Suddenlink Communications

Remember when your cell phone had limited minutes? How about your limited data on your mobile? Suddenlink took that feature and applied it to your home internet connection! Isn’t that awesome. Everyone loves metered bandwidth and having to limit their consumption to an arbitrary number selected by a company that still measures your bandwidth usage in terms such as «hours of standard def streaming» or «number of e-​mail sent and received».
Seriously, Suddenlink comes with a monthly allowance of gig per month and then charges you fees for exceeding this limit. The limits are set very low for today’s content. For example, Xbox One has a 60 gig update when you get it out of the box (new operating system). This means if you have a plan that only offers 400 gig a month you use 15% of your allowance the day you plugged in the console. Here is some more math for you…
1 hour of 1080P Netflix = 4.7Gig
1 hour of online game play on xbox = 100m3g an hour (.1gig)
1 hour of Skype = 48meg (.05gig)
1 hour Spotify = 50meg (.05gig)
50 hours of 1080P Netflix = 235 gig
20 hours of online game play = 2 gig
8 hours of Skype = .5 Gig
16 hours of Spotify = 1 gig
1 digital game download from xbox per month = 60 Gig
Total = 298.5 gig
And you haven’t even counted any downloads, iTunes, Facebook, Snapchat, or Vine? And what if I live with someone, or heaven forbid… have a family in this house.
Ohh and enter 4K…
1 hour 4k Netflix = 18.8 Gig
50 hours of 4K Netflix = 940 gig
20 hours of online game play = 2 gig
8 hours of Skype = .5 Gig
16 hours of Spotify = 1 gig
1 digital game download from xbox per month = 60 Gig

I asked Suddenlink about this and was told that perhaps I needed a business account instead of a residential (apparently Xbox One owners are businesses not residential). I checked into this and the cost is outrageous. Had I know my house was only serviceable by Suddenlink when I bought it… I would not have bought it. HORRIBLE provider and you should do anything possible to avoid them.

They called about downloading a movie but gave an IP address that did not belong to anyone in our household. Upon reading the fine print, they change IP addresses constantly for customers at any point in time. This leads us to believe they are not only falsely accusing people of DMCA violations, but are snooping into the private photos, videos, and messages sent that have nothing to do with copyrights. It is a very awful feeling knowing someone is always watching over your shoulder even though you are using data that is bought and paid for (on a data cap, I might add).

Where to begin… data caps, blatant lies about download/​upload speed, horrible ‘robotic’ customer service, etc.
If you watch YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc. or play online games, this service is definitely not for you. I can’t watch a single YouTube clip or a TV Show without it buffering for 30 seconds, every 5 minutes.
Customer service is as expected with shady ISP companies like this. You get put on hold for hours, or if you use online support they give you the same old «We’re sorry, contact us at
» and it’ll take forever to get a reply.
Promised 200mbps, but more than 80% of the time, it dips below 5mbps, and don’t be surprised if it falls below 1mbps. Dail-​up back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s literally felt faster than the service they’re providing at Suddenlink today.
Avoid this company.

I recently moved from Pennsylvania where I enjoyed Verizon FIOS. This service included HD TV with DVR, crazy fast internet (both upload and download with no cap) and awesome phone quality. I had 6 HD cables boxes with every possible channel and my bill was under $ 250. I did my research when I moved to Pflugerville. SuddenLink was the only fibre provider in the neighborhood offering high speed fibre internet to my door. Time Warner appeared to be an option until I scheduled service. I was told SuddenLink had a monopoly in the area. I called SuddenLink to schedule installation-​the fastest speed available (300mbps down and 25 mpbs upload-​which still was nothing to get excited over), HD DVR, TiVO streaming and a phone number. Only one TV was connected. The scheduling process was confusing. I received email confirmations that did not match the service I scheduled. I was told it was a glitch in their system. An installer arrived and went to work wiring my bedroom for cable and the office for internet. My bedroom was no problem, but he struggled running the coax cable into my home office. The installer told me it ‘wasn’t possible.’ He had a bad attitude and was cocky. The installer left me with a stack of hardware in my bedroom and no phone service. I called a private cabling company. For $ 89 and less than one hour, he completed the cabling to my office and insisted it was an ‘easy’ installation. I moved the provided cable modem into the office and plugged in my phone (to the special cable modem). The heard a dial tone with static. That was never fixed. My internet speed was terrible. After spending an hour on the phone with support I was told for my speed, a different modem was required. Luckily there was an office nearby so I switched the modems in person to avoid waiting a week for service. I then learned after moving my modem to the office (where it should have been initially installed) I would need additional hardware to keep my cable service functioning. That needed to be installed by a professional. I was told an installer could be scheduled in approximately 7 days. During that time I realized I never learned how to use the TiVO streaming service. When I called support I was told to look for a small TiVo box-​it was never installed but I was being charged for it! I went to the local office thinking I could simply pickup a device. I was told none were in stock but I could call to schedule. The installer arrived with the additional hardware to fix my cable installation, but he could not find a TiVo streaming device. I called yet again-​I was told it would be installed 5 – 7 days later. When the installer came he knew nothing about the TiVo Steaming Service BUT he told me my iPad was ‘crap’ and knew nothing about them. He said he uses only Android. I was again left with technology that was not usable. I called TiVo directly. I was told the firmware was damaged but it would reboot and reload after 24 hours. As TiVo promised-​I was online and followed their online videos to setup the device. The installers were constantly a challenge. They appeared not to be qualified or trained. The phone personnel that I spoke with were extremely nice but did not know how do their job efficiently or effectively. I was often transferred to another agent or department to complete my request-​often transferred to the wrong team! I spoke with a lovely manager who attempted to find me the best price for services and apologized profusely for the troubles I experience. In the end my bill for the services purchased exceeded $ 250 monthly (fewer channels, slower internet WITH a cap, fewer TV’s connected). I also needed to spend $ 89 to cable my house properly. I also learned (through reading the fine print) my internet is capped at 500GBs per month. This was also never an issue with previous providers. After having SuddenLink service for more than two months I have cancelled my TV service (with TiVo streaming) and my phone service. I now used Hulu, Netflix, and iTunes. My bills are still quite high (compared to Verizon or other local providers), but as stated earlier SuddenLink has the fastest internet available in my subdivision. I can not wait until Google or a competitor breaks into this market. If you have a choice-​skip SuddenLink. If you must use SuddenLink like me, continue emailing Google, other providers and the township to ask they let other providers service our neighborhood!

