Mega-Bite Inshore Charters

Went out for a 4 hour mid morning/​early afternoon charter. Met at the public docks off Shorline in Gulf Breeze.
John has a new boat that he is very proud of, and it works nicely in the bay, but there is no cover at all so be prepared for some major sun and heat.
He does all the baiting, casting, etc and you get to sit back and watch from the front. We did all trolling, with the baits near the surface behind the boat. He asks you to watch the rods and let him know when they move.
We got several strikes, but only one small Spanish mackerel hooked and boated. Got the lines tangled a couple of times, but he was the only one handling all that, so it must have been the bananas we brought (we didn’t bring any).
Tried several spots with tons of fish jumping nearby and still only the one fish.
We then were headed to a different place to «finally catch some fish” — presumably the small sharks he mentioned the day before as being fun for the young boys to catch. On the way there, which also happened to be the same direction back, he gets a call on the cell. He brings us up to talk and informs us that he got a call from his buddy who happens to be fishing where we were headed, and he hasn’t caught anything in 2 hours, so why don’t we cut the day short. We said fine, no problem. We were out 2 hours which is all he charged for, instead of the 4 or so hours planned. He made sure to give the boys souvenirs as we walked out, which turned out to be brochures for his business.
John was a nice guy, who has evidently been fishing for 15 or so years. He said many times how bad he felt we didn’t catch more. Overall, He seemed a bit more concerned about his boat than his passengers which is really all we were.
