Dyar’s Diner

Boy these folks were nice to us. Their fried chicken was just as nice!!! thank you!!!

I try and stop by Dyars at least once a week for breakfast. It’s almost like eating at home. The servers are always friendly, the food comes fast and it’s consistently good. You can always find someone to talk with and the coffee is hot. If you stay too long you can get in the lunch line!

As always found this joint with Unilocal and was not disappointed. Went on Saturday morning so not crowded. Fried chicken was crispy fried on outside and moist inside. Macaroni and cheese was as good as I have ever had. Next trip down to this area will find me back here!

Nice! I get to be the very first to review this. My friend from the area gave me a heads-​up about Dyar’s. We are not free during weekdays, so he said that the only window to eat at this institution was Sunday mid-​morning.
Dyar’s was my first true cafeteria line meat and 3 in these parts. I expected a lot more, but most places just slop something down from the kitchen that you never get to look at.
It is a bit pricier than most, at $ 9 a plate, but I assure you that the quality of the grub is worth it. It will stick to your ribs and weigh you down for hours on end.
I went with a turkey and dressing plate, which is few and far between nowadays. No point in passing up a rare meal. The turkey was slightly dry, but the butter-​yellow gravy made up for it. The moist dressing was perfectly mealy and soft, but still scoopable.
The macaroni and cheese had a great crusty, but moist and chewable top. The black-​eyed peas still had a snap, and they were perfectly seaonsoned. The stewed tomatoes would have been my favorite, but they were barely lukewarm. They were sweet, and I have never had the reds more creamy and thick. Almost like a bread pudding… made of tomatoes.
Dyar’s is a must-​eat if you are the least bit into food, classic sites, or just road trips in general. Heck, even if you do not like any of the 3, just go for a meat and 3. Even if you are a vegetarian. Dyar’s is awesome.
