Tuffy Tire & Auto Service Center

Brought in the 2014 Odyssey for their oil change/​tire rotation special. Awesome customer service! They brought me into the bay to show me how I was leaking oil due to the last oil change (thanks Pensacola Honda…). They also showed me my brake rotors and described how they may be causing steering wheel vibrations (I had asked them to look at this). My only complaint was the added fees they tacked onto the advertised special. In all fairness, they alluded to these fees through several notes and the «out the door» price was comparable to any other shop for a oil change, tire rotation, and safety inspection. I would recommend this place!

The customer service at tuffy was phenomenal, they offered me quick and professional service and had me in and out the door in no time. Only bought my car to this place because I was new to the area and didn’t know any better. Tuffy’s charged me $ 943 to fix a broken Idler pulley bolt. At that time I didn’t know anything about cars. I was told it could take a couple of days to fix, that this was an uncommon occurrence, and there was a possibility that the car was unable to be fixed. Later that day I stopped by the shop with my dad (only about 2 hours after dropping it off) only to see that the work was already finished. I was essentially charged 470 $ per hour. After this I spoke with a few other mechanics and searched through online forums, only to find out that this is an extremely common issue and the parts for it are extremely cheap. Can’t believe I was taken for a complete fool.

Great service! Each time I went they immediately serviced my car. No waiting forever. My check engine light was on, found out I had a broken part. They were nice enough to try to look for a used part for me since it would costs less. Even though I wound up having to get a new part they constantly kept me informed. Julie and Brian were both great at customer service.

Attention Pensacola friends: NEVER trust Tuffy to fix your vehicle. Dealing with a NIGHTMARE of a problem thanks to their ignorance and sad excuse for customer service! We specifically told them to call us if the problem was originating from a specific area that we had already worked on. They IGNORED our warning, tore the car apart, and then called to tell us we can’t drive it out until they fix it. BEWARE: They WILL tear your car apart as much as possible in order to slap you with an enormous bill!!!

BEWARE! Tuffy on Your Wallet. Run While You Can! Doing business with Tuffy is like playing Russian roulette.
I know this review’s long, but you’ll learn a lot. I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Here’s what happened: Tuffy in Pensacola replaced the timing belt, timing belt kit, and water pump — only 7,000 miles ago. I thought they replaced the timing belt tensioner, but they didn’t. I had asked them to replace any part that could go bad before the next timing belt replacement (within reason of course), so I wouldn’t have to pay for labor again if something such as the water pump were to go bad in the near future. (The water pump in my car is inside the timing belt cover.)
So, only 7,000 miles later, my car starts one day — only to make a terrible noise somewhere in the front of the motor, and then quit running completely. Now living in Central Florida, I had my car towed to Tuffy in Clermont, only to be hit up with a $ 1,000 + bill, which, after going back and forth for a week, was lowered to around $ 750, and finally to about $ 550.00.
Something caused the timing belt (had a groove chewed into it), as well as the crankshaft sensor (half of it was chewed away completely), to get chewed up. Now the timing belt tensioner needs replacing because of a pin that got bent, as well as the timing belt kit (again), and a metal plate (not sure what it’s called) that’s all bent to hell. There are metal shavings, as well as pieces of plastic and rubber, inside the timing belt cover.
Tuffy claims that the crank sensor (a little plastic piece that’s bolted to the engine block with two hefty bolts, and is not a maintenance part) is the cause of all that damage, but every other mechanic I’ve spoken to (at least half a dozen) says that’s a bunch of B.S. — that something wasn’t done right to begin with — that either the crank cover wasn’t installed correctly (which is supposed to be a little tricky), a part wasn’t replaced that was supposed to have been replaced, or something just wasn’t done right.
No logical explanation has been provided by Tuffy as to what caused all that damage, which leaves faulty workmanship as the only explanation. I know quite a bit about automotive mechanics, and I know that putting blame on an innocent little sensor is hogwash, and having spoken to all those experts/​professionals from various departments only confirms that.
Long story short, Tuffy wouldn’t stand behind their work — namely Mike, the owner of Tuffy in Pensacola. I guess paying $ 700 every 7,000 miles to have a timing belt replaced is normal to him, but we all know a timing belt should last until the manufacturer’s recommended replacement mileage, which on my car is every 60,000 miles.
I have been a very loyal customer to Tuffy in Pensacola, having spent thousands of dollars on several vehicles over the past 2 ½ years, but now I won’t use them — or any other Tuffy location — ever again. I’m a reasonable person; if anyone out there can provide me with an explanation as to how paying for a timing belt job twice, after only 7,000 miles, is justifiable, or as to the cause of over $ 1,000 in damage to practically every component behind that timing belt cover, I’d like to hear it.
I spoke with Tuffy corporate, and they could care a less. The Tuffy corporate mission statement has proved to be a joke. Don’t mistake friendly service, a clean shop, and complementary beverages for genuine customer service, because when it comes down to it, they really don’t care about taking care of their customers, or standing behind their work — just getting you in and out, and taking your money — preying on UWF students especially.
In summary, unless you like paying for the same work twice (or more), or don’t mind paying $ 700 every 7,000 miles to have your timing belt replaced, I would highly recommend taking your vehicle to a mechanic that does the job right the first time, such as the dealership (someone who specializes in the make of your vehicle), or at least an honest mechanic who stands behind his or her work. Doesn’t exist, right? They do. They’re just rare, and I hope whoever’s reading this finds one.
