Mr. Sheppard did not tell the truth in his respponse. I have an e-​mail from him telling me this happens to Grace Mitchell paintings all the time and that I could hire any art student to remove the varnish and replace it. I did not trust him to take care of my painting and indeed refused to ship it to him. I never told him it was too much trouble. I was very concerned about my painting (I don’t know why he’s saying it wouldn’t have cost me anything — the shipping would have been very expensive for such a heavy work to and from Philadelphia)
I contacted another gallerist who sells Grace Mitchell hoping to get some answers and she told me she buys her Grace Mitchell from Mr. Sheppard. She had just sent a painting to him for repair — the same exact problems I was having. He lied to her, telling her the artist would be repairing the work.
I don’t care who is wife is (whom he never mentioned) — a reputable restorer in NY told me the varnish on these paintings is a deliberate act on the part of the artist and having someone else touch the work greatly changes its integrity and value.
He said he would cover the charges which amounted to $ 100. I have an e-​mail from Mr. Sheppard saying he lied to me to get rid of me and never intended on covering the cost. He also refused to respond to all contact from the BBB.
