History
Established in 1912.
Founded February 10, 1912, the Patterson Library was first located in the Old Las Palmas School (since torn down). From there it moved to the Del Puerto Hotel in 1912. The hotel burned down in 1918. Then it moved to the Plaza Building and afterwards to the Church of the Brethren. The community raised $ 8,000, supplemented by a $ 3,000 Carnegie Foundation grant, which enabled a new library to be built in 1921. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The present building on N. Salado housing the library, former justice court, and city council chambers was dedicated in May 1976. Federal revenue sharing funds paid for $ 258,814 in construction costs.
