Danny’s Second Barber Shop

Excellent barbershop. Nice people, decent price and accommodating location.
I will surely return again.

I usually go to Raul’s on Brace but this new shop opened on rt 35 right by my house Danny’s barber shop so i thought i would try it out. Went there 3 times so far. The first time i went the owner cut my hair, he seemed very nice as i asked him about the place and he told me he just opened. he use to be on Newbrunswick av i think he said but wanted a new place. Good hair cut for the price «$ 2 more than Raul but it was convenient for me because i could walk here. 2^nd time i went in i waited a while not sure why but it took a bit of time to get seated. This time it was a different barber. I sat down and explained what i wanted don’t speak Spanish but he seemed to unstained what i wanted. The whole time i was getting a haircut he was on the phone or talking to the other people in the shop in Spanish so a little uncomfortable but i was fine with that. haircut was $ 12 and he did a nice job. I gave him $ 20 as i always do and he thanked me. So far the place was OK. This last time i came in i sat down and the owner acknowledged me as he sat in the chair talking to other people. I waited about ten minutes until another man walked in with his son. He started talking to the owner sitting in the barber chair and then proceeded to sit down for a hair cut. The other barber cutting hair motioned to me sitting and waiting and said something in Spanish i believe he was telling him i was next. It did not seem to phase him that i was next and continued with the other man. I got up and walked out and will never use this barber shop again. very rude of the owner to ignore me for someone he knows. Raul does a better job for less and is always friendly to everyone, again i don’t speak Spanish and when i go to Raul’s and sit down with a barber that only speaks Spanish he makes it a point to come over and explain what i want. Raul also greets everyone who walks through the door and always first come first serve no matter what. Danny’s Shop has no class in the way they treat customers.

So for those who know me I love straight razor shaves. When I get home from overseas I love getting a shave. I do it myself but nothing like having a nice close shave and I love trying new places. This time is it was Danny’s Second Barber Shop. I walk in with time on my hands and the place fits the outside profile. I expected to have the Spanish flare with the music and the bench full of guys waiting to get a shave of some kind. I found it strange that one guy was not busy and I was able to sit right down. I just thought he did not have anyone assigned to home and I could get this over and done with. I also thought that this guy would be the best was to judge this place. It would reflect the overall management of the place. I walk over to the guy and explain to him I wanted a straight razor shave and a cut. I see he does not understand English that well so I break out my Spanish and explain to him again I want a shave and a cut. He shakes his head as he understood and I sit down. I am gowned up and with the music in the background with the TV’s dialed in I am ready. I soon realize that my barber is on the phone and he starts cutting. Not with a straight razor and some nice warm shaving cream but an electric razor as he is chatting on his phone about what kind of a phone contract the person on the other end should be getting. I did not say a word and watch this show play out with me in the front row seat. Not once did he speak to me, not once did he ask me how I wanted my mustache and beard trimmed. Did not ask me my name, about my visit, had it been my fist time or even ask me if I had any preference of how I wanted my shave. He did not speak one word to me. Nothing, Spanish, English not one word! Have I said I am fluent in Spanish and spoke to him in both English and Spanish? Not some broken 8^th grade Spanish but full fledge Cuban unbroken kind of Spanish. I do have to say I was very surprised. Once it was all over and said, I asked him how much it was, paid him, tipped him well and when he asked me how it was, I explained to him he was on the phone the entire time he was cutting my hair, never asked me anything or even spoken to me. He did offer me back my money but I said I did not come here for free. I asked for the manager and they pointed to him. They did try and make it up but it was to late. They should have never had it get to this point. I will return to try some of the other guys because I think this place is worth it, just one guy who needs more training. I will update you all when I do return but for now my rating stands. Crazy Cubano Out.

i go here for a cut as often as i can, usually twice a month. always a great cut. plinio is my personal barber of choice. godo with fades, brooks, straight razor, etc. shop is clean and comfortable atmosphere. definitely helps if you speak spanish. couple tv’s, usually telemundo. also music always playing, typically latin music. waiting area can get cramped real easy, so try and stay away from peak times of the day unless you make an appointment. parking is also an issue. be prepared to walk a couple blocks or wait to find street parking.
