After a long online research I finally found Contempo Space and was very impressed, I then went to visit their showroom and fell in love with their design… Gary was really nice and helpful, in no time he provided me with drawings and suggested ideas, 8 weeks later my dream came true! I highly recommend Contempo Space if you’re looking for quality and design to fit your space and meet your highest expectations! Thumbs up Contempo Space!

My wife and I live in a small Manhattan rental, and we wanted to completely redo our bedroom without spending a ton. In particular, we wanted a new bed with storage underneath, hanging closets on the sides, and storage above the bed. We spoke with at least five furniture makers in the city (TransForm, Gotham Cabinets, Center of Woodwork, etc.). While all of them could build something like what we wanted, they charged a ton! Some couldn’t build to exact dimensions we wanted; and others were horrible with communication. Finally, we found ContempoSpace. From the beginning, they (particularly our awesome main contact, Gary) stood out. Gary was very accommodating – explaining that they could build whatever we wanted. He always answered our calls. And the prices he gave were very fair. We visited their showroom in NJ, and we were very happy with what we saw. It was great to meet Gary in person, and their products looked great. The furniture isn’t incredibly high quality that you would pay tens of thousands for, but the quality is still great (much, much better than Ikea) and it will certainly last for many years (again, unlike Ikea which will break in a year or two). I was also comforted by the fact that Contempo has been around for decades and they have a guarantee for their products. We ordered the furniture, and a few weeks later, had it delivered and installed (which went very quick and smooth). We’ve had the new furniture for a few days now and are very happy with it. I would definitely use Contempo again.

Words can’t express how happy I am with my custom unit. Gary was very helpful in designing something that fits all my needs. Jerry was also a gem in helping me coordinate my delivery and they were very flexible so it was a great experience and would definitely recommend them if someone is looking for a great wall unit.

I am glad I did not read the reviews before I bought my wall unit here. I am amazed at the low reviews. My experience was five star. I went to the showroom and Gary could not have been more helpful. After we picked the unit we wanted I spoke with Gary and we customized some of it. The top bridge section is usually closed with doors. I need a place for my QE2 model so that was left opened and an additioal LED light was added. The delivery was excellent. The sections were wrapped very well and the three man crew got it together lickty split and took all the wrappings with them. The unit is very solid and seems like it would last decades. My 55″ TV looks great mounted into the unit. I also bought a matching dresser and that looks great. I would HIGHLY recommend Contempo Space.

What a pleasure doing business with Gary. We live in Brooklyn (where they deliver for no charge) and were sent several color samples for a small fee, refundable upon order.
We ordered a cleverly-​designed Davidson wall unit with a nice free standing desk «tucked in» over the storage arch, a small coordinating cube to our printer one, and a tv table that PERFECTLY matched our impossible-​to-​match-​until-​now cobalt blue-​front bedroom furniture. Everything was ready weeks before they/​we anticipated, delivery went smoothly, and quality seems excellent for the price. I can’t understand where the pccasopma; bad reviews on Unilocal come from. I’m not saying that some people couldn’t have had a bad experience or breakdown in communication, but that was the opposite of our experience.
Particularly when I look at my new Davidson Wall unit, I breathe a sigh of calmness. It has transformed our cluttered living space into one of serenity, organization, and functionality. Silly to imagine that furniture can make such a difference, but this easy purchase process and wonderful end result has never been matched in our prior furniture purchase experience.
So, if you are nervous about placing an order online or over the phone, don’t be. This is one very happy customer of Contempo Space, enjoying my new furniture in Brooklyn.

I absolutely satisfied with the recent delivery of the double closet wall I had ordered for my daughter. From the time of my ordering with ‘Gary’, through the confirmation and set-​up of the delivery date (s, through and including the delivery itself and the set-​up in the room with courteous and professional technicians, everything was excellent, and we are exceptionally pleased with the quality and appearance of our furniture order.

Absolutely, very happy with my new furniture. Thank you for all your patience & attention Gary, it is exactly how I requested, on measurement, color also how sturdy and durable materials you use. This will be my second furniture back in 2009″ that you made for me and more to come.