This is by far the worst company ever. Your cable is terrible. They shows are always messing up and when you call they say it’s just that station well I guess all 125 channels have the same problem. You charge an arm and leg for service but provide suck ass service. Can’t wait till someone new comes in town then I will be out the door with you. Hope all the people who work for this company fall and break a damn bone!!!

I’ve had Suddenlink since moving to Pflugerville in December of 2012. While most of the time my internet service runs smoothly with no real issues, there are times when it will go down due to a service outage in my area, usually only for a few hours. Any time I have to call a technician out, it takes 2 or 3 days for anyone to arrive.
I’ve had to upgrade my service to the top tier plan so that I can get the highest available data cap (WHO HAS DATA CAPS ANYMORE???) of 350gb per month, for which I spend nearly $ 100 (and still occasionally go over). I do not have, and do not want, any other service that Suddenlink provides, yet I am regularly bombarded with emails, snail mail, and phone calls trying to solicit phone or cable. I DO NOT WANT THEM, SAM I AM.
I’m also sick of having my internet disabled for them suspecting that I or my family has illegally downloaded something when we haven’t. It requires me to call in to their customer support (which is truly the most aggravating system I’ve experienced, second only to calling in to TxTag) and protest, then I have to solemnly swear that I will do no bad thing ever again.
Seriously, get rid of data caps and charge a more reasonable fee, and then I’ll think about not kicking you to the curb at the first available opportunity, Suddenlink.

BEST CABLE COMPANY I’VE HAD IN 25 YEARS!
To be honest, I had never heard of them before. AT&T dropped the ball on having service ready for our new sub-​division and we were desperate for service. My wife works from home and we had no phone or internet. Not to mention we were all draining our data limits on our phone plans.
In comes Suddenlink. I saw a sales guy in his truck parked on my street and asked if he could help. Turned out to be the best question I ever asked.
Pricing is much cheaper than AT&T and less than half of what we were paying Time Warner Cable (by far the worst provider I had ever dealt with in the 25 years I have been paying for services).
No contracts to sign, you can add or drop services at anytime for no additional charge (like just having Showtime when Homeland comes back), they had our service up and running in less than a week.
The guy that came to install our service was a true professional. We are in a new neighborhood that isn’t on GPS or maps. He tried to call for directions but my ringer was off and I didn’t realize it. He actually took it upon himself to drive around to the three large new neighborhoods near us until he was able to pinpoint our house. This alone took him 45 minutes. He maintained a great attitude, installed all of our equipment promptly and walked me through all the equipment before leaving. He even spent an extra 30 minutes on the install helping me wire the modem to a more suitable location for me rather than installing it where they normally do.
Every person I have dealt with in the company has been extremely polite and helpful. The tv quality and internet speeds are the best I have had. Even better than Verizon Fios. Another added bonus is having TiVo again. I had forgotten how much more user friendly TiVo is than cable boxes. Even the wife and kids commented on how easy it is to use and navigate.
Their website is great and easy to use. I have used their online chat service 3 – 4 times and my issues were solved immediately each time.
They even split my bill separating out TV from phone and internet. My wife gets reimbursed and now we get the correct amount for the taxes, etc. For years we dealt with confusing bills and rounded numbers. Not anymore.
Many of our new neighbors have signed up also (all of whom were waiting for AT&T) and couldn’t be happier. We do know I couple that wound up using AT&T and their TV keeps going out and internet keeps dropping.
Thanks Suddenlink for coming through. Keep up the awesome customer service.
Do yourself a favor and forget the big name companies with poor service and over inflated charges.
