Carewell Urgent Care

Developed a very painful abscess. Went there on a Sunday morning. The wait was very reasonable and Dr. Rick Sullivan evaluated and treated my problem without cutting corners or rushing things. The treatment was ‘old school’ in a very good way and effective.
Will go there again, Recommended.

Super long wait without any real explain action. I saw 3 patients come and go yet not one else was admitted in 45 minutes. I get when times are busy but when the traffic is light and there is still this long of a wait it goes to show you they don’t know how to staff.
I came right as the office opened. Best advice, don’t walk in. Book your appointment ahead but still plan to wait an hour.

I cut my finger in an awkward place, making it difficult to stop the bleeding so I went there at 5:30 pm on a Sunday. I was in and out in 30 minutes, which was good. The doctor, however, seemed annoyed that I was even there. While he was bandaging my wound, he repeated that it was «overkill». Maybe so, but I could not stop the bleeding myself.
But, I would probably go back.

Wife made an appointment for 1 it has been 45 min over that time. This is outrageous that we have had to wait this long with an appointment. I can understand if we just walked in but we didn’t. Plus we checked in at 12:30. So we have been here for almost 2 hours. I hate walk in clinics. The people that work there are understaffed and don’t take their job 100% unlike a hospital.

I called at 10:30 am on a Sunday asking if they administer tetanus shots; yes they say; I arrive around 1PM to be told there is no nurse to administer and ‘didn’t I tell you that when you called?’, I’m asked. (I wanted to respond ‘why would I be here if you did’, but held my tongue.)
I then ask why a Dr. can’t administer, ‘they don’t do them.’; ‘why?’, I ask; ‘I don’t know they just don’t’; I ask ‘could you ask?’ Response ‘no they don’t do them.‘
This is an awesome alternative to an expensive ER visit!!! Not!!! How is someone supposed to save an insurance company (and themselves) money with care like that!
So it is now 7:15 PM. Because I sent a complaint through their website, I get a call from someone that says they are a VP. I’m offered a shot on Monday at no cost to me $ 35 savings woop! No thanks, I can see my primary on Monday. I went to them because it’s Sunday. Duh!!!
So technically I was refused care; is that legal???

I found CareWell to be a very good experience. From check in to check out, all very professional people. This facility; unlike Minute Clinic has the ability to do lab work and other tests onsite. I went in on a day that my doctor was out, for a simple illness and walked out with the correct diagnosis and prescription. They also follow up with a call three or four days afterwards to see how I was feeling, and to see if I had any questions. I would not hesitate to go there again.

One star and that’s a gift for past experiences. Just walked out of this factory with my sick child after being told they won’t see him unless I leave a credit card on file for billing. First of all– we have top of the line insurance, no deductible, a copay which I pay each time, our play pays quickly and at a high rate. Apparently, as I was told by the x ray tech at the desk that the medical reimbursement is low. So am I to assume they bill the differences with the «card on file». They refused to see a sick child unless I left a credit card on file, even after speaking with practice administrator and physician.

EXPENSIVE!!! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I came in with a cold and got charged as if I had a broken leg. They billed my insurance company for a 45-​minute visit with the Dr. I spent maybe 10 minutes with him. They claimed that there was more to it than that and it depended on how complex the visit was (prior medicalhistory they have to enter into the system — which was basically nothing in my case). How can a cold be complex?!? Can you imagine what they would think of stitches or a broken bone?!?
Their billing company is a third party in Quincy and they offered me a discount when I called to question it however when I tried to have someone look at it more closely the discount that was offered suddenly disappeared. The third party denies they made an offer to me because it is against the Carewell policy. But don’t worry even though they think that a cold justifies a «level 4» billing code they have a system that they put it through and that tells them exactly what should be billed so it is completely accurate (red flag). I can tell you first hand that this «system» they have is only out to make money for the doctors.
Carewell urgent care bill (including my insurance) — $ 200
Primary care bill (including my insurance) — $ 75
Take the extra 5 minutes and make an appointment with your primary. Your wallet and health will thank me!

