The hardware store portion is great. 5 stars for that.
The salvage and scrap portion is ⁰⁄₅ stars. The prices are astronomical for junk. Everything is priced at most likely double what it cost new 50 years ago when it was shiny and working and it’s just rusted scrap now. A 50lb block pulley totally rusted for $ 250? It’s across the board. Won’t go back except to the hardware store portion

If you are an Engineer/​Tinkerer/​Inventor/​Fabricator. you need Maselli’s. They are essentially a local «McMaster-​Carr». Great resource.

Jim and his staff are amazing. The place is a gem. Don’t go to the big box stores. Stay local. They have a huge selection and the staff is the very best. They also have a huge yard filled with many unique items
I have been using them for art projects and the stuff they have nails it every time..

To preface, I’ve only been here once — but the experience was terrible enough that I will avoid this place at all costs in the future. When it became clear that I didn’t want to patronize this establishment, the employee started harassing me and using intimidation tactics.
My major complaint involves their «proud partner», The Petaluma Junk Company. I called Maselli & Sons and asked a very simple question — how much do you pay for Copper #1 scrap? The lady on the phone told me she could not answer that question, that I needed to bring the scrap to the location in order to get a price.
So, I brought the scrap to the junk yard and a seemingly friendly old man showed me where to unload it. After we weighed out the ~60 pounds of copper, the old man gave me a price. This is where it all went downhill. The price was extremely lowballed, less than half what I would have expected. I politely asked him if he was sure that was the right price and he immediately got defensive, saying, «Oh yeah that’s the right price. We give you cash right away. Other places give you a check and make you wait for two week.» Etc etc.
At this point I told the man, «Well, if that’s the case. I think I’ll go see if someone else will offer a higher price.»
Old Man: «What do you mean? You can’t back down now! Here’s the price list. You see! You should have called Maselli’s and asked them before you got here!»
Me: «Actually, I did call and they told me they didn’t know the prices. She told me I had to come here and find out. I’m sorry sir, I’m going to go somewhere else.»
Old Man: «They do have the prices! They have this same sheet here! You can’t back out now! You’ve wasted my time. I’ve got better sh*t to do than deal with you.»
Me: «I wish the lady would have told me the prices on the phone. It would have saved us both this time. I’m going to take my scrap and leave now.»
Old Man: «Yeah you better get your stuff and get out of here. I don’t wanna see you around! You better not come back either!»
This has never happened to me at any other establishment. It was shocking.

Wish I could like this place because its so close to me but I can’t. Very unorganized store! Bought a few plumbing parts that didnt have a price on them and the lady at the counter made me go back to find the price not once but three times. What the shit. Get your act together.

WAY OVER PRICED AND CRAZY OLD MAN IN SCRAP METAL YARD, BEWARE!!!
I have lived in Petaluma all my life, 40 years, and Im not sure where Maselli’s is getting all the good reviews. There is an old man in the scrap yard that is total !@%hole. This guy is a nightmare to deal with, grumpy old bastard that make you wish you had just got back in your car or truck and driven up to Homedepot. But I suspect most people are hoping to keep a nice little home town hardware store alive, too bad this is not a «Nice, Home Town Hardware Store» and the Prices are out of the world.

I was looking for a new chain saw recently, and had decided upon buying a Stihl, and these guys are the local dealer for Stihl products. I’d narrowed my selection down to 4 models, all in the $ 399-​$ 499 range. I asked the salesman for his suggestion and he steered me in the direction of the least expensive, yet longest running production model of the bunch, an MS 290. He explained to me that the other models were designed primarily in response to California’s ever tightening emissions laws, and hadn’t really proved themselves as well as this model. I’d already done my research at home regarding these saws, and come to a similar conclusion, but when I go into a business and am given a suggestion that I should buy the best value, and the most proven reliable product, rather than just spend the most money, that’s customer service! I’ve shopped here before a number of times, I’m sure I’ve spent over $ 2000 here in the 6 years I’ve lived here in town, I’ve found some really unique items here in there huge back salvage/​scrap/​parts yard. Some of the prices are a little high, then again some of there prices are ridiculously low, so it balances out! The simple fact that they sell bulk metal, surplus items, tools, fencing and damned near everything else one would need for maintaining a home or ranch (besides lumber) is fantastic. Great store, it’s a winner, and will continue to get my business

I love this place. They have anything you’d ever want at a hardware store, and that doesn’t even touch the (literally) acres of new and used steel and stuff in the back.

I like Maselli and Sons. Where else can you get 4″ schedule 80 PVC?
Seriously though, they’ve got a good selection of general hardware parts (though they specialize in plumbing). And they still hand write their receipts!
Customer service is excellent prices are probably a tad high, but they are less than 1 mile from my house, so I try and support them as much as I can.
