Zac is amazing, and I don’t use that phrase lightly. We had a very complicated and potentially dangerous job with 9 tall redwoods within 3 feet of the house we just bought. We love redwoods, there are over 100 on the property, but who builds a house with widow-​makers raining on the roof? We interviewed a half dozen arborists. Zac’s bid was near the low end, and the most professional of the bunch. He did the job: on budget, on time, and cleaned up. Total satisfaction! Based on his performance, and that of his excellent crew, we’ll never go elsewhere for arborist services. And neither should you!

Maybe some of these reviewers had a bad day. Zak returned my call promptly, visited my home on time, gave me a good estimate, and set up an appointment for the following week. As I had 3 trees removed, 1 pruned, and stump and root removal, there was a crew of 7. They started a little after 7am and we’re done with everything, including clean up by 12:15. A very safe and efficient crew, all of them who know their jobs! I would HIGHLY recommend Zak’s company without hesitation.

My neighbor had a large willow tree removed. I watched these guys work for the better part of an hour roping down limbs and cleaning up/​chipping. They worked safely and efficiently and based on watching them work I would not hesitate to hire them to work on my trees.
Additionally, the tree they took out overhung my property and my kids play structure. They did a fabulous job not damaging anything and cleaning up the resulting tree mess.
TLDR: They are a good crew don’t hesitate to go with them.

I just completed a very successful redwood tree removal project in Petaluma with Zac and crew. The redwood had outgrown its location and was causing damage to the nearby residential building.
Zac was very prompt, thorough, and detailed in outlining the job required and then assisted me on the overall project budget so that I would be pleased when it was completed. He also worked closely with the City of Petaluma to facilitate the tree removal and helped remove a number of possible obstacles.
The job was completed in less time than estimated and extremely efficiently. Zac was my exclusive contact with SMA and helped coordinate the overall project with another contractor (concrete). All aspects of the job were preformed in a professional, cooperative, and expeditious manner. I would highly recommend SMA for your tree related projects.

Zac and his guys are incredible. Zac is extremely professional. He responded to my request promply, and made sure he got his crew to my house during our short window of availability. We had 2 MASSIVE 50 year old pines that needed to be removed. They arrived by 8am and the whole crew of about 8 guys stayed until 6 at night to get everything done (and Zac was onsite the entire time). The best part, when they left there was zero trace that they were ever there. In fact, the yard and driveway were cleaner than when they arrived. I got a few quotes and these these guys were the most competitive by far. We have one more big pine, and they will be getting that business when the time comes. If you need tree work in Sonoma or Marin, don’t waste time dealing with anyone besides Zac and Sonoma-​Marin Arborists.

We recently bought a house with a lot of trees in the backyard that had been neglected. Zac walked thru the yard and pointed out that one of our Birch trees had a beetle infestation and should be removed. All my other trees are healthy but needed to be trimmed for better growth. The next week his team showed up and went to work! Fast, efficient and very neat! My trees look awesome and I know that they are healthy and ready for winter.

As another reviewer noted, Zac and his team are difficult to reach and not very responsive.
We had to contact them several times to get the bid and they were not responsive to our questions after that. On top of this, Zac was prickly and abrasive about scheduling work even when the communication problems were mostly his and his company’s fault

I’m sure they’re great. I’m *sure*. However, Zac came out to inspect the work and mentioned he would write us a bid for the work. A voicemail later, as well as three weeks, there is still nothing. It is very difficult to reach anyone at the office. I will pass.

We used Sonoma-​Marin Arborists, even after a neighbor recommended ANOTHER local tree service. I went to Unilocal and found half good and half bad reviews for that company and decided to research Sonoma-​Marin after I saw one of their trucks on the road. The reviews were ALL 5-​star raves. Now I am going to make it unanimous! I called and spoke to Tomas and had a good feeling about him (and the company) when I made the appointment. Then Zac called the next day to say he was on his way. Well, talk about trust from the first handshake. We took him around the property and he made PERFECT notes on 13 stations/​areas telling us which needed immediate care (triage) and which just needed some TLC. We knew right then and there he was the right man for the job. The very next day he emailed his quote and we were very pleased that it wasn’t going to cost us an arm and a leg (a limb and a branch?). His 7 guys came a few days later and for the next 2 ½ days worked on the trees. And — SURPRISE! — the final bill was over $ 400 less than Zac’s original estimate! The only glitch (a minor frustration, granted) was trying to get SOMEBODY/​ANYBODY to return our calls to set up the work. It took a bit of patience AND WE WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THEY WORK ON THAT ISSUE. But when push came to shove, Sonoma-​Marin delivered the best service and we couldn’t be happier. At our recommendation, another neighbor called them out for their trees too! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Zac and his team were fantastic! I could not of been happier with my choice of tree removal company. It was very easy to set up an estimate and schedule a date that worked for both of us. The team arrived by 8am and worked straight through till the job was done at 4pm! The boys were very professional and personable, they had a tough job removing my 100ft+ pine tree with not a lot of space to work with and they did an amazing job. They cleaned up, left no mess and stacked most of the wood for me. I have and will continue to recommend Sonoma-​Marin Arborists, we will definitely be using them again in the future.

These guys were great. Zac’s guys were very personable and very professional. Here by 8 and gone by noon. The best part, you couldn’t even tell they were even here. I got a few quotes and these these guys were very reasonable and local. Unfortunately I don’t have any more trees that they’ll need to cut but when and if that time comes, they are getting my business. I’ve already referred them to someone who needs trees removed. We recently purchased several acres in Ross which were neglected over the years but had some beautiful old growth Oaks and Redwoods. Sonoma Marin Arborists selectively trimmed back the unwanted growth while accentuating the natural beauty on the property. Overall the trees on our property are healthier and the home is a safer place.
Zach also took the extra step in offering to recycle some of the planks from an 150 yr old Oak stump that had fallen on it’s own weight. We now have some gorgeous live edge planks from a tree harvested locally to use in our home design.
Zach was recommended to us by a well reputed and knowledgeable arborist who had written many of the guidelines for landscape management in Marin County. We are very pleased we had the opportunity to work with his team and we highly recommend.

Sonoma Marin Arborists were perfect in every way. They took out a very big old tree in a difficult location between two houses. Great job! Their bid was very fair, work was accomplished in a professional manner. The crew was efficient and cheerful. Job site was left in excellent shape when the job was done. I enjoyed seeing how Zac interacted with the crew, explaining his methods to the new guy — working right along side the experienced ones. First job they did for me. They’ll be my first call if I need more work. I recommend them highly.

Zac and his team are the absolute best.
He’s the hardest working guy I’ve ever met, and his quality standards are above mine. He gets things done fast, efficiently, reliably, and my husband and I even get video updates if we’re out of town (showing us the problem they had to repair).
He’s trustworthy, high integrity, and like I said – he’s the hardest working guy I ever met. Just had him out on a Saturday emergency, he told me to call on Sunday if I needed him.

Zac and his crew took out a two story tall tree from my backyard and cleaned up after themselves very efficiently (took about 30 mintues).
Zac is very friendly, courteous, and responsive. He said what he was going to do and got the job done. They also have a nice and a bit nerdy (in a very good way) website that I loved that has some green/​sustainability information.
I would highly recommend SMA to anyone in Petaluma and the surrounding areas.

They took down a massive Eucalyptus tree in my backyard, quickly, cleanly and affordably.
He also sell some redwood lumber that comes from trees he removes from residential property (so yes it’s a renewable source). I purchased a large quantity of his lumber for planter boxes. Excellent quality and excellent price, including delivery.
Need tree trimming? These are the people to call.
