This place is the bomb! The owner Harry is such a sweetie and super helpful! If you get this on groupon, make an appointment! They took us anyway but I felt bad. Also if you’re trying to find the entrance, it’s behind the shopping center with the carvel in it!

Used a Groupon on mothers day for myself, my mother (duh) and my brother. We have never shot bows before so first time for all. Place is a little difficult to find — Google will take you to the front of the building and parking lot. You can park there and walk around or you can drive down and make a two right hand turns to park in front of the entrance.
When we arrived Greg gave us a safety lesson and a quick how to for beginners. We were lucky that we were the only ones but it seems that Greg would be giving the same kind of hands on attention regardless of group size. Had an excellent time and are even debating picking it up as a hobby.

I recently received a compound bow as a christmas gift and couldn’t wait to use it. My boyfriend and I bought a Groupon for here once so we decided to go back there to use our bows.
Their attitudes towards people are not the greatest but they do know what they’re doing. They are a very busy place so I can understand how they can become overwhelmed. It seems that they are a little understaffed.
However, on the other note, 10 bucks to use the range for the day is a great price. If you look around on Long Island (there isn’t a lot), this place has the best prices. There’s always someone on the range to spot you and tell you what you are doing wrong if you are open to suggestions.
The place is in a basement so it does get quite cold down there. I always have to wear a sweatshirt.
The weekends especially Friday nights get very, very busy. So if you are looking for an experience where they can focus on you and give you more attention, you should go during the week.

Horrible owners. Acted terrible towards new customers. Tried to give them a ton of business and they coped an attitude. Told me it wasn’t worth their time. Definitely won’t be back and will be going to a shooting range instead. O/​10. Do not recommend.

During the summer I purchased a groupon for my daughter (9) and myself, we waited till the groupon had almost expired before we redeemed it, I had shot before many years ago at high school, but was rusty to say the least. The instructor was great, we shot for an hour or so, had a class of about 10 people, we were taught shooting safety, form and had fun. So much so that a couple of days later I bought bows for both my daughter and myself, I have been going back a few time per week, my daughter a little less often as she has many other activities. The staff are all great, very nice with my daughter when she take a break and walks around asking questions. Buying a bow includes a year of use of the range, we only pay for the paper targets and can go any time the range is open. I will renew my membership there for sure. The other archers range from beginners to expert hunters, everyone is friendly, helpful and free with useful advice on how to improve. I have been shooting olympic style but plan on getting a compound bow and will be training there before the next hunting season.

We were there one time years ago had no problem… was considering going back with the kids… so I always like to read the reviews… there are always mixed reviews for many. but there are not many owners that take time to read there online reviews and stands up and apologizes for bad experiences and offers free time… I give Smith Point a lot of credit, and can’t wait to bring the kids.

It’s a bummer to see all the people throwing knee jerk 1 star reviews here for such a great business. It seems spiteful and I don’t think people understand they’re really hurting the business with these reviews. You’ll notice they’re all Groupon related, ironically, these are people who probably went here once and will never return.
Here’s my experience… I went here from Staten Island for two days for a classroom course offered at this location. Just walking in, you can tell these guys are hardcore archery geeks. I haven’t seen a store this well stocked with everything archery. In the back they have a workshop with a fulltime tech. Both days of my classes I got my bow out to shoot at the lunch intermission, and for an hour or so at the end of the day, I had to drive back to NYC so I wanted to get some shooting in. Range fees were $ 10, targets $ 2. The first day the tech named Way identified an issue with my riser, fixed it for free. I gave him a tip in the tip box he didn’t ask for. He used a part he had on hand, and didn’t charge me. The second day I snapped a fletching off my arrow and the other tech Adam refletched the arrow for me, again, didn’t ask me for anything. There were people chatting at the table in front of the tech shop, just a good vibe.
I also had my peep replaced on a recommendation by Craig, I think he’s the manager. Nice older gent with a lot of archery and hunting years under his belt. He’s clearly a mentor for some of the younger shooters in the place, all the kids there were polite and enthused. The peep he recommended was perfect. They installed it for me, again, a courtesy for buying it there.
I wish there was a shop like this on or near staten island, these guys clearly live for this sport, and it kind of makes me a little sad to see the ultra negative reviews for a groupon thing not working out. My experience was professional, generous and knowledgeable. I’m considering bringing my daughter the 1.5 hours here just for lessons. I spoke with a female instructor and she was what I want for my daughter, tough, no nonsense and focused on their skills. This is a dangerous sport, if you watch a movie and want to get a bow in your hands understand, this is n’t a bowling alley where they serve cheese fries and popcorn. I assume it isn’t a wildly high profit business to be in. These are people that live for this sport, and if you go here, at least from my experience, you’ll be in good hands.
This is the kind of place you go in and there’s regulars hanging out just shooting the breeze talking shop. That’s one of the best signs of a good sports store, it’s a place people want to be at. I just wish they were closer to me!

