Rolling Rock Landscape

There are three primary reasons that I’m recommending Rolling Rock: First and foremost is the «wow factor» that all of our neighbors are continuously complimenting us on. Second was the time they spent iterating over the design of the project with me and my wife; attention to detail was awesome, culminating in a CAD diagram that made it very easy to visualize the outcome. Finally, there was nothing vague about their cost estimate; a detailed bill of materials was attached to every line item such that costs were made completely transparent. I interacted with three other vendors during project inception and none of them nailed the design or cost estimates like Rolling Rock. They provide a great value proposition when it comes to landscaping.

I contracted with Rolling Rock to do a major re-​landscaping of my backyard. They were courteous and great to work with. Both the designer, Karen, and the owners oversaw the job site every day. It was completed in a timely and professional manner. I am thrilled with my new backyard!

Not dependable at all! Up until a few weeks ago I’d been using Rolling Rock since ¹⁰⁄₂₀₁₃. We started with general landscape maintenance once a month with the intention of moving to twice a month once Summer came. Even though we were scheduled for monthly service they would never show up. 30 days would come and go, then 40 days, then 45 days. and nobody would show up, no phone call, no reason. I routinely had to text Don the owner to find out when he planned on having his guys show up. When the guys did actually show up the guy with the lawn mower would constantly run over my sprinkler heads and destroy them. I didn’t mind at first, it happens. I’d just go around replacing them. But after the 4^th time and twice on the same sprinkler? It was an obvious disregard for my property and how fast they could get the job done kind of mentality. The guys with the blowers would blow my welcome mat in to the bushes along with my shoes and not replace them. I’d find my shoes under the bushes and my welcome mat rolled up like a burrito. I text Don over the Summer and told him I thought I had an irrigation issue and that my bushes out front were dying. He text me back saying he’d have his guys install new drip heads — they never did. I personally went around to all of my plants and installed the new drippers myself. I text Don on July 1^st and asked him to personally come out to my property so I could address all of these issues with him in person. I also had some ideas for upgrading my landscaping. Don text me back and said he would send out his foreman to meet with me. So Wyatt his foreman shows up late to my property and I stand out front with him and start explaining to Wyatt the areas the team isn’t working on like my sage bushes out front. I then start discussing what I want done to the property for the upgrade. Wyatt, with clipboard and pen in hand takes no notes. After 20 mins of talking to him and telling him how I want to design the front I say to him «Are you gonna remember all that? You’re not taking any notes» and he says «I’ll write it all up later» — We get to the backyard and I start explaining what I want done in the back. After 15 more minutes and no notes being taken by Wyatt, he finally sits down and writes some things on a sheet of paper — two to three sentences and then pitches me a verbal quote off the cuff of $ 3,000 to $ 5,000 (A 67% difference in price from the base). I said OK, can you email me a quote with the details of the work I want done and he says sure no problem. Weeks pass. no quote from Wyatt, no phone call, no email from him. So I email Don on ⁷⁄₂₁ and say look. Your guy came here, took barely any notes, pitched me a verbal quote off the cuff and left promising me he’d email me a quote for the work I wanted done. Don ignores my email entirely. Come ⁸⁄₁₄ Don sends me an email telling me Rolling Rock is getting out of the yard maintenance business and focusing on design and installation (Despite the fact that I still have no quote from Wyatt or response from Don on the design and install I wanted back in July) — in his email he then proceeds to introduce me to EVO Landscapes and says they’ll be taking over maintenance of my property. Here we are and it’s ⁹⁄₉ — No response still from Don, nobody from EVO Landscape has showed up and my yard looks like crap. I’m now stuck shopping around for a competent landscaper to take over the complete redesign and maintenance of my property.
I would not under any circumstance recommend Rolling Rock Landscape to anyone looking for reliable service.
And to Don if you’re reading this: I gave you and your guys the benefit of the doubt and you left me completely hanging. So this review won’t be removed or changed. You had every chance to email, call, or text me but you chose not to.

