Dean’s List Academy Donation Center

I stopped by today and I thought it was a great find. All the fabric is $ 10/​yard. They also have a lot of clothes $ 2 each and a bunch of random flea market type things. It’s a huge open space with no AC so it’s hot as hell in there. But other then that it was great. I got some really nice pieces. I know I’ll be checking this place quiet often.

I get that this place is to teach people with Asberger’s and autism to work and function in society. That said, this place is just weird. The building itself is old (which is fine) and very poorly lit. Furniture and merchandise is just randomly set about. Some items are priced and some are not. Donated merchandise is semi-​organized but nothing in the «back» portion is priced; you have to ask about each item. The front is full of discontinued decorator fabric, still priced at $ 15 – 20 per yard. They don’t take plastic-​only cash or checks.

This place is a great find. What a selection! Furniture, clothing, toys & games, odds & ends, electronics, etc. I saw some really nice pieces that would easily sell at local Antique stores for quadruple the price, easy. They even have some vintage audio gear! The staff was super-​friendly. The wide range of goods means there’s something here for almost anyone. If I was trying to furnish an apartment on a shoe-​string budget; I’d just come here and buy Everything! The best part is, the proceeds go to a great cause. Dean’s List Academy is a newer non profit that works with young men and women on the autism spectrum; education, job training, life-​skills development, etc. There’s even a little café upstairs– very friendly folks in there, too.
Do yourself a favor and come check this place out.
