McDonald & Peacock Cider House

I love this place! Sue is great! She is so helpful and explains everything on the menu. Two thumbs up!

This is by far one of my favorite places in Peekskill to go for great food and nice company. The staff is friendly and welcoming. On a mission to try everything on the menu I found myself addicted to a few things that I wouldn’t normally order… the Aloo Tikki Chole and the Malai Kofta are on my repeat list… the Salmon Tikka & Vegetables and the Mango Chicken are also staples. Even though I am a meat-​eater, another plus is the gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options (much more than other restaurants in the area). The main bartender Sue makes you feel right at home, the way a good English pub should do… and is happy to give you a cider flight to sample. AND one little touch I love is actually getting a written list of which ciders you ordered. Most places sit the flight down, rattle off an order and walk away, leaving you to have to remember what you got — that sounds like work to me! A great addition to a cute, growing town.

I give this place two stars because I liked the look, it was a relaxing atmosphere, and the staff was friendly enough. They didn’t have oranges to make an Old Fashioned which was not an immediate deal breaker because they did have a chocolate stout on the menu which is something I have trouble finding on the strip. The food is just awful. Most cafeteria food is better then this food. It was just inedible.
If you want to enjoy a quick drink there is no reason not to hit this place up. If your hungry do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.

This is our second time eating dinner here. Both experiences were very good. Service was right on point, great choice of beer and cider, menu diverse and different. We tried the chicken tikki masala first time and cocunut chicken second and lamb stew. Appetizers… scotch egg. All delicious. Prices are fair and ambiance very nice.
We will be back.

There is a dearth of pleasant and hospitable people at restaurants and bars these days. M&P is welcoming and the people are affable and that’s a good thing. Unfortunately, these positive traits can’t overcompensate the shortcomings of execution in food and customer service.
The beer list is banal; consisting of the likes of Bass and Boddingtons (Stella=boring strange choice, IMO). The food menu is vast and all over the place. We chose a quiche-​like plate, which was accompanied by roasted potatoes and halved roasted Brussels sprouts. The meal was supposed to be served hot, yet our quiche was ice-​cold in the center. The sprouts were roasted fairly well and seasoned ok. The potatoes, which were described as «roasted» seemed accurate. Although, they tasted like they were roasted two days prior. Soggy…
The bartender sent the meal back to the kitchen to remedy the unsafe and unappealing temperature blunder. The plate was returned to us from the kitchen’s microwave. The microwave rendered the dish a sodden molten mess. It was disgusting and nauseating. The bartender asked us what was wrong with the plate which we barely touched. We clearly expressed our grievances and told her we were ready to go. She didn’t even offer to take the food off the bill.
There’s no reason for a restaurant to have a microwave in the kitchen. The item should have been heated on a sizzle platter in an oven. Secondly, their lack of customer service is glaring and the failure to make things right is why we will never go back.

Cute place… But sadly not a great meal. Ordered a glass of wine… Which was the cheapest, smallest pour I have ever received for a $ 12.00 glass of so so Pinot. Ordered Indian curry… Vindaloo that was inedible. It had a very odd, sour taste. The tikka masala was not bad though, not good, but not bad. Oh well, one more Peekskill restaraunt that has potential, but isn’t cutting it.

An impressive selection of ciders and gin, a great late night menu and one of the best steak sandwiches I have ever had! Highly recommend. I have been here many times with friends or my boyfriend and there has never been a disappointment.

Here you can get many things that are seldom found in bars these days:
1. Cider. Equal amounts of cider and beer at this establishment, and a knowledgeable staff to guide you though all of them. We got flights so that we could experience them all!
2. Friendly atmosphere. It has a hometown bar vibe without the seediness of a local dive. We sat at the bar and had genuinely great conversation with locals, which is so refreshing and rare.
3. The price was right. Two flights and several unsolicited free samples only cost us $ 22.00. Overall I would go back and recommend to others.

Great little place! Our bartender, Sue was amazing. Great service and hospitality. The ciders are amazing and I can’t wait to go back!

Warm, inviting, authentic-​feeling pub with a delicious menu. Authentic British hard ciders and local NY ciders to boot! Tons of delicious options for vegetarians and vegans, perfect location, great service. I loved the «Bombay Bangers and Mash» with vegetarian sausage. Will return often!

Nor Indian, let alone the strange fusion they are trying to aspire to.
The cider menu is fair. The beer menu is adequate, but the food is truly vile.
And since I am English I feel qualified to comment…
Mash potatoes. How hard is that? You boil potatoes, mash them with butter or milk and put them on a plate. What you don’t do is serve shredded potatoes that you boiled for a while and then mixed in a roux. Worse you ought to never, ever insist that’s how they serve them over there. It isn’t.
Salad. I know they are striving for the authentic British experience, so three leaves on a plate is probably pretty accurate, but when one of them is rotten and, to top it off a fly crawls out from under it, one has to wonder about the chef’s attention to detail. Or if he ever went anywhere east of Long Island.
Sausage. If those things they perpetrated were Irish sausage, then I have not only never been to Ireland, I don’t want to. They tasted like breakfast sausage with all the herbs removed. Quite the nastiest thing I’ve had in some while.
Toad in the hole. It’s made with sausage baked in a batter. Not sausage cooked in quiche filling. If you’ve ever had the real thing skip this. You’ll feel cheated.
I can go on. There’s no point. The food is neither authentic nor edible. Go for a cider. Go for a Sam Smiths, but don’t even think about eating there. Go across the road to the Irish place. Go down the road a couple of doors to Division street grill. Go round the corner to the teashop or to Birdsall house. Go pretty much ~anywhere~ but here to eat in Peekskill.

