World of Wonder Preschool

After having a bad experience in a Pearland daycare and visiting all daycares in our area, a friend recommended World of Wonders Preschool.
Very skeptical, about submitting my 2 ½ year old daughter to another experiment and with disbelieve that I would find a good fit for her I visited World of Wonders for the sole purpose of easing my mind and start looking for nannies.
In my tour of the school and my discussion with the director, Ms Lisa I was pleasantly surprised. Not only she answered all of my questions and heard my concerns but also gave me advise, introduced me to all the teachers and allow me to attend and witness a class. My daughter who was with me at the tour, started to engage with her teacher and the other kids right away and she wanted to stay even after we finished our tour.
So I decided to give it a try.
Their system of dropping off and picking up the kids, made the transition to a new environment very pleasant and stress free. Parents don’t have to get out of their cars, one teacher brings you the sign in sheet and another takes the kid out of the car and takes them to the playground (when weather allows it) where all kids ages 2 –5 play together and start their day without feeling abandoned. Same process at pick up time.
My daughter adjusted within the first week and now 3 months later she even wants to go to school on the weekends. She learns new songs every day, knows her abc’s and last week she came home counting to 12 and knowing the days of the week. I forgot to mention that 3 months ago when she started world of Wonder she did not speak a word of English as we are Greeks and only spoke Greek in the house. She brings home her art work and has developed friendships with the other kids in her class. She is taking the optional music class and now she sings and dances all day long. Being a relatively small school all teachers know all of the kids and engage with them in different activities. Kids move up classes at the end of the school year together so they stay with their friends throughout their toddler years and develop/​work their relationships. Parents also meet at the various events that World of Wonders preschool organizes and get the chance to also develop relationships with other parents and organize playdates, meetups, parties.
World of Wonders is a school with educated teachers that care and love their kids. They engage them, teach them, play, sing, dance with them, spent time to teach them right from wrong, try to understand them, hug them, hold them when they feel cranky and listen to them when they have something to say.
My daughter is the happiest when she goes to school and every time she talks about Ms Wendy, her teacher and the kids in her class, she smiles.
I consider myself lucky to have found World of Wonders and to have an open spot for my daughter. Planning to stay until kidder garden. It is truly a hidden gem in Pearland.

In March 2014, our family was planning a move from Los Angeles to Pearland. I was worried about choosing a preschool for our then 3-​year-​old son without the opportunity to tour, but I knew that getting into a routine immediately would help him adjust to all of the changes. World of Wonder (WoW) came recommended by a friend, and I am so glad we found it! Even during my initial conversation with the director, she was so helpful with everything from preschool issues to commuting routes and neighborhoods.
It’s true that the WoW buildings are nothing fancy from the outside, but the quality of education and the love of the teachers are what make WoW deserve even more than 5 stars! I was concerned that our son would regress with potty issues because of the stress from the move, but Ms. Susan and Ms. Lisa were so understanding and helpful. Within a few months, he was writing his name; he often brought home art projects, and his scissor skills improved tremendously! We started him in the optional music class, and he would sing me a new song afterwards. He quickly developed friendships with other students. At WoW, all of the children (from the 2-​year-​old tadpoles to the 5-​year-​old crocs and frogs) play on the playground together in the morning, which gives a great sense of community. All of the teachers know my son, and he knows all of them, which will certainly help ease the transition when he moves to the next class. It was a great fit.
Then came a hard decision — I wanted to spend more time working on my business at home. We decided to switch to a «school» that was closer and had longer hours. What a huge mistake! My son hated it, and despite what sounded great on paper, the new school couldn’t hold a candle to WoW. Children were given worksheets but no direction; writing wasn’t demonstrated — they were just expected to figure it out themselves! And the few times I stayed to observe, so much time was wasted.
After 3 weeks, I re-​enrolled at WoW and plan to stay until my son reaches kindergarten age. It is one of the best kept secrets in Pearland, but it is filling up more quickly each year. I can tell that it is a labor of love for everyone there, and that the shorter hours attract high-​quality teachers who can jam pack each day with educational material. My son has really thrived at WoW, and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Such wonderful caring teachers! My girls learned so much the one year they spent with Ms. Lisa, Ms. Amy and Ms. Susan. They were sent home every school day with work or crafts they had done during their time there. They made gifts for holidays such as Christmas, Valentine’s and Mother’s Day, all which took much effort and creativity from the teachers. My girls adored this school and WOW has set the bar high. Look no further, this is the place!

You’ll be surprised to venture just further down Cullen past Silver Lake to find this little school. Sure, it’s a set of trailers just adjacent to other residential trailers, but the school has been around for 5+ yrs. Most of the patrons have sent an older sibling thru their system with satisfying results. The kids come out of the highest level mastering Kindergarten even tho they «missed» a deadline or will end up repeating as mandated by a waste of taxpayer money… I digress.
Having worked in early education and coincidentally spending hundreds of hours in a language-​challenged classroom, tiered conferences, and the ARD process (nurturing my nephew) — I can honestly say I have a good appreciation for effective teaching and conducive classrooms. I’ve probably «seen it all»… horrible/​sloppy teachers, miracle workers, and the majority of the ones that try their best, given. It takes a lot to impress me, but WoW has really set the bar.
Call ahead and take a tour. The director will quickly point out WoW is not daycare or a «mothers day out» program. Your kid will not be there long, take naps, nor will they participate in any sort of religious exposure. You’ll also be saved the sales pitch too often forged at local private schools. Further, you spare the expense of uniforms or dress codes, sponsorships, supply fees, etc etc. And, I’ve never seen a child upset or a teacher out of line. Their methods of teaching and running a school are working to the children’s benefit. Even if you don’t always agree or take a sensitivity to constructive criticism, you’ll see how productive their system is.
My first only attended the older programs (referred to as Frogs and Crocs). His comprehension, pre-​reading skills, and basic arithmetic improved greatly within the first semester. In his second year at WoW, he is reading, writing, and learning beyond what his kindergarten comrades pursue. Certainly, I do my part at home, and we all think our kids are geniuses, but I know he has learned so much in his few hours there and has the creativity and maturation to enter grade school without slack.
Prices are a bit of a premium when you break down the hourly rate. But know that every day you pack their lunches and pick them up, they have spent a very productive day with all sorts of friends.