Let me start off by saying I think this is a great place if you just need a quick prescription for a minor illness. It is fast and easy. However, I would highly recommend making an appointment with your primary care or going to an ER for anything more serious.
In my circumstance I only needed some blood work done and sent to a lab, and I had a horrible experience…
When I first arrived the nurse at the front desk was holding her baby (which was crying) and it seemed pretty unprofessional. I didn’t have to wait long once I was checked in, which was pretty nice. When the nurse took me back, it was clear that she was a student, seeing as she was having some difficulty weighing me and recording my height. This was no problem for me, because I am all for helping people learn, but later it became a problem.
The standard questioning a nurse always asked took a while, then I waited 10 minutes for the doctor to come see me (not a bad waiting time at all). The room I was in conveniently had a tv for me to watch, which was also nice. However, when the doctor came in he barely glanced at me and started watching the tv in my room as he introduced himself. His appearance didn’t exactly invoke confidence, but I told him why I had come in. While I explained my situation for a few minutes, he had seriously STILL not made eye contact with me… He was watching the news the entire time. I was sorta worried about my issue seeing as my lymph nodes were very swollen on one side of my neck, and he barely even took a look at them before ordering the nurse to run a few blood tests. Okay, this is what I came for anyway.
The head nurse came in with the student and asked the student to set up my tourniquet, but she was unable to do so. The head nurse stepped in and tied the knot and then prepared the 3 needles they would be using. I felt more confident in the head nurses care, but then she asked the student to draw my blood. I felt extremely uncomfortable at this point, seeing as she didn’t even know how to weigh me or tie the tourniquet. I pulled my arm away and asked the head nurse to please take over. At this point they both looked at me with disgruntled looks. The head nurse told me that the student had drawn blood before and that she knows what she is doing. I replied that I do not care (and that quite frankly I didn’t believe her due to her obvious lack of experience) I wanted the head nurse to do it. She said okay and drew my blood and sent me on my way.
At no point was I ever asked if it was okay to have a student perform my blood work, and when I said I felt uncomfortable with that, the nurse urged me to just let her try it. No thanks. I felt very uncomfortable with the entire process, and was shocked at the complete lack of professionalism from everyone, especially the doctor.
It seems that these places usually seek the doctors who are not very accomplished in their fields. otherwise they would be working private practice or for a nice hospital.
I will not be going back here for anything, and I would not recommend it to anyone unless, like I said before, you only need a quick prescription for a minor illness (the 2 stars is for that convenience only).

The Doctor is an older gentleman who stated that few woman aged 62(my age) have sex. What a crock! He made me feel old. asking if I was retired or working etc. I think he got off on the sex talk. Never go back there again.

So happy I found carewell. Called to see when they closed and the receptionist was very nice. Got in and it wasn’t too busy didn’t wait too long for the nurse to check me out and not too long after that the doctor came in. Everyone was so nice even though I was one of the last people there and I’m sure they all wanted to leave but I never felt rushed. All in all great experience and grateful that they were there for me because I know I would have suffered through the night to wait for my doctor on Monday morning. Thank you again!

This is a great and valuable resource in the community! I visited here last week arriving just before closing and the nurses and doctor were wonderful– efficient and did due diligence to a minor injury. They were so impressive I asked for a name and address to write a note. I also received a follow up call on the x-​ray. We are most fortunate to have them in the neighborhood. I highly recommend Carewell.

This place is a nightmare! Came in for a strep test after work and they billed me emergency hours! Save your money, wait for a regular doctor I am so disappointed they failed to tell me they would be charging my insurance for «extended care». In and out in 30 min. I would hate to see what would happen if I had bad insurance or something serious. Run far away.

I’m a huge fan of this place. I am in the process of switching primary care doctors and had a pretty acute issue going on.
I went here and only waited 5 minutes to get in. The nurse was pleasant and funny. The doc came in 5 minutes later. He was super nice, efficient and great to talk to. He sent me on to the ER because he thought I needed more testing.
They also did a follow up call today to see how I was and what the ER said.
I will def recommend people to go here.