Rolling Rock Landscape just did a beautiful BBQ area for us. We had been wanting to get rid of the grass in our backyard and put in a BBQ for some time, but I had a hard time finding a reliable landscape company that was licensed, bonded and insured. Finally, I came across Rolling Rock Landscape and gave them a call. Karen came out, looked at our space, and gave us her design ideas. She then emailed us a detailed proposal listing all of the estimated costs. We got a few other bids and then decided to go with Rolling Rock. That turned out to be a great decision! Rolling Rock turned our ugly, brown grass area into a beautiful pavered BBQ area and they did it all in just a week. They did such a great job! The travertine tile counters are just beautiful and the stone work on the BBQ is amazing. We were very pleased with the entire process. From our first meeting with Karen to the day the BBQ was finished, Rolling Rock made everything so easy and stress-​free for us. We are very glad we chose Rolling Rock and we are looking forward to enjoying our beautiful BBQ for years to come!

We were looking for a landscaping company to revamp our front yard landscape and add driveway and entrance pavers. The designer, Karen, was excellent to work with! She listened to what we wanted, gave great advice and revised the plan as needed. The owner Jim, was on site most days and kept things running very smoothly. The crew were on time, worked efficiently and everything went without a glitch. We will be using them for our backyard down the road and plan to refer them to friends and neighbors!

So bummed about this company! I was looking forward to working with them, but they never followed through. Had Karen come out and take a look at everything. She said shed get back to me within a week. That never happened. Two weeks later I called her she said it would be another week. One week after that I called her and she couldn’t even remember who I was. Never got even one call or email back after all of that! Clearly she never wanted my business and instead of just telling me, strung me along. I feel that I had some different ideas that she didn’t want to work with because it wasn’t in her comfort zone so that was that. Can’t believe a business like this would have such poor communication and turn down a $ 30,000 job out out lack of follow through.

I never thought it was possible to LOVE a landscaping company. Well here I am to take the time to tell everyone that I LOVED LOVED LOVED rolling rock! Owner Jim and project manager/​designer Karen are a dream team. I was so grateful to see Jim on site for the job every single day. Any questions/​issues I had, it was so nice to go directly to the source and get my question addressed. Both were always available via email/​text for any questions I had. Simply put… they work fast, efficient, very professional and do amazing installation. I’m still amazed at how fast they finished my yard which was a DISASTER before and it’s a dream come true. I have zero problems and couldn’t be happier. This is how all companies should be run. Thank you Rolling Rock!!!

Two years ago we moved to Peoria, AZ and needed help with landscaping. We discovered Rolling Rock Landscaping and hired the company for a first ‘clean-​up’ of our somewhat neglected property. The owner, Don Tistle, came and assisted us with advise and we hired the company for monthly maintenance. Ever since our first encounter Don and his crew have been outstanding in keeping the sprinkler system running, trimming and planting trees and shrubbery, giving advise about fertilisation pruning and much more. Don is always available to come and answer questions.
The price is right and the job they are doing is always impeccable and excellent. We give Rolling Rock Landscaping our highest recommendation as anyone who needs landscaping services will be pleased with their services and their professional expertise from planning, designing, remodeling to installation of patios, barbecues, fire pits, sod, lighting, masonry and installing sprinkler systems.

Rolling Rock Landscape came my way by reference of Thunderbird Pools & Spas who were installing my in ground pool (see also my review on Thunderbird). We met with Representative Karen a couple weeks after the pool process was underway. Karen has an amazing depth of plant knowledge, especially for the Phoenix valley climate. Her recommendations of not only what we might want to consider but the why we should consider such-​and-​such was a truly easy and fun experience, especially for my wife. She has what was essentially a library of choices on her iPad so while she may have had an idea we could also pick-​and-​choose from a variety of options.
Once the pool was complete Karen immediately scheduled a team that included owner James Perlow and four of the friendliest guys you would ever want to meet in Roman, Jeremy, Ceasar and Eric. These guys worked their tails off for 2-​days building and putting the finishing touches on our dream backyard. I got to know them a little bit too, which for me is all part of the experience. Nice guys and I wish them the best.
It’s important to mention that once Jim appeared on the scene you knew who was in charge. It was great to be able to speak with the owner who is a real hands-​on guy from toting wheel barrels to running the Bobcat to answering all my questions. It’s obvious why Thunderbird gives Rolling Rock Landscape the nod as a recommended partner with this great team of doers. I highly recommend Jim and his people to handle your landscaping needs if for no other reason than they are a family owned and run operation so you know that everything they do is staking their reputation on quality service.
