Don’t quite understand what happened here. Nobody seems to understand either. We had a death in the family and I feel like things escalated the way they did because the symptoms were written off as being something that they were actually much more serious.
Decisions were made to bring our family here WITHOUT our knowledge or say. I do not think this place is run by caring or compassionate people. You are all clowns.

I came here to have an Implantable Cardioverter-​Defibrillator (ICD) put in. My experience during an earlier electrophysiology study was not great — it included a nice hour long conversation with a nurse about how little training they get and how no one ever asks for the opinion of the people on the floor — this as she was trying to figure out how to silence the alarm on a cardio monitor (yes, for an hour) that was new and she didn’t seem to like. I was also treated to a lovely discussion between two nurses of the bias in scheduling nurses, and a hilarious story of how management bought new stretchers that were too big to fit through the doors. But the surgeon, who I do like and trust, said it was the best place and assured me that things would be less chaotic this time.
It didn’t start well — before the admitting office would let me be admitted they wanted $ 2,100 up front for what they claimed was my coinsurance. I told them that I had met my out of pocket maximum and there would be no coinsurance, they didn’t want to hear it. So to get in the door I had to pay them up front, something I have never experienced in my life. The surgery went fine, but when I called my insurance the next day they said I had met my out of pocket maximum, the surgery would be covered at 100%, and I should demand a refund. Here I am 4 weeks later still trying to get that refund. I’ve been promised it, after my insurance pays, which takes a while when the hospital takes 3 week to submit the bill.
If you are going to charge over $ 100,000 for some minor surgery and a night in the hospital, is it really necessary to screw your patients for $ 6.00 to watch TV? Especially when that means having to go down the hall to a vending machine, buy a card, then come back and dial a number and enter the card info — except that the button for number 3 on the cheap phone in the room didn’t work, and it took half an hour to explain to a nurse what the problem was and get her to steal a phone from another room while the annoying loop encouraging you to buy a card to watch TV was playing incessantly. You really need to put your patients through that extra stress for $ 6.00?
The bed didn’t work properly (the function that is supposed to inflate and deflate chambers to prevent sores was non-​working), in fact pretty much everything seemed to be broken in one way or another (including the $ 6.00 TV that had no sound on the one channel I actually wanted to watch).
The food wasn’t bad, but the system used to order it required you to keep calling a number until you got through to place an order, rather than having you fill out an order form in advance.
The nurses were clueless in interesting ways. I asked one if I could have a cup of decaf, she said they had no coffee on the floor. I bet her that they did, we went to the nurse’s kitchen where they had hot water and some packets of Sanka in a drawer. She had never heard of it and seemed fascinated. When prepping for the OR one of the nurses told me that to remove the external catheter without pain and pulled hairs I should use a wet soapy cloth for a few minutes. The nurse who actually came to remove the catheter had never heard of such a thing, said she just pulled them off (ouch!). At least she let me do it myself.
All in all, I survived the experience, but will not be going back to Saint Joe’s. I should have left the moment they asked for cash up front. And this is a Catholic hospital?

I spent a full day and night next to my grandson in the PICU and everyone has been great. the nurses are right on top of things. they explain what they’re doing as they do it. they also made sure I was comfortable.

I was traveling on vacation in our RV when i had a excruciating back pain — sciatica nerve. my husband and other family members took me to St Joseph’s emergency room. I could not believe how quickly they attended to me, the staff from arriving to my departure were unbelievable. It was very clean, professional and had a welcoming staff. They eased my Pain quickly and after a few hours there they sent me on my way with prescriptions to return home to Miami. It was one of the best experiences in a hospital ever. It too was phenomenal, the Nurses and Dr. were very considerate/​sensitive to my pain. I wish Miami had hospitals like this-​one where everyone was kind and thoughtful of patients. Scheduling an outpatient appointment with the imaging department was a mission in itself. I didn’t receive a call to confirm the appointment the day before and when I called the day of the appointment I waited on hold for 10 minutes just to speak to someone and confirm the appointment time.
I arrived on time only to be directed to a paid parking lot. Registration was a nightmare and I heard the staff discussing a patient (saying her full name) — testing for clearance because she’s having a bone marrow transplant. Upon returning to the waiting room, I immediately knew who she was– the lady with the protective mask on her face. Nice job protecting her confidentiality staff!
I’m an hour into the scheduled appointment time and now I’m in another waiting area… waiting for the technician
I have absolutely no confidence in the test results due to lack of professionalism presented by the front line staff. I will never schedule an appointment here again and would urge anyone with a choice to choose a different facility.
Oh… Yes the staff were very pleasant but I prefer efficiency and consideration for my time any day of the week.

Dr. Tanuja Damani is frequently late and very cocky. She canceled my major surgery twice. The second time was the day before. This hospital employs incompetent nurses. They would rather spend the effort arguing than working. If you ask a question or advocate for yourself they become irate then try to intimidate you. Most of them have no clue what a HIPAA consent form is. I have been to this hospital on at least ten occasions and it was unclean every time.

I don’t live near Paterson, but I adore this hospital. My experiences there have been simply phenomenal. I delivered my son there in 2013 because he and I were considered high-​risk, and the antenatal care, NICU, L&D, and new baby unit nurses were all wonderful.
I also experienced an awful miscarriage with my second pregnancy, and after I was ignored in the first ER I went to for 2 hours, my husband and I went to St. Joe’s, where we again received the best care imaginable from beginning to end of an experience no one should ever have to have. With time and better fortune, we hope to be back to give birth to more children there.
Also, my obstetrician is a bad ass. I’m not giving you his name because it’s hard enough to get in to see him as it is. Pick one you like and have your babies here.

Hospital is run by residents.
NURSES: The good: The ICU is top notch as far as nurses. i assume theyre paid well. The bad: Im not sure what the nurse to patient ratio is in the main hospital but something has to be driving the bad attitudes here. Patient asked for cream for her sores and the nurse told her“i think were out!“
The doctors: Its difficult to tell who runs the show here though. Resident to dr. Ratio has to be really high. Also often times residents are not accompanied by doctors. Im all for doctors teaching residents but shouldnt the doctors be present for this teaching? Theres a wierd feeling of a headless organization with this hospital.
Residents: now for rhe good part. The residents. they are working their buts off and clearly being thrown in the fire. Good for them. They have enthusiasm. But they deserve more instruction and oversight.
Theyre known for having a great trauma center. If its an emergency, ur in the right place. If not STAY AWAY

Hands down the best emergency room and best staff! Well I guess the hospital in general is the best around tri state!

As politically incorrect as I might sound right now; considering this is a hospital in Paterson, it’s one of the best hospital’s I have visited. It’s very clean and the décor is very modern. The nurses are very courteous towards the patients. I haven’t been a patient here but I was visiting someone and saw the service for myself

Best hospital around. Much cleaner than Valley or Hackensack. I have been a patient in both. If I ever need a hospital in the future this is where I am going.

As a regional trauma center in an urban area St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center is one of the best. A true Magnet Hospital it maintains high level of standards. The new Critical Care Building is state of the art and the hospital is in the middle of a large expansion project.

Crowded.
Neglegent and unhelpful staff.
Long waiting hours for ER.
Irresponsible billing practices.
I regret that its the nearest hospital and i really wish they would do something to improve their system.
I would never suggest anyone goes there in case of a medical problem.
