I’ve opened my letter to you this way because in general I have a terrible memory. However, my memory can be clear-​as-​day when I have a situation that ends badly without my having a chance to explain myself. So while I’m not happy about your review, I am grateful it has given me the opportunity to at least reach out to you.
I know you believe I was trying to rip you off, but please let me explain my perspective to you this way:
As I’m sure you know (by virtue of your choice in ski jackets), there are many degrees in quality to things in life, such as parts for jewelry making and ski jackets. A $ 50 K-​mart ski jacket will not perform as well or last as long as a $ 800 Bogner, because they aren’t constructed as well or made of the same high quality materials. You certainly can ski in the Kmart jacket, but if you have the means to buy something that will protect you better from the cold, why wouldn’t you?
With jewelry parts, there are also ranges in gauges, and therefore ranges in prices.
With «threaded earring backs», I can buy them wholesale from $ 1.70 to $ 27.95 a piece. In the nearly 30 years we’ve been in business, we’ve probably made thousands of pairs of studs, and we’ve ALWAYS used better grade parts. In that nearly 30 years, I can’t recall anyone ever complaining that they lost a backing or a stud because the backing fell off.
If I wouldn’t use the cheap backs on the earrings I make and sell, why would it be logical for me to recommend them to someone who has already lost an earring back?
If you remember, I never actually quoted you an exact price. I said that gold was still high and they could cost «up to $ 20 each.» Before I gave you an exact price, I wanted to see which one fit best to the threads of your post.
As it turned out, what I would have recommended to you would have cost you about $ 15 each, which means that my wholesale cost would have been about $ 7.50 each.
If the jeweler who sold you the earrings charged you $ 10 with tax, then that meant the backs cost you $ 4.70 each. If that jeweler sold the backs to you at THEIR COST, (because he felt bad that you lost the one they originally sold you), then the backs were about half the guage of the ones I use in my studs. However, if he made the standard going retail profit on them (about 2x), then what he sold you could easily have been the lowest quality «Kmart» $ 1.70 (at his cost) backs.
Please understand that I was not trying to rip you off. I was trying to sell you a backing that you wouldn’t have the same problem with again. And as I didn’t sell you the earrings, there would be no logical reason I would have sold them to you at my cost. Personally though, if I HAD sold you the earrings and you lost the back, I would have GIVEN you a new one WITHOUT charge.
Please also understand that I am not some big corporate jeweler entity that could care less about bad reviews. It does matter to me. This is how I feed my family. Regardless; reviews or no, I have never cut corners just to be cheap, and I do my very best everyday for my customers.

My family has been coming here for years and I couldn’t recommend this jeweler enough! Not only do they treat you like family, they are so accommodating and patient and really listen to what you’re looking. I just wanted to take a moment to review a really nice experience I had here when I came in to sell my engagement ring. I written about two reviews in my life, but I think it’s worth doing again for this store.
In a short nutshell, I felt really good about selling my ring here. I had been to several places to price out the sale, and overall, it was this place that gave me the best price. It wasn’t just that though, it was that while working with Kenny (one of the owners), he took the time to review what the current prices of diamonds are selling for, and in turn, gave me what I considered to be a fair price (and about $ 500 more than the «we sell gold» rip-​off place on Route 23 south by the mini golf place, don’t ever go there).
Kenny was professional and kind and the best way I have to describe it is that I felt «good» about being there, like I knew I didn’t get ripped off and was working with a genuine person. Their store is also well kept.
All in all, two big thumbs up… great experience here.

Best in the business! My engagement ring prong had worn away and other jewelers were quoting 3x’s the price to fix. Kenny not only spent 2 weeks researching the best basket to replace the existing diamond, he provided me with a total price that was far less than everyone else. He really knows his diamonds and enjoys working with customers. I ended up buying my husband a new wedding band and again, was blown away at the price and gorgeous band he was able to provide based on a simple description. Thank you Boston Louis!

Boston Louis Jewelers has been a long time favorite of mine but after my last experience, I thought it only appropriate to write a review. I was shopping for my wedding ring and found a style that I liked online: an eternity bank with staggered diamonds. As I didn’t know the quality of the stones, I was a bit nervous to order online and shell out $ 5K for something I had no real way of measuring the quality of. I took a picture to Ken and he told me it would take a few weeks, but he could custom make it for me. We talked about price and he said he could match what I had found online so we moved forward. Well, a couple weeks later he called me in to try on the cast — it looked very strange, but fit. After I gave the go ahead on the size, the ring was cast and diamonds set. When I picked up the ring I could not have been more excited. It was spectacular and absolutely perfect! To top it all off, the price quoted to me originally ended up being a bit MORE than what he actually charged me. With how the ring turned out, I would have been happy to pay more. It was a flawless experience and I will certainly send my husband there for my push present! Haha!
