Specialties
NECS provides enrichment classes for children that are engaging and experiential, with an emphasis on developing critical thinking skills. The classes and workshops provide children with the opportunity to build confidence, mastery, leadership skills and improve academic skills.
Classes include theatre, music, dance, visual arts, science, technology, engineering, architecture (STEM), health and wellness classes, leadership workshops for pre-teen, and parenting workshops.
History
Established in 2013.
NECS was founded in 2013 by Ridvan Foxhall. In 2006 she formed the Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) Peekskill Chapter, a non profit organization dedicated to «Building Character on Stage.» CTC uses theatre as a tool to foster critical thinking skills, confidence and a sense of community. For over 20 years Ridvan has taught, designed and implemented creative programs for toddlers to teens, and in recant years has provided numerous parent education workshops.
NECS came into existence in response to the growing dissatisfaction by parents and teachers of current educational standards and practices that focusses on tests with little emphasis on critical thinking and creativity. The issue being voiced by many parents we’ve encounter is how children are disengaged, stressed and not enjoying learning. NECS was created to fill that need and promote basic life skills and higher-level thinking among children.
