Only ordered pick up once so this is only based on that one dish. Do not order Pad Thai unless you are ok with Lo mein with kind of a Pad-Thai sauce. To me, the rice noodles are the main part of what I love about Pad Thai. I was disappointed. The sort-of tamarind sauce also had a bit of an unpleasant after taste. Don’t think I would be trying another dish from this place.

I once gave them 5 star rating, but that was more than a year ago. They have since become a 3.5 star, as their service has gone down and the delivery time has gotten longer. The food is still very good, so I’ll mark them as a 4 star. I recommend the chicken hibachi.

Ordered from here two weeks ago, gave me the wrong order. I was promised a credit, went to call again today and the person who answered the phone remembered the credit, but he did not grant me the credit, not ordering from here ever again. Very poor service and communication.

Ordered delivery that took an hour. I ordered the chicken and beef hibachi since they advertised it so much on their site I thought I’d try it out. It was not very good. Poor quality meats, mostly onions and mushrooms, and the fried rice was super dry. My husband got the chicken and broccoli and said it was no better than any other corner Chinese place.

I like the fact that they deliver, they’re pretty quick and the food is decent. I wish they could improve the wonton soup. I’ve ordered twice here, the order was correct and the delivery guy was very nice. Both times I’ve ordered, the restaurant has given me free egg rolls, which is very nice of them. I don’t usually deviate from my General Tso Chicken with fried rice w/o onions so I don’t get get to experience the other offerings. I did order the shrimp roll and it was terrible. The shrimp roll was 2 pieces of shrimp, shredded cabbage wrapped in spring roll wrapper and deep fried. To me, it tasted bland and boring. The egg roll is ok, I’m not really a fan of egg-rolls to begin with. The General Tso chicken, I have noticed that it’s mostly batter. Don’t get me wrong, deep fried batter with some chicken is yummy but it can use more chicken! I think I find myself ordering here because it’s too cold to venture out but I have a feeling that once it warms up I may go back to my other non-delivering China House unless this place improves on certain things. Also, the PORK in the fried rice taste funny. That must change, it’s really weird and indescribable.

I have been coming to this place forever – back when it was called Ho Sai Gai and the food has always been one of my faves in South Philly. It’s definitely a little sketchy with the bullet proof glass and the take out beer, but the food is good so who cares? I am a fan of their«beef on a stick», mei fun, crab rangoon, and egg rolls. The only thing that is hit or miss here in my opinion is the general tso’s, which is kind of unfortunate because it’s such an easy go-to when I don’t know what I want. My bf is lame and always gets the chicken wing fried rice, which he says is really good so that’s something I guess. They always get the order right, and the food comes pretty fast, plus the freebies are pretty awesome :)

My girlfriend and I have ordered from this place before(many months ago, I’ll admit) and it was decent. Much much later we decided to give it another go. This time they actually stole some money from us. The amount they gave us was not what it was supposed to be(it should have been $ 17.55 including tax but they told me $ 19.15) and they claimed it was for a «delivery charge.» Their website says delivery is free, and it was free last time we ordered from them, but 17 Snyder insisted there’s a charge. I assume they charge extra now depending on how far away they have to go, but their website should really reflect that. I tried to talk about this«delivery charge» with the delivery person, a short balding middle-aged asian man, but he barely spoke English at all and stuttered a lot. I gave him $ 17.55(exact change for what the total was SUPPOSED to be) but he refused to accept any amount lower than $ 19.15. I said he could keep the food with him — I would take the $ 17.55 and come back with $ 20 — he strongly disagreed, mumbled words that slipped back and forth between English and Chinese, and wouldn’t give me back any of the money I had handed over. So fine, I went back upstairs for a few seconds and got money so that he would get exact change, hoping he wouldn’t rip me off by escaping with my money AND the food. I starting handing the delivery man $ 2.10($ 19.65 total), saying I had exact change and he only had to return two of the quarters I gave him in exchange for the dime. He gave me a nickel and quarter, refused to take the dime, and ran for his car. I kept trying to say he owed me 15 cents but he wasn’t listening and moved really fast for his age. I’m not too worried about losing 15 cents but there’s the principle of the matter to consider. Before even GETTING to the food I was extremely displeased. The restaurant had made up some possibly-bogus charge, sent a delivery man who barely spoke English, and stole some of my money. Needless to say I didn’t have high hopes for the food, but I remained optimistic since it had been decent last time. Unfortunately the food was greasy and bland, less quality than our previous order. It still tasted okay and it was basically what we wanted, so I guess that’s an «average» rating. Most Chinese places seem to do this now. The«open late» aspect is great, and I haven’t been able to take advantage of the beer/smokes option. but after this latest experience… I don’t think I’ll be ordering from this place again anytime soon. It seems like the overall quality at 17 Snyder is steadily decreasing.

Open late(plus), fried rice tastes funny(minus), sells forties and dutchies(plus x2), food crazy greasy(minus). Conclusion: come for the food, leave with the smoke n’ drink?

Finally, I’ve found it. Generic Americanized Chinese take-out and beer in the same store. A simple concept that combines two trips for me which doesn’t exist in the neighborhoods I have lived in and that includes Brewerytown,(or at least not that I knew of). Look, if I’m going to get corner Chinese, I’m going to get malt liquor to wash it down, or vice versa. End of story.

At 11:30 on a Thursday night, we were really craving some Chinese. Unfortunately, not very many Chinese restaurants stay open late during the week in South Philly. Then we found 17 Snyder. Great chicken fried rice, flavorful steamed dumplings, as well as a nice won ton soup. We were really happy with it, especially considering how cheap it was. Plus, we got a free egg roll! This is definitely going to be our new spot for Chinese in South Philly.
