The Stevan Grebel Center for dance, located in Pelham, Alabama, is a leader in classical ballet training in the state. It is the home to The Alabama Youth Ballet Company, directed by Stevan and Deborah Grebel. Grebel Dance offers classes for ages 3 through adults, including ballet, pointe, jazz, modern and lyrical. Tap and musical theatre workshops are also offered.

Stevan and Deborah Grebel have been teaching dance in the Birmingham area consistently for 40 and 30 years. They invite you to visit The Stevan Grebel Center For Dance in Pelham. Stevan Grebel was trained by the foremost teacher of classical ballet in the world, Alexander Pushkin, at the Kirov Ballet in Russia, in the Vaganova method. No other syllabus develops the elegant long lines, high extensions, musicality, strength and crystal-clear style that is so representative of Vaganova technique. Moreover, Grebel has worked with great teachers, dancers and choreographers such as George Balanchine, Frederic Franklin, Leonide Massine, Edward Caton, Roland Petite, Rudolf Nureyev, Eric Bruhn, Rosella Hightower, Ludmilla Tcherina, Sonia Arova, Ivan Nagy„ Maurice Bejart, to name a few. Stevan was director of dance at UAB for 25 years. The Grebels are known as leaders in classical ballet training.

After his early training in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, with Margarita Debeljak, Smilja Moic, and Nina Kyrsanova (former ballerina at
the St. Petersburg Marinsky Theatre, now Leningrad’s Kirov, and member of the Anna Pavlova Company.) graduated from Government
Academy School of Dance, Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Entered Belgrade National Opera Ballet after graduating. As principal dancer, he
created and recreated roles in ballets: Romeo and Mercutio in «Romeo and Juliet,» the Mandarin in «The Miraculous Mandarin,» «Arioso»
Pas de Deux, Franz in «Coppelia,» Seigried in «Swan Lake,» «Capricio Espanol,» «Bolero,» «Chinese Story,» «La Rein des Illes» by Dmitri
Parlic (former principal dancer, ballet master and choreographer of the Belgrade National Ballet), Michel Fokine’s «Polovtsian Dances» from
«Prince Igor.» Was chosen for Albrecht in «Giselle» by Leonid Lavrowsky (then director and principal choreographer of Moscow’s Bolshoi
