Pawtucket Credit Union

I have been with Pawtucket Credit Union for a little over a year now and have had a mixed experience. My boyfriend and I have a joint account and when I called today to ask a question, the woman was extremely rude. There has only been one person in the call center that was both nice and helpful. Most often when you call the agent is absolutely useless and treats you as though you are stupid for not knowing all the banking regulations and a huge inconvenience for calling. When I set up my checking account, branch manager (possibly assistant manager) at the Johnston branch input both my birthdate and email incorrectly so when I tried to set up online banking the system told me I did not have an account there. It took me nearly an hour on the phone to resolve that.
That said, the staff at both the Apponaug and Cranston locations are stellar. They are all super friendly, very helpful, and always smiling. I would stay with this CU if the call center staff were half as awesome and knowledgeable. You can ask questions in the branches and be treated with the same respect you treat the agent with.

Do not trust them with any bill pays, they have made late payments to my auto loan 5 out of 10 times and charged me with insufficient fees of 37.50 and also I had late fee charges on my loan that neither institution would reverse. So Im done they lost me as a customer and lost my home equity loan to a better institution. Highly do not recommend Pawtucket credit Union for any service…

If I could give 5 stars only to the very nice employees in my local branch I would — but this review is about the bank in general. First, the service at the drive up is extremely SLOOOWWWW. Also, the hours to reach a customer service representative are ridiculous — 9 – 6 M-​F and 9 – 12 Saturdays. Are you serious? If there is an issue on the weeknights or weekends you are stuck. It is 2014. We need to be able to contact the bank more than 3 hours on a Saturday and until at least 8:00 on a weeknight. Also their online banking site and mobile apps are fair. Nothing special. As stated earlier the nice branch employees have probably kept me with them, and it is a plus that it is conveniently located for me. If you want better access to your accounts after hours or if you tend to call regarding your accounts on the weekend (or on weeknights) I would look elsewhere.

I just want to give you my money. Seriously. That’s all I want to do. Why do you make it so hard? I really wanted to support a credit union… but now I’m realizing why banks are so big.
Tried to pay my bill online, said I had to setup an online account. Started to, then it told me I had to physically go to the branch to establish security. Annoyed since no bank or credit company has ever had to have me do this, but I do it.
I get there, give them the essential information, and leave.
Get a phone call that they forgot to have me sign the slip. I couldn’t make it back for another few days.
Finally do, information gets processed, go to finish account setup online.
I have my credit card ready to pay my bill (auto loan), but alas, they don’t take credit payments. You have to connect an external account. I do this. Still not done. They have to deposit a small amount in my account and I have to verify it. This can take (5 or more business days.) Well, my payment is due in a week so I don’t want to risk a late payment. So I call them up…
Sorry. They can’t take payments over the phone… unless they’re late. I have to come to a branch (pretty seething at this point.) I ask the women if they take all forms of payment at the branch, which they assured me they do.
Get to the branch, take out my card… and no. They can’t use it they need cash. Go to use their ATM. $ 3.00 fee.
That was last months payment, calmed down, and now I’m trying to make this months payment. I go online to verify that external account and now it’s saying there’s no eternal account to verify although they deposited those two deposits of a couple cents.
Tried to use their «help» option but they have a horrible constructed website.
STAY AWAY. TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I just switched my personal checking here because I moved closer and want to support a credit union. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many online tools and that it seemed fairly easy to start opening up an account online. There really are no step by step instructions for it so you kind of have to figure it out on your own and they don’t tell you your initial transfer has a hold for a few days so I’m glad I left enough money in my old account. Some frustrations but pleasant customer service so far.

Worst online banking I have ever used!

Worst customer service experience I’ve had in many years. I wrote my mortgage with PCU 7 years ago and had been really happy with them — but when I went to refinance through them in 2012, my experience has been entirely different. I got an inexperienced mortgage broker who made an appointment with me, took all my documentation, and said he’d have an answer in a about a day with rates. After THREE WEEKS of unreturned phone calls, I had to escalate to a manager who didn’t seem to care about my experience or have any visibility as to if any work had been done. This is an easy loan and I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. Would not recommend anyone do business with this institution.

I opened up a free checking account with PCU about a year ago. I do all of my banking with an out of state bank (far, far away) and was looking to add a local bank to the mix to deposit cash, etc.
After about a month I received a letter informing me that the free checking is no longer free. There is a $ 5 or something monthly fee. All of my banking is free with my other bank so I now had no incentive to move any business PCU’s way. In fact I was planning on closing my account.
Due to my debilitating laziness I never closed the account and just kind of forgot about it. Yesterday I received a letter in the mail stating that I overdrew my account and need to pay them money to bring it to a positive balance or else. I thought this was weird because I have never withdrawn any money from PCU. I just made an initial deposit a year ago. So basically they took all of my money and now are stating that I owe them!
Do not bank with these guys.

As far as banking goes this bank is way behind the time. i am a pretty good with finances and work f=very hard for everything to be accurate. There customer service is probably worse than going to the DMV, and direct deposit goes in 8 hours after your company deposits it. There customer service are only open m-​f 9 – 4:30 and Sat 9 – 11. again way behind its time.