Finally, we purchased our very own home in downtown Jersey City, but with a toddler in tow we needed a creative solution to make the living room work for both adults and kids. Contempo’s entertainment unit turned out to be the perfect solution. From start to finish the customer service we received was incredible. We were able to design the perfect and attractive storage solution incorporating our 70 inch television, a small home office and plenty of deep drawers for toy storage.
Gary provided incredible customer service throughout the design and selection process. Our contractor confirmed that the Italian melamine they use is a quality product.
Delivery of the unit to Jersey City was timely and hassle-​free, however we did need to make some effort to level out the unit as our floors are uneven. This was important as otherwise the drawers and cabinets did not line up perfectly which ruins the whole look of this modern product. The Contempo installation folks stayed for an extra 20 minutes to install 6 shims across the wall unit.

I’m always reluctant to order items online and unseen, however, for a wardrobe that would be squirreled away in a guest room, I felt I really had nothing to lose and I consulted the Contempo Space web site. I found exactly what I was looking for and appreciated the ability to custom make the wardrobe to my specifications. I was given a delivery date that was honored as promised and what arrived was a wardrobe that far exceeded my expectations. The delivery men set up the unit in no time at all and now all I want to do is bring visitors up to the guest room if only to admire the beautiful construction and quality of the mirrored wardrobe I’m so proud to own. I was looking for a unique wide screen TV stand for our recently renovated family room. I found Contempo Space by googling «unique TV stands.» It only took minutes for me to find the absolutely perfect stand; the color choices were wonderful and chose a color that I thought would be perfect. It’s always a little uncomfortable to purchase furniture that you can’t physically see in person or touch. Five weeks later it was delivered. I live in the Carolinas and it was delivered from New Jersey. It was more than worth the wait. It is absolutely breathtaking. The exquisite design and workmanship are beautiful. It is worth every cent I paid and much more. Delivery was flawless and the drivers kept us informed of their schedule so that we could still enjoy the Memorial Day holiday while waiting for our product to be delivered. The two gentlemen were professional and very careful while in the house. I’m very pleased and wouldn’t hesitate to purchase a product again.

I purchased an armoire thinking it was a decent price and looked nice online but received the item and it is extremely flimsy, the white looks dirty, the panels are not flushed, and for $ 1,500 I could’ve gotten something A LOT nicer. When I called their customer service for help and spoke to the manager Jerry Singer, I was told there is nothing they would do to help me. And even if they were to help (after extensive inspection of my claim) I would have to pay the labor fees, shipping fees, restocking fees, and a couple of other fees which I imagine would amount to about the same price as the furniture piece itself. What a horrible company. This is my first review on Unilocal and it’s because I’ve never had such a terrible experience before. Do not use them.

Their site is professional, photos look great as do the floor samples when you visit the showroom. On top of that, Gary the salesguy seems like a great guy.
Post-​delivery impression is a polar opposite:
1. First about quality (my purchase was Alta Extra Tall, supposedly US-​made out of Italian materials).
a. Material: regular MDF, no different from what I saw in lumber yards. Paint/​veneer chips off easily.
b. Workmanship: flimsy — — pieces misaligned, which was blamed on the uneven floor, but in my book solid construction would not cause joints to come apart. Drawers loose and shaky — actually worse than my $ 30 Ikea drawers. When first delivered, mirror fronts were cut and glued unevenly, but those were thankfully replaced because I identified the issue during delivery. Drawers I was told were normal. But later on I saw the top edges of the doors are unpainted/​unveneered, so the raw MDF is visible from the front.
2. Post-​delivery support: what turned me off the most is when I followed up the door issue with an email about the loose drawers I was immediately offered a refund less $ 300 delivery fee. Now I dont know if one should consider it a good or a bad thing, but I would not order a huge wardrobe unless I have a need for one, so why would I just let is go at a $ 300 loss? Must also be noted that this email with refund offer was not very nice.
3. Lastly, upon purchase Gary the salesguy promised a matching 106“x30″ panel for (quoting): «$ 50 – 75, but no more than $ 100». Which post-​purchase turned into «I must have misunderstood, the best I can do is $ 200».
Verdict: Worst $ 1,679 I’ve ever spent.
PS Ironically, the only good review here was left before the product was even delivered.

