History

Established in 1980.

Practice was originally founded in the mid 1960s, relocated in the early 1970s to an office suite within the main CHOP building at 34^th Street/Civic Center Boulevard, and then moved to our current office space at 2400 Chestnut Street. The suburban Ardmore office has remained in the same location since opening in 1980.

Previous pediatricians have included Patrick S. Pasquariello, Jr., M.D., Alexandra Bartlett, M.D., and William S Zavod, M.D.

Dr. King graduated from Bucknell University, received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in pediatrics in Philadelphia at St. Christophers Hospital for Children. Board certified in Pediatrics, and a long standing Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, he has practiced pediatrics for 35 years in the same location. He is actively involved with childbirth education for expectant parents/families and clinical mentoring of medical students. He is married and the father of two grown married children.

So far so good-made the transition from Society Hill Pediatrics and we are definitely fans. Patient-Family-oriented practice, indeed. We met with Dr. Karpel-Shipon. We didn’t feel rushed, she took her time connected with our kid, and we feel that we can trust her.

This is a wonderful, old-fashioned, patient– and family-oriented practice. They time appointments carefully, so no crowded waiting rooms full of sick kids. We loved all three docs, and Dr. Karpel-Shipon has been an outstanding replacement for the retired Dr. Bartlett.
Appointments are required, but they are great about fitting a sick child in.

Had a baby girl over the long weekend and was told to find a pediatrician 2 – 3 days after discharge
Called the office the first working day and they were able to fit us in the same day :)
Both me and my wife’s are physician and can tell how good some one is and let me tell you that the Doctors are top notch and I as a physician was comfortable with Dr King
He gave our baby girl a through physical, answered our million questions and told us what to expect
I was impressed — computers /e prescription whatever
The caring competent physician, who takes excellent care of your child, answers your question and is able to fit you in and take a short lunch, who has physician coverage ²⁴⁄₇ (not a NP/PA)is what you want with and that is you will get

I cannot say enough good things about this practice! Zavod and King were my peds growing up and were amazing then as well, so when I found out they had a location near us I jumped at the chance to have my little guy see them. The week our son was born, his bilirubin levels were high, and we were running an hour or so late in getting to the hospital to get the necessary test done — who should call us at home but Dr. Zavod, telling us to go directly to the hospital to get the bilirubin test!!! (That certainly made an impression!) Just yesterday, I came home from work and my son was incredibly sick. Dr. King fit us in his schedule at the end of the day just before the long holiday weekend, and my son is now on the mend today thanks to the visit. Search no further for a pediatrician — these guys are the real deal!!!

Dr. King has been our family pediatrician for over a decade. We love him and the entire practice. They will fit you in, speak with you on the phone, follow-up: it’s like the good old days! Dr. King has always given us really good advice; he is old fashioned and refreshingly non-interventionist, and has a supportive, positive and completely down-to-earth bedside manner. My two children, ages 13 and 8, feel very comfortable with him and have positive associations with going to the doctor, despite sometimes having to get shots. There’s nothing like having a pediatrician one can trust and who treats one as a partner. It makes the world of difference when something is wrong.

DR Zavod is great, I have 3 kids, ages 3, 5, and 7. We have never had any problem there. Completely professional. very responsive, and he has been on point always. Yeah, sometimes we have to wait a bit when we arive for our appointments, but that’s just because he is taking care of other kids and giving them the attention they need. He always fits us in for emergency appointments. I would recommend as a top rated pediatrician.

Professional, real doctors. Not alot of bull or trying to dazzle you with technology. They know children. They answer the questions. They give a real physical. They care. They like the kids. They get back to you. It is what it is supposed to be.

We love the «old school» feel of this place, and our son is always in great hands. The only thing I wish someone would’ve told me was that if we don’t bring our son’s school form in the day of his visit and come back another day to get it filled out and signed by the doctor, there is a $ 10 fee. Not a huge deal, but wish I would’ve been told before leaving the office the first time.

I love Dr. Zavod. They are definitely «old-school» pediatricians and I love them for it. He gives my daughter a thorough exam and answers all my questions. What’s also great about them is I never feel pressure into giving my daughter any vaccines, shots or medicines. He will explain everything and if I decline something, Dr. Zavod fully supports my decision and doesn’t try to talk me into anything. Once, my daughter got sick on Christmas Eve and he returned my call within 15 minutes of leaving a message.
The office is by NO means modern or up-to-date but there’s nothing wrong with that at all. I don’t even think there is a computer in the whole place. Their Ardmore location is just the same. The desk personnel and nurses are all so sweet. I agree with Andy’s review that you will always see a doctor, not just a nurse, med student or resident.
Unfortunately Dr. Bartlett has retired, but she was pretty great too.
I’m currently expecting my second child and will definitely be bringing her to Dr. Zavod as well!
Tip — Make an appointment for close to 2pm (their lunch is from 1−2pm, so you’ll be first in line when they reopen!) The wait is never long anyway, but it’s just an FYI.

Great «old-school» pediatricians. Bartlett has left the practice, but Drs. Zavod and King are always quick to return a phone call, you won’t wait long past your appointment time, and you’ll always see a doctor, unlike some of the other larger practices.