We were very excited to have an English pub open near us and were looking forward to trying it out. Although the staff is nice and beer/​cider is good, the food is extremely disappointing. Having lived in England for many years we know what English food should taste like, and unfortunately none of the items we chose were up to pare. From a pub calling themselves English, you would expect an accurate representation of pasties and sausage rolls, but what was put in front of us didn’t resemble either of those things. Too much uncooked, bland dough and definitely not crispy enough, with lackluster fillings. I’m glad we have an upcoming trip booked to the UK so we can make up for the underwhelming food we experienced today. They need to step up their food game and the place could be much more successful!

The best parallel to an authentic (but new) English pub outside of Manhattan! Excellent menu suited for those craving British/​US fare (Scottish Eggs, bangers or burgers) or those having vegetarian cravings (try the «red» sauce cauliflower). Although I’m not usually a beer or ale drinker I can’t resist the creammmmmy Bodington ale! Ah, they just recently added flights to the menu, so one can compare the beers and ciders (the staff can direct you, as well as Dennis the manager who always hovers nearby). We’ve been there about 5 times in the past 5 weeks!

As a native of he UK, my husband was expecting at least passable pub fare. What we got got instead was hospital food. Literally. We had to send back the «special» onion tart, and my roast beef special was shoe leather. The service was great and the selection of beer was fantastic, but between the canned green bean side and the canned gravy on top of the inedible «beef», we were utterly disappointed, Promising place but they need a new chef.

I will admit to not being at all familiar with the idea of a British Pub having Indian food… but I’m sold! A fantastic selection of ciders and delicious curry were perfect.
My friend ordered some kind of vegetable curry and the naan bread with dipping sauce– and when I saw we licked the bowls clean I’m only half kidding. I had the Cornish pasty and it was perfect to soak up some of the multitude of ciders I plowed through.
Also on an adorable street– for a summer afternoon away from the city you really can’t beat a table outdoors with a small street fair and an attentive server who kept the drinks and snacks flowing.
Will definitely be back!

Had to bump this place up a star. They seem to be coming into their own and stepping up their game. By nature, McDonald & Peacock is going to be a place that’s not for everybody, but if you’re in the target niche, they’ll do right by you.

Awful «Indian» food– if you can call it Indian. I’ve had mediocre Indian food before, but never this bad.
Chicken tikka masala, coconut chicken curry, and saag paneer– all without flavor or spice– abysmal sauces that were particularly bright and off in color. Texture was closer to soup than sauce– definitely not creamy.
Rice was over cooked and lumpy.
Naan was alright but honestly seemed like it was frozen store bought.
Ciders were good, $ 7.
Service was good.
But yeah– I would still never recommend it or go back. Not even to try their British food.
If you’re going to call yourselves McDonald & Peacock Cider House, maybe don’t try the whole Anglo Indian thing.

Awful. Just awful.
My husband and I like Irish pubs, so we were excited to try this place. Nice décor, lively crowd. But the food is truly the worst restaurant meal I’ve had in 10 years. My husband ordered chicken tikka, which was tasteless. I asked whether they had burgers, and they didn’t. So I tried an Indian dish that, according to the menu, had eggplant, tomato, and ginger. Sounds good, right? What I got was a plastic bowl full of a gloppy, creamy mush. I stirred through it, took one bite, and knew I couldn’t eat it.
I flagged the waitress and sent it back, ordering instead saag peneer — always a reliable Indian dish. She said she’d put in the order right away. My husband had already finished his meal, so I waited. And waited. Finally she came over to apologize and say that our order had been put to the back of line. Really? I cancelled the order, got out of there as fast as I could, and went to the corner pizza place, since by that time an hour had passed and I was hungry.
Meanwhile, the owner, who was lurking nearby, never came to our table to see what was wrong. I am always happy when new restaurants open in Peekskill, but I won’t be back.

Food menu was limited and not the best, though truly English-​Indian authentic. The food took a long time. They had a few ciders to choose from, some superior to other.

We stopped in this past Friday for dinner to give this newcomer to Peekskill a shot. I was excited to try the British pub food because I was practically raised on sausage rolls and Cornish pasties and there’s nowhere else locally that sells that type of food.
First, I love the décor. Very cozy and intimate with a friendly vibe. They have several ciders and beers on tap. I asked for a recommendation on a cider and was steered in the right direction by our waitress.
The menu is a bit sparse, but hopefully they will expand it in the near future. Currently, there are several appetizer-​sized plates and just a few dishes that can count as entrees. I would say all of the British food is an appetizer, and the entrees are Anglicized Indian food. We chose to share a samosa and a Cornish pasty, my husband got chicken tikka masala and I opted for coconut chicken curry. A note to the management – please teach your servers the correct pronunciation of «pasty» (it’s a short a as in «sat»).
The food took a long time coming out, and for some reason the pasty and samosa were brought with the entrees. Perhaps we weren’t clear that we wanted those as appetizers, though, so not a big problem. The entrees were good – coconut curry was a bit on the bland side, but the chicken tikka was excellent. Naan bread was nice and soft. The samosa was also quite tasty. The pasty, however, was very disappointing. First, it was tiny compared to what I’m used to. Second, I expected a flaky, browned crust and what we got was definitely undercooked. The crust was pale and doughy.
The menu only had rice pudding listed for dessert, so we skipped that. Hopefully in the future there will be some more options. I was really hoping for the bread and butter pudding that is listed on the restaurant’s website.
It was also tough to flag down our server for more drinks. The waitress explained that they were short staffed due to the bartender not showing, so maybe the service on that night was unusual. We will give this place another try in a few months when they’ve had a chance to work out the kinks. I’m hoping for an expanded menu (more entrees please, and maybe a Ploughman’s Lunch?) and a little more attention from the wait staff.
