, and no stew beef, so I got stew chicken. Rice was ok, chicken was rubbery, and the cabbage was pretty good. When I get a shrimp roti from there I’ll update, but best shrimp roti is in BK.

I’ve had their soya and potato rotis, and all I can say is that they’re just so good! The roti wrap is chewy and the dough is a little flaky, just the way I like it. The potato filling is a bit on the salty side, but it balances out well with the curry and onion flavoring. It comes piping hot and is extremely filling – definitely worth the money. The roti can be a bit messy to eat, so be prepared to dig in with a fork and knife. Overall a wonderful food experience from another hole-in-the-wall place that shouldn’t be so easily overlooked.

Curry chicken was delicious & the small platter was a huge portion! Was glad I went with small… it came with rice and choice of two sides. Very affordable. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Nice Jamaican spot with some unique beverages & bakery items too. Coworkers have raved about the bakery, I’ll have to go for breakfast or dessert next time.

Another awesome hole-in-the-wall gem in West Philly. Come with your pocket changes and an empty stomach and you will leave very satisfied. The salt fish sandwich and chickpea sandwich were amazing! I will have to come back for ox-tail. The service is a bite slow, but i think we just need to relax a bit.

Wanted to try Brown Sugar Café as it was trending on Unilocal near my work… I am willing to go back and try some other options but cannot recommend the chicken Roti. I entered this semi-to-go place and noticed a pastry case, and an order window as well as pick up counter. I was confused as to which window to go to first, but a customer was nice enough to tell me where to line up. I decided on the chicken roti. The order came out quickly and I paid the cheap 6 dollars for Roti. Take the roti back, and get ready to munch down, I notice curried potatoes, a small amount of chicken, and to what I think might be 4 chick peas. I was disappointed to see that the chicken was still on the bone. I find it a little disturbing that they would serve something similar to a burrito with meat still on the bone. God forbid someone bit right into this they would get quite the surprise. I found their curry to be quite bland, the chicken to be over cooked, and the texture of the roti grainy. It was displeasing. In the future I will definitely try a pastry and one of the many drinks they offer. Not willing to give up on this place yet.

This hidden gem is a real treat sometimes. I especially like the wrapped beef and the peanut butter punch smoothie. It was kind of hot the day I went in there as the air conditioning must not have been turned on. However, the food was good and they have a wide variety of assorted breads and desserts available and on display which make for a delicious snack.

Eh… when I have a hankering for Caribbean, it’ll do. But… it’s definitely not the best, nor worst I’ve had.

All I can say is this: my favorite local snack is a chicken patty from Brown Sugar. It’s $ 1.50. Delicious value. Go for it.

I frequent Brown Sugar too many times to count. I usually get Cassave Pone, Currants Roll, Roti, Doubles, or Patties. The roti is great and I’ve had the freshest Roti on a Saturday morning. The doubles bara is a hit or miss sometimes but generally very good. The actual restaurant is a bit small with the bakery counter and juice bar taking up much of the space. There are two booths that you can sit at if you want to eat your food there. Then there are two windows. You order from the window on the right and pay at the window on left. The roti prices are really good considering the amount of work that goes into preparing a roti. I highly recommend this place for take out roti or a quick snack on some doubles or patties. Oh and they have a Mauby and Sorrel fountain. Call ahead to order on busy days!

The Good: Delicious food! Piping hot, delicious roti filed with fall-off-the-bone chicken and curried potatoes. Their patties are perfectly palm-sized pastries stuffed with meat, sort of like a South American hot pocket, only they actually taste good. Bakery items tasted fresh and weren’t too sweet; I sampled the currant roll, coconut roll, and casava cake and all three were excellent. The Bad: The chicken roti has bones — chomp at your own risk. And don’t plan on dining in, because they only have as many tables as two-face has faces. The Ugly: Their smoothies are named after diseases they are intended to cure. You will find this either uniquely cute or strangely off-putting… Menstrual Cramp Smoothie, anyone? Ultimately, a fantastic meal that will fill you up without making you feel like you just ingested a cinderblock! Totally worth trekking through the rain from Penn’s campus to go. I’ll definitely be back to try their breakfast items and smoothies.

Came here with a huge group of friends today for lunch. It’s quite a walk from where we were, but it was well worth it :) The place itself is fairly small, and so it was quite the effort for the 10+ of us to fit in the only two tables there. Service there was fast and no nonsense, but it is really the food that makes this place. I ordered the oxtail platter(small), which was a sizable portion for a greater price. The oxtail was delicious – flavorful and juicy. I only wished that they could have given more, especially because the bones were so large. I didn’t get to order a smoothie, but I’m sure to try one next time!

I love one block from here!!! All the food I have ever ordered is DELICIOUS and an incredible value. The roti I ordered was good, but the oxtail blew my minnnnnddd. It was so savory and meaty and full of bones. I wish there was more room to sit down, but we went on a crowded Sunday. I have also tried the cranberry breakfast pastries and the coffee. They’re delicious. I can’t wait until I have some weird disease so I can go order their tailored juices!

Trini transplant visiting from Michigan. OMG! This place had generous portions and lots of variety, including breakfast options. Actually took home some baked goods for family & friends. Oh! And some doubles — yes they travel well when you’re desperate. lol! Their currants rolls are amazingly good! Can’t say enough good things about this place. From Center City take the Market-Frankford Line(Blue Line) towards 69th street. Exit @ 52nd. From station head about ¼ mile south on 52nd.
