We stopped here for lunch based on a Unilocal review and were not disappointed. Sandy’s is long on atmosphere and effort, and if you’re looking for some good non-meat options it’s a great place to try. We had the grouper dinner with two sides, and the grouper was prepared well – grilled just enough that the meat was firm and full of moisture and flavor. My mixed vegetable side featured fresh zucchini, yellow squash and peppers. While I found the heat in the seasonings tasty, anyone sensitive to spicy food would benefit from a warning up front. The proprietor surprised us with a small basket of fresh beignets to start, and they were hot and fluffy. I would have saved them for desert, but there’s nothing like a fresh hot beignet and I didn’t want the opportunity to pass. Sandy’s also is an art gallery featuring largely African-American themed art with a strong folk influence. The prices for the food and the art are quite reasonable, and I’m told there’s live music there as well.