My apologies in advance for my rudeness but I don’t think I could be nearly as rude as the SOB was that I spoke to on earlier the phone this morning. For months now I have been searching for the perfect furniture for my bedroom. I found the perfect wardrobe wall unit and I was willing to pay for whatever the cost of shipping… about 2 months ago I started to make my purchase online, it stated that I needed to call the 800 number to get an estimate for shipping. I knew this company was in NJ and I knew that shipping would be costly. I called and left a message (due to 3 hr time difference). I stated I live in California and wanted to know the cost of shipping. No return call. A week later I decided to go back on their website to do a Live Chat. I was able to connect to the Chat but no one responded on the other end. So I decided to type that I’m interested in making a purchase and want to know the shipping cost and left my email address. No email and no response. So 6 – 7 weeks later I started to wonder if they were still in business… I knew they had weather issues so today I called the 800 number again. I get an answer on the first ring and this is how our conversation went:
Worker: «contempo space…»
Me: «ohhh hello. is your company still in business?» (which was a stupid question because he did answer with the company name)
Worker: «aaaahhhhh ya… we’ve been open for 50 years.» (like DUHHHH)
Me: «okay well I was just wondering because I was waiting for a return call or an email and I never go a response.»
Worker: «response for what?»
Me: «Shipping cost. I had to call and get an estimate on the shipping cost»
Worker: «to where? what’s your name?»
Me: «it’s joey»
Worker: «well you emailed me your email wrong. You had gmial and it’s gmail. I just resent it and you should have it now»
Me: «ummm I don’t have a gmail account. It’s not…» (he cut me off)
Worker: «what do you need»
Me: «well I called a few months ago and never received a return call. I just wanted to know how much shipping is to California»
Worker: «we don’t ship to California»
Me: «oh okay. it would…» (he cut me off)
Worker: «also during the snow storms we were…» (I cut him off)
Me: «I called and wanted to LIVE chat with someone way before the storms hit. It would have just been nice to have someone get back to me that’s all»
Worker: «we don’t ship to California»
Me: «Thank you for that information» (and hung up)
My reason to want to purchase from this company is because I can’t find a ward robe wall unit like what they make and also it’s AMERICAN MADE and I support that. But after that ordeal, he was an AMERICAN MADE JERK. People get better customer service from outsourced companies. He never ever apologized and kept finding excuses to why I never received a call back.
One more thing… I don’t Unilocal and have never Unilocaled before. I registered on Unilocal just to voice my opinion about this company because they truly disappointed me.

Save your money for an honest, trustworthy company.
Very long story short, my husband and I saved for a year to purchase an entertainment center to be delivered to Chicago. We wanted to support an American company and get a quality piece. Three months after our order, it was delivered. During the delivery, the driver was negligent and hit a water pipe in our condo’s building. The driver then dropped off our piece in our unit and left angry.
We were told over the phone that they would handle the damage. They then spent months denying liability. They took every possible angle to avoid filing an insurance claim, therefore sticking my husband and I with a $ 3,000 bill! They claimed that our up to code building had misleading signage, but there have been no other complaints on this matter and hundreds of deliveries.
The product we ordered does not hold up to its price. It looks lovely but after a few months, the edges of the cabinets show aging. The piece also does not have the durability you’d expect for the cost. Many of our friends assume we purchased it at IKEA because it is something you could find there.
Save yourself the stress and find a quality business.

We needed some storage solutions that will not be prohibitively expensive: A wardrobe closet, a bench with drawers and a mud room unit. We live in Manhattan. Since their standard products did not exactly fit our needs, we schlepped over there on a summer weekend (after setting up and appointment) and found a very capable salesperson (Gary) that helped us throught the various options and combination. Over the following week, they sent us the diagrams that we were asked to sign off on electronically. We have made a couple of changes since but Gary was always patience and professional. We have not received the product yet so no final rating — but so far the experience has been very good.

I ordered a wardrobe. It is absolutely beautiful, well made and just what I wanted for a price I could keep in my budget. Good quality. The workmen were courteous and neat. The only dissatisfaction comes from the delivery timing. I would have like to have known that my piece wouldn’t be delivered until they had enough stuff to make it worthwhile to come out. When the delivery was scheduled, the truck broke down and they couldn’t come out on that day. Which was an issue because we were going on vacation. The delivery couldn’t be rescheduled for 4 weeks. So all in all, I waited from April, when I placed my order, until July when it was finally installed. There was no 6 – 8 weeks from the time the order was placed. I will probably use this company again if needed. The work was quality, but I will remain skeptical of the delivery times.
