History

Established in 2008.

White Gate Leather LLC is a family-run business, operated by John Miller and his sons. They have been involved in the leather industry for over 20 years.

John started out with his brother in 1992 in the equine strap line, where they worked with Tory Leather to make over 130 different products.

After 14 years of supplying horse tack and training items to the industry, the Miller family moved to Virginia in 2006, where they continue to work with leather.

They currently make a line of high quality full grain leather belts that are marketed online, through retail stores and trading posts.

These belts are made with carefully selected 9 – 10 oz. English Bridle leather. They are cut and finished by hand, and each step of the process is done with care and attention given to detail. You will notice the difference the first time you pick up a White Gate Leather belt.

Meet the Business Owner

John M.

Business Owner

John was born to Amish parents in western Pennsylvania in the small community of Atlantic. His father passed along the values and work ethics to his sons that are a part of the Amish culture. John grew up helping his dad on his sawmill and on the farm where they milked a dozen Holstein cows and shipped the milk in cans to a cheese factory in nearby Geauga County, Ohio.

John started working with leather in his brother’s shop with no knowledge of the trade. Soon he was running the big Adler harness sewing machine 6 – 8 hours a day. After working with his brother for 7 years, he purchased his own equipment and went in business for himself. Over the years as his sons grew up, they learned the trade and helped with the various products produced in the leather shop.

Today the family’s main product is a line of leather belts marketed through retail stores, trading posts and online.
