Scotts Lawn Service

I have used Scotts for several years and today finally cancelled my service. Thousands of dollars later and I officially have the worst lawn in the neighbourhood. My neigbours dont even use lawn services and have the greenest lawns. The nature and timing of Scotts treatments put so much stress on the lawn that it doesn’t stand a chance. The only things that survive are the chinch bugs and the weeds. Their treatments may work in Ohio, but not in Texas. I am going organic and looking to treat the soil as well as the grass. I’m so excited I could pee; but not on my lawn.

Scam! They have killed our grass after applying what they say was a treatment for grubs. We didn’t contract them for grub treatment, nor did they notify us before putting poison on our grass. Now our grass has stripes of deadness where they provided their «treatment». The manager denies this is possible, and refuses to replace our grass.
Do not waste your time or money with these crooks. It will cost us hundreds of dollars to replace the grass they have killed.

It’s been a few years since I used their service, but, judging from peer reviews, not much has changed about Scotts service. Or lack thereof. Let me explain.
I had been in my new home about three years before I put in a sprinkler system. A couple of years later, I decided an aeration of the yard was in order. I wanted to go with a name I could trust, so I called Scotts and scheduled the service.
The aeration service went uneventfully; no phone or cable lines were cut (as others have experienced) and my sprinkler system was perfectly functional. I never have been overjoyed at the specter of lawn work, although I have all the tools and supplies to do it, so I agreed to let Scotts take over the fertilizing work from me.
The manager of the franchise came out for the start-​up treatment. Now, you would think that a person in charge would be familiar with lawns, but he proceeded to describe my lawn of mixed St. Augustine and Bermuda as «in danger of being ruined». By what? [Cue Theme From Jaws] Why, the deadly Bermuda grass, of course!
Their treatments, by the way, as others have described it, are nothing more than a man walking the yard with a Scotts hand spreader and dispersing fertilizer agent. Yep, you’ve got it. No wheeled drop spreader, no wheeled broadcast spreader – you know, the kind, um, Scotts sells? Just a man wandering erratically and aimlessly throughout your yard pretending to scatter essentially the same stuff you can buy at Orange Box or Blue Box for about $ 20. Bonus S in a «Professional» bag is still just Bonus S; you just pay more for the «Professional» nomad spreading it.
Throughout the rest of that year, I chuckled as they suggested additional cost treatments. for all sorts of lawn maladies which my lawn didn’t have, including grub worms. Note that their «contract» appears to be a wrap-​around, full-​service plan, but it’s really just a foot in the door to sell more of their dubious and unnecessary services. It only covers the eight fertilizing visits at $ 75 a pop after the introductory visit at $ 29.95. They were really taken aback when I told them my existing pest control service would handle the grub worm treatment at no charge if they could prove I had grub worms. I don’t think they counted on having lawn pest control competition, my Unilocal friends.
I went a year with Scotts. My lawn didn’t look better; in fact, it looked worse, and drank more water than ever as opposed to when I applied Scotts product myself. I cut them loose from the contract, and they graciously relinquished servicing my property, so I did not experience any of the issues others have with termination.
Why did I write this review today after all this time? Well, once you’ve done business with Scotts, they are relentless about getting back into your wallet. I’ve had two mail brochures in as many weeks this year, extolling the virtues of their services, and shaming me for being a cheapskate by having discontinued their service. Well, to be honest, for $ 554.95 a year, I can probably get my current lawn service to do another aeration, buy fertilizer, do the job myself, and keep $ 400 in the bank to boot.
Forget these clowns. The only green you’ll ever see from Scotts will be leaving your wallet and heading in the direction of their bank account. And understand they really don’t know your lawn at all. They’ve basically got their heads up their grasses.

I had service with Scotts for over 3 years. I don’t know how many mistakes they made in the past, but the last time they were out, their person sprayed all my bushes (he was here to treat the grass), and he killed my bushes. I’ve contacted the company and no one contacts me regarding their service. They may have done this before, but because we’ve had no rain, it didn’t wash away their carelessness. This is a horrible company. Save your lawn DO NOT use Scotts Lawn Service!!!

This review speaks more to the overall company rather than just this location. Scotts is constantly sending out mailings, I’m assuming it is in an effort to increase business. Well, they just aren’t keeping up their end.
Recently we got yet another mailer from them. Since the yard is in bad shape, I gave them a call in order to get someone to come talk to me about my lawn. First of all, it is a 1 – 800 number and you get a national call center. That’s fine and dandy but it goes downhill from there. I get on the line with a bonafide sales person. Really? Don’t try to sell me. Next, they want to just give me a price over the phone and get my business. I told the guy that wasn’t good enough. I want you to treat MY lawn, come take a look at it and talk to me about it. He says okay, he’ll have someone call me within 48 hours of coming by to take a look. Well guess what, it has been 2 weeks since I called them and I haven’t heard jack-​squat since. This romance is over!