Me and my girlfriend had a great time at Smith Point Archery. We were both first time shooters and Jim was great at showing us the ropes. He really took the time to teach us the correct technique and was patient with us while we learned. I would highly recommend this place.

There were 3 of us, w.groupon. Had a very good time. Jim gave solid instructions at the start and then was quite helpful throughout the session. Nice and smart gentleman. A great way to spend a few hours, especially on a bad weather day. Afterwards, there are many good restaurants you can go to in Patchogue. We picked Oar Bar and were not disappointed.

Needed something different and saw their deal on groupon and very glad we went. It was our first experience with a bow, the instructor went over the basics and range rules then off we were. Friendly guys and the instructor was a cool everyday guy who gave just enough instruction and enough space so you get your feet wet. Saw some bad reviews on here but don’t let them scare you off everyone has off days. We already have plans to go back and will let likely buy bows from them to take advantage of free shooting for a year with bow purchase they offer.

Got what we paid for with Groupon. We were three and after some difficulty finding the place, we had an enjoyable hour, starting off with a useful review of how to use the bows. Targets placed closer than in their main range so everyone had some great results. Lots of people but all happy and plenty of shooting done. Afterward, we enjoyed watching skilled archers in the main range next to their interesting store. It’s in a very spacious and well lit basement space, on back side of mall. Not fancy, but clean, safe and friendly. For all ages.

Had a Groupon for 2 people, 1 hr of range time. Purchased it for my boyfriend for his birthday. We went together with a friend and when we first got there we were VERY skeptical. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall. It’s just a door leading into a basement… But looks can be deceiving!
We were met inside by an elderly gentleman (wish I could remember his name) and he set us up at the range, and helped us learn how to aim. He was very sweet. There were two other people shooting while we were there, a father and son. It looked like the kid’s first time and the gentleman employee was really good with the kid, even putting up balloons for him to shoot at instead of just the target.
We had an 8pm appointment, and he let us stay until almost 9:30pm. We had a ton of fun and I’ve already purchased another groupon to go back!

This place is a hole in the ground, pretty literally. It is on the side of a shopping center, so it was not terribly easy to find. Then you walk in and you feel like you are in the wrong place, like you don’t belong there or that this was someone’s practical joke on you. You go down some old hallway and down some steps and you just see two painted steel doors. I figured I saw a sign so I must be in the right place so I opened the door, even though it was not apparent where I should go. So when I walked in first thing I see is a taxidermy bear and deer– ahhhh! Then I see a counter with two older gentlemen shooting the shit, ask them where I go with a groupon for shooting. They directed me and I had to wait for some more people to arrive and the lesson to start. Though my initial feeling of this place was a creepy/​fish out of water vibe (these are mostly good olé hunting boys and I am a animal loving liberal) that feeling disappeared over time. The old man giving the archery lessons was kind and generous giving hints and getting everyone excited about this new– found hobby, He answered any and ALL questions I had and was more than happy to do so. I could tell how excited he was to share his passion. This place gets four stars for the instruction and for the fact that after I was done I felt like I wanted to be Katniss Everdeen! So even though it is an odd and ugly hole in the ground, the people and their knowledge and passion make it a rare gem.

Don’t bother coming with a groupon for beginner classes, they overbooked, there was 2 people for every target and didn’t have their normal instructor but went on with it anyway. Very unsatisfactory, C&B Archery was much more beginner friendly.

Pricier than other places, and no instruction to be had. Staff was inattentive at the range. The range was overbooked by near double capacity causing us to switch back and forth in two groups effectively halving our range time.

Smith Point offers everything that an archer can want. Equipment at a fair price, expert service, maintenance & repair. You can get expert instruction and safety classes there. I started from scratch and enjoy successful hunting with bow & arrow now. Archery league is also held weekly for all to enjoy. The owner, Jeff works hard to assure complete satisfaction with the shop. This is not a sideline. It’s a dedicated biomass and you’ll be well served.
