CEFCU is a full-service credit union offering savings, checking, ATM and online account access, low-cost loans, mortgages, and more.
History
Established in 1937.
Citizens Equity First Credit Union (CEFCU) was founded in 1937 to serve employees of Caterpillar. During the Great Depression, affordable loans were scarce, so a group of Caterpillar employees pooled their money together in a cigar box one day in the lunchroom. One member’s savings were loaned to another member, at an affordable rate. That tradition of savers helping borrowers (and vice-versa) continues to this day.
Today, CEFCU has nearly $ 5 billion in assets and serves the employees of more than 500 partner companies as one of America’s largest community-based credit unions, serving more than 290,000 members in 50 states and several foreign countries.
More than 75 years have passed since that cigar box. CEFCU offers a full range of financial products and services to help members thrive financially. That lunchroom table has been replaced with Member Centers and the Money Center 24® ATM Network. Through it all, CEFCU has remained a place where members just have it better.
