The place is a dive. The food is good I always stop in before or after work. Someone gave low stars because of cleanliness but it doesn’t bother me if there is a dirty table. The place gets busy during the day They stay open late which I like.

Being close to my home, this is the Mexican spot I’ve been to the most in my life. I was first introduced to the tasty world of Jilberto’s in high school when fellow students would bring carne asada fries back for lunch. My eyes had never seen french fries accompanied by such incredible ingredients(carne asada, cheese, sour cream, guacamole) and I was hooked after taking just one bite. My go-to order these days is the Nak Burrito: carne asada, pico de gallo, fries, cheese, beans, and guacamole. I truly feel this is one of the best burritos in all of San Diego! The breakfast burritos and beef chimichangas are also solid.

Carne Asada is soooo good, only have canned drinks but that’s fine, reasonably priced and friendly people

Breakfast burrito with refried beans is the best! Lots of meat, big burritos! Little hole in the wall worth the stop!

Really good food for a tiny place. I had the super nachos and it almost had too much meat, if that’s possible. Their rice and beans are yummy too

I was tempted to go here, as it was the only restaurant open in the area; however this was a huge mistake. I purchase 2NAK Burritos and patiently waited. After 50 minutes, I was disappointed to see two small burritos, no meet and wrapped as if it was badly stitched up. Next I went back to the cashier to return my order and get my refund. He examined the burritos and told me that he could only return my money for 1 burritos, that they had already made them and I was responsible for the mistake. This was insulting, blaming me for their mistake and only refunding me for one item. I would not recommend eating here, employees that treat customers awful deserve to be fired.

I was tempted to give this place three stars but I just couldn’t do it. The food was very good. We ordered the California burrito and two large tacos. The burrito was ok. The taco de pastor was a bit salty but still good. The carne asada taco was my favorite. The large tacos were HUGE and full of meat. We didn’t find any gristle in anything! We got the red salsa that looked chunkier and it was good. Where they lost points was in the cleanliness. The dining area was dirty. The more you look the more you realize how filthy everything is. The table we sat in had dried food on it as did a few other tables. There was trash in the corners of the floor and booths. There was food splattered on the walls and ceiling. The cob webs on the ceiling fans and windows were obvious signs of neglect. I always worry when a dining room in this filthy. I can only imagine the type of filth or neglect lurking in the kitchen, out of the customer’s sight. Considering that it wasn’t really busy and I saw a guy in the messy back room on his phone, they have plenty of time to clean and take down the old, dusty Christmas decorations. While they’re at it they should paint the walls and remove all the random push pins in the walls.

Surprisingly good for a hole-in-the-wall! Came here to grab a quick bite on the way home from Harrah’s and the food was surprisingly good. We got the fish tacos and the beef burrito. Both were loaded with meat, and not alot of rice or beans. Too much beans cause gas, so this is a very good thing! The prices were very reasonable, and the orders came out really fast. The girl in front taking orders was quick and efficient. There was an ancient tube TV in the shop, and so I watched some soup opera on there while eating. The place was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. Easy parking.

I’ve eaten here more than a couple times. It works, it’s good passable Mexican but if you’re in Escondido which is somewhat close you have way more better options. But because of the lack of good Mexican in the area it passes. It’s located next to a liquor store. They do have a decent free salsa bar. Happy eating!

We saw this place on the way to a concert at Pauma Casino last night and joked about trying out this hole in the wall place on the way back. Once the concert ended and we realized everything in the area was already closed, it was no longer a joke and it ended up being our only option to eat. I ended up getting their sausage, egg, potato, and cheese breakfast burrito(which is sold all day) and it definitely ranked up there as one of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve had a lot of breakfast burritos at numerous taco shops in san diego and phoenix but this one tops them all. My girlfriend got a bean and cheese burrito and was very satisfied as well. My only complaints are that there are no fountain drinks(have to buy a can) and they didn’t appear to have a restroom. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations and exceeded my high standards for taco shops and I will definitely be coming back if I’m ever in the area.

Jilberto’s is located right off the exit to Pauma Casino. They are priced well and the food was cooked fresh. The customer service was good and the place was clean. I ordered: 5 Rolled Tacos $ 4.95 The Salsa selection was spot on! I noticed they do catering and would be interested in the super large burrito on the wall looks pretty cool for a Super Bowl party, Etc. Not bad for a Mexican food spot if you are on your way out to the Casino!

When I find a new hole-in-the-wall and experience their flagship burrito, I start with a mental 5⁄5 and work my score down as flaws reveal. Upfront expensive, low quality, blandness, still hungry after, etc. Seems fair. Rarely, a diamond in the rough survives my assessment with a perfect 5⁄5 #SalsaPackets. This Steak, Egg & Cheese Burrito was such a diamond. Its almost dinner time as I type this and I’m still satisfied from this flawless breakfast. Jilberto’s is a must-try when you’re in the area, open early/late, and it begs a resounding question: Is there such a thing as a poor Native American culture inspired #burrito? Well, is there?

If you want to eat here they won’t answer the phone. Tried 5 – 6 times in 20 min. Then we get there and they tell us they will only serve rolled tacos and beef tacos…(No burritos, nachos, anythingAs we watch them serve burritos to others.. Come on we also called to make sure the number was correct while sitting inside. She ignored it

Indulged in a few beef tacos and not impressed. The beef had the texture of shredded jerky. Not too appetizing.

Pro — Call in available. Better food than the two each location. Indoor bathroom vs the jil at pala. Con — casino worker lunch crowd could be a challenge for a quick bite. Weird bathroom. Oh man, what could you say about this jil? Sure it is the only thing to eat for miles, but at least it is good Mexican food that doesn’t screw around daily specials… Cuz everything is good. If you are around and don’t want to venture to a casino for food, this is your place.

On our way up to Palomar Mountain for a weekend camping trip my hubby and I stopped for dinner here. I asked the cashier what her favorite taco was and she did not fail me — grilled chicken taco. I ordered one grilled chicken taco which turned out to be the size of a plate. Lots of grilled chicken, guac, pico de gallo, cheese, and a homemade corn tortilla. Delicious. Hubby got the 5 rolled tacos, which he tells me are the best he’s ever had, which for him is saying a lot. Definitely worth the stop when you on your way up the mountain or when you are leaving Pala. Delicious.

O.k. What do you expect from a place in the middle of nowhere? For the price the food is decent. Try the Nachos! Want to go for a drive to get some fresh air and get out of the casino for a bit? This is it. Large parking. Friendly employees. And best of all, everyone minds their biz… By the way great spot to munch after a couple of hours at Gems of Pala.
